I have seen toxicity, how ever what I have seen in the last few months is a MASSIVE increase, be it new people from other games or new people from wow or just new people in general. Wow also is nothing but toxic players at this point.
While I agree that there has been an increase in toxicity as of late. I know from experience that this isn't the worst toxic period in the game. That credit has to go to the Beta+Launch period of 2.0 which I took part in. There was tons of players ingame trying to convince the majority of the players there that the product was bad and that WoW was the only game to play. There was also tons of bashing on other players and a few other things as well ingame that I will not go over. But things have toned down drastically since those times though but you're starting to see an increase in this type of toxic behavior ingame outside of the "wow is better" part due to the poor reception the WoW in its current form and many players from that game are flocking over to this game due to how close it resembles what they've played for 10+ years
I think it's more to do with how the game was designed. Vanilla WoW heavily revolved around killing other players in the open world, which only changed recently in about 2019, and is a system that quite obviously leads to a huge amount of toxicity. Like for example getting a huge squad of players and camping the dungeon entrance to deny entry to anyone of the other faction.
It's why New World completely changed their game because they recognised that sort of PvP "often led to solo or group griefing scenarios that created a toxic environment for many players. This behaviour was not shown by all PvP players, but enough to cause significant issues." Yeah well WoW had that in their game for 15 years.
I don't think FF14 players have issue with WoW refugees.
What is unacceptable is where these refugees attempting to turn FF14 into WoW; the main reason they end up as refugee to begin with
I started playing around hw launch and i played wow before that, but by now i think I'm no longer a wow refugee esp since i have absolutely no intention of ever going back. But, yeah people don't want to see ff14 turn into wow. Of course those idiots think wow and overated are becoming less toxic because of computer algorithms no you dumb ^&%$# its less toxic cause your losing players.
For some people not playing WOW is a kind of nobility title.
But a majority of people who feel comfortable with this idea, have played WOW.
Let's be more hypocritical.
Kinda funny. The real toxicity is trying to pin everything from valid criticism and gameplay suggestions to attitudes and approaches on "WoW refugees." As if playing a game somehow taints someone's soul. As if you can't be a FFXIV player if you've played another game. Instead, being "x player that plays FFXIV." That sort of generalization breeds nothing but negativity and contempt, which is clearly seen in this thread.
Do suppose it'd be hard for some of the people here to accept that they have their own brand of toxicity that they're peddling though. Asking someone to not afk for half an instance is one thing, but asking someone to acknowledge their unhealthy venting of personal bias to cover up the negativity that exists in FFXIV? Now that's a doozy. As I recall, there are enough instances of truly toxic behavior, such as doxing and death threats, that I need more than 2 hands to count them. What of those? Especially the ones before the supposed influx of WoW players?
Wonder what would happen if the convenient scapegoat of WoW was removed? Wonder who would be to blame. Guess we'll see, because a new expansion should draw those "refugees" away, right?
Looking forward to the future toxicity people spread in this thread, and in game, while trying to claim "it's not us, it's them!" while in this pose:

Personally, you can earn great experience from coming from other MMO's especially with tropes from a similar role system such as WOW.
The only issue I have is when its like "we need a druid/shaman/warlock/necromancer/deathknight in this game, because WOW does"
At that point, I go "No, this is a Final Fantasy, they don't exist"
I wont complain if they are additions, in this game universe, but even GNB is spreading the franchise a bit, but believable. Point is the franchise has a long history, and this game collects/attracts many people who are either new to mmo's but love the classic FF jobs/lore/nostalgia. as well as people who pick this up as "another mmo that got good reviews" There are people that play this game for numerous various reasons, but i guess the best description of people who compare this game to WoW and ask for WoW features, and the die hard fanatics of the series,is that they both are "super fans" in their regard. It doesnt mean either side is right or wrong, but they're both obviously rooting for a team. metaphorically
This can sound totally shallow, after reading it over, but i cant really change the wording to feel better, its just something I noticed. Obviously Im a fan of the franchise, so I will definitely butt heads with people who just think its another mmo that got good reciews. ButI understand they have insight i might not have, and can provide incredible ideas especialliy on these forums to how previous or other develepers/desogners fixed or avoided issues we have or face with this game entirely/ Tp those outsiders, thank you, for bringing a new perspective into the fold some of us wouldnt even consider.
I think they don't want WOW players to come over, start complaining en masse and the devs accidently change things to suit the tastes of WOW players and alienate the FF14 lovers. I think the current dev team will not make this mistake
