I reallllly hope there will be male viera... it's not a good idea to put them behind a gender lock when you have so many people that want to play the males. Stop coming up with BS lore stating "oh uh they only mate like once every like blue moon so lol males dont exist". That is so lazy and gross and pandering to this weird male fantasy of overly sexualized bunny ladies. :/
not how SE do it. they added 0 in 4.x no race or face :)
Honestly I feel this is sexist, it took us forever to get male bunny outfits because they said none of the male devs would touch it and they had to get the female devs to do it. I would hope that is not the case with male viera but considering the females are all skimpily clad females .......... well *shrugs*
I would be very disappointed if the Viera were indeed female only. I was very much looking forward to running around as a cute bunny boy. :/
My experience with this game has taught me to never assume we're getting more than exactly what is shown. I'm inclined to think Viera is female only and we may be getting a male only race revealed at next fanfest.
I hope I'm wrong. I'm not personally interested in Viera but between this and BLU being limited I'm very disappointed in SE. =/
If they don't give us male Viera, I might seriously quit this game. Not because I must play one (I do want to though) but because I don't want to support a company that would do something as disgusting. And no, I don't want a male only race either. If it's some kind of lion race? How about NO! We have felines already!
I hate that I'm going to sound like some kind of SJW here but I'm so sick of this pandering to straight men, with waifus everywhere. Even bosses are mainly made out of waifus. If they're male they usually look like ass, barely human if at all.
I'm hoping to be able to play the male Viera, but I also wouldn't mind a new male only race if they are good looking, even though I don't like the idea of gender locking things.
What confuses me is why would SE not announce both together? I can understand models not being ready in time, and I can understand not having footage of in-the-works projects and stuff. What I don't understand is the lack of final concept art. The timeline is 5 months, so at least a final concept art ready is necessary to even know what you're going to be working on. It doesn't matter if it's a male viera or another race entirely, not showing a concept or even hinting at it puzzles me.
It does not make sense to me because pre-ordering is going to happen very very soon and this weekend is the perfect opportunity to spike sales a bit up. If anything announcing the males first and leaving the females last would create a higher hype than the other way around, considering the majority of people preffer to play a female character.
So they learned nothing from when Roe's and Cat girls were genderlocked? Wow.
Well, when they made this game (1.0) there were no catbois, femroes, or female Highlanders. That was one of the first things they decided to fix when they blew up 1.0. Gender locking Vieria would be a step back.
I'm not changing, maybe an alt. It's not going to affect me one way or the other. But I can see how others would be upset. And I would see it as a step backwards.
We can consider also the possibility that male Viera aren't yet ready to show and require small detail adjustments.
For what was spoken and how it was spoken you can perceive they are full of work, honestly he seemed tired and if he really is tired you can imagine the teams having to adapt all emotes, all gear past and the news to come, cut-scenes and so on we can only be patient and wait.
Highly doubt that males won't be add to Viera.
me main issue is the tiptoeing around male viera they are not saying anything showing anything we are completely in the dark about a potential gender for the new playable race this is not building any hype it is just building concerns about gender locking. not having models ready to showcase is one thing not even giving its existence a mention is another
It'll be weird if they pull out the 'gender exclusive race' - card after all what happened.
That would cut badly into the community.
Okay so then why not at least confirm they exist??
Like a simple "Hey, we have male Viera, we're working on them but they're not quite ready to show off yet." would've been enough.
Hell, if male Viera were in the works there'd be concept art for them right! That would've been a great thing to show off at the art panel! Oh wait they didn't.
All signs currently point to male Viera not being a thing.
Yeah I am trying to be optimistic. It's just a little frustrating because even without the actual confirmation, if you wanted to play a female Viera you pretty much had a huge yes, but if you wanted to play a male you had a huge maybe. Even if what you said is what's happening, and I'm hoping it is, it wouldn't hurt to just say: "We apologize for no footage but rest assured that male Viera is in the works!". There, you have your validation, you don't have to keep wondering all of the "what ifs" and you also don't have to be constantly telling yourself not to get too hyped in case it ends up not being added. But that's obviously just me. I'm a huge Viera fan, but in a situation like this I'd rather get a blunt yes or no to male Viera being added than a huge maybe that lingers for months.
If Viera are gender locked.... I will be besides myself... I've always liked having somewhat of a feminine male character and I was ecstatic for Viera... I'm so tired of gender locks with gear. SE treats Female characters like dolls and gives nothing to the males. And if this is the case for Viera I will legitimately be absolutely furious.
There would be no words to express the betrayal I would feel if this is the case....
so this new gender locked race and blue mage show the new directions the devs take. the easy corner curing way. give half the work for the same price. shame.
Lets wait for tomorrow Q&A time that question will be the million dollar question worry not tomorrow you will take your doubt.
Honestly they have so much consideration for the players opinions and many have expressed they want to play Viera male, seriously no joke I doubt that won't be male gender for Viera.
If male Viera are not a thing, I will be pissed. There aren't any words to describe my extreme disappointment if SE decides to make this a gender locked race. Gender locked races and classes are usually a deciding factor when it comes to me electing to not play a game.
As hyped as I am for Viera as a whole... well, it doesn't really seem like "a whole" if you opt to gender lock. :'/
I'm still holding out hope though. I would MUCH rather have male and female Viera than two different "tribes" like the other races. If it comes down to that, please make the right decision, SE.
I'm thinking they are going to pull a wait until the final fanfest to say they aren't going to do make Vieras like they did with the jobs during Stormblood's release. They knew people were going to be disappointed about two dps jobs so they waited until the end to explain.
They see the forums and know what players are looking for. They didn't mention males for a reason. We can only wait to see what that reason is.
I understand this sentiment, and I definitely value this opinion.
But if there's one thing that I've learned about watching Fanfest Keynotes and live letters the past 4 years or so is that Square always manages to disappoint.
I don't know, they just seem so evasive about this whole issue. They didn't mention it one single time. The official art for the Viera has no males, they had no concept art to show during the art panel.
It's looking grim.
I really hope they won't do female only Vieras and male only Ronsos, please Square Enix don't do this
When they teased Viera as a playable race for Shadowbringers I told myself I'd buy the new expansion if the males looked good because I hated how male AuRa turned out. If it's gender locked then well, guess I won't be buying it then.
Personally I don't mind single gender races. I played a Mithra in FFXI and Miqote in FFXIV 1.0. It feel like it adds some uniqueness to the race and lore. For example it can be fun to play as the female only race where you have a group of female warriors. The FF12 lore where Viera is directly taken from says that the males are rare and go into hiding.
It is possible for them to have a male only counterpart later that isn't announced yet as well.
Hey guys, this is the last race we will be adding...... and gender locked. Please look forward to it.
"It's just a game, get over it" You're right, my bad, I shouldn't be talking about things that worry me in a game I pay to play on the forums for that game. Lemme delete my posts so we can get back to the important discussions like how to end world hunger. That's applicable for these game forums, right?
And the fact that there wasn't even a male shown in the concept art on the splash screen? That would be how you hype. Show both concepts, then show how the ladies panned out and leave us waiting to see how they translated the males from page to model.
Besides, I still say that if you have so little content that you have to wait to announce the second half of something that should just go hand in hand with the first announcement... hmm. Content drought, indeed.
And the whole "they don't want another feminine male so they can't bear it" is also crap. How the Viera males look would be up to them. You don't want them to be waifish, don't make them waifish. I'd still think that was cowardly, but not as bad as gender-locking them altogether.
Whats next ? Dancer being female only ? Please look forward it.
Yikes the unsubtle virtue signaling.
Also really? You're attributing homophobia to someone who expressed a preference... and then went on to state "Still i wouldn't lose my shit if they added males aswell and i think they do have something special on hold."
Seems you're the judgemental one here.
my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
I agree that it's a bad move by SE to either not mention the male Viera, or to not have one/have a different male race in general. However, the way people are talking like their lives are over is beyond ridiculous. I get the "I won't buy the expansion if they ___" posts, that's cool, don't buy it. Makes sense. But to say you are instilled with RAGE over it is a bit much.
