I think I'm more confused by:

Lominsan Aetherpass Key Item A writ of permission issued by the Maelstrom, granting its bearer aetherial passage within Limsa Lominsa.

Didn't some dev response a long time ago say that anyone was going to be able to move around any town? Once you've joined a GC you can't buy another's items to the best of my knowledge. And each of these items require Private First Class. /scratches head

In any case, patch notes seem to be saying that you can only teleport around one town anyways. I'm an Adder so it's not like I'll be getting much use out of this system. Actually there are only like 3 immortal flames in my whole LS, so I doubt many people will.

I don't think it's unreasonable for them to have added this into the game. The towns are quite large, there's a lot of running through nothing but unused spaces [one run that I used to do frequently in Ul'dah was to the alchemist guild, and there's absolutely nothing between the two points except for stone walls; it's being done as a reward format so that people are familiar with the town layouts, hopefully, prior to gaining this ability.

The teleporting systems are in place because Square didn't have good means of transportation to and from each location, and many people simply don't have the additional time to devote to such blasé tasks. The anima system does cross a line as far as immersion is concerned, however I don't think the game would be playable without it. Maybe in 2.0 systems will be developed to encourage quick travel that don't break immersion nor make every place easily accessible, similar to World of Warcraft's tremendously received flight paths.

I'm just thinking of the intra-city travel as a public transit service. Like taking a train or bus would be. Didn't FFXII have something like this in it too? It's not that bad. Actually it could be pretty cool if they execute it right.

As a newly returned player, with the amount of quests they have that send you running around all over the place it gets kind of tedious tracking everyone down, where entire quests can consist of like 15-30 minutes of running. This is a good addition and I think quality of life will be much better for players without somehow destroying the scope of cities or something. The cities are still there, just like if you take a train somewhere.

This is no different than the back-alley quests in XI and I don't recall seeing a slew of complaints surrounding that back then. Then again I wouldn't put anything past half of this community.

I don't need inner city teleports in Limsa Lominsa..I wouldn't need it in Ul'dah either.
But it would be REALLY useful in Gridania..x-X'

How about we just replace all travel with menus?

I personally don't have a problem with it, but I can see why this bothers some. What's the point of having an environment if we can just be anywhere we want?

I'm most upset at how MANY points they put in each city.... you can literally walk 2 feet teleport walk two more feet teleport.

Just tested this, loading time is quite massive for town. It's not instant. I doubt it will get used as much as people thinks.

So I just confirmed this. The new Qiqirn NPCs in the towns sell the blackmarket aetherpasses among other things. You can pay with gil or seals.

I like the idea of the in city Portals. I also like that you can't use them till you buy the Special Item.

Question Though, my GC is Limsa. So if I buy the Item to use the portals. Does it only work for Limsa?

You can buy the Limsa Lominsa pass from your GC for 3k seals.
If you want to teleport around in Gridania and Ul'dah as well you will need to buy the pass from the blackmarket NPCs for 400k Gil or 4k seals per pass.

btw, low levels can't really use the aether pass. Players will have plenty opportunity to familiarize themselves and get accustomed to the cities earlier on, learn where everything is, and understand the scope of the cities.

People will say "You didn't see complaints because they had no official forums", yet from 2003 on we used Zam, Killing Ifrit and BG as our forums and could have complained there lol.
