They are open to crossplat on /their/ terms, which is why XIV still isn't on their console.
I think we're really only going to get true cross play is if one company finally buys out the other one. Like if one day Gaben went mad with power and had steam buy everything. Everything on Steam. Imagine the horror of it all.
I don't know about this. It would open the door to a lot of crap between consoles, as in certain things can't be done because one console can't handle/don't want it on their system.
I think a switch version would be kind of cool. Not the full game mind you. I would enjoy a mini game/app that you can use for the auctions, retainers and all the gathering and crafting jobs were you don’t have to do much or go anywhere. I do this now using remote play in bed with the PS Vita but it would be nice to have a dedicated app on a slightly bigger screen I.e. the switch in handheld mode!!
This is a 2014 game I'm sure the Nintendo Switch can handle it. And if SE wants they can wait for next year when Nintendo Surely releases a pro version of their switch.
Either way chances are that the next expansion will come sometime around july - october 2019
So by then a new more powerful Nintendo Switch might be released.
I think this game would actually die if that happened. Killing console support is pretty much killing more than half of your playerbase.. and WHY would you do that? If anything I say FFXIV needs MORE of us console people. Platform shouldn't matter. The only thing that should is making the game the best it can be for EVERYONE. Hell they tried the PC only route.. look what happened to THAT version of the game. - hint hardly anyone could play it and it died.-
If a console hinders the overall quality and development of the game is it really fair to allow it on said console? Even if it brings in more players why is it ok to make others who play on PC or ps4 to not have certain features or upgrades. Its bad enough PC players now cant even have certain graphical options because it isnt fair to other platform players. It really comes down to greed so we will see what happens.
Well, is it fair to expect everyone that owns it and plays it on a console to just suddenly be able to afford a second, custom PC with a high-end graphics card and processor to run XIV flawlessly...? Not everyone can afford one or even two high-end PC's in their household, they're not exactly cheap to build, and buying the defaults at places like Best Buy or something just don't cut it when they have crappy, factory standard everything that barely, just barely, gives you enough "oomph" to get the thing to boot up.
Not to mention all of those "additional" bloatware they install, ugh, I hate that. I spent a good few minutes just getting rid of the unnecessary garbage when I bought a factory standard Toshiba laptop for college quite a few years ago.
The switch can't handle PS4 games at full resolution.
The last thing this game needs is another excuse of "Switch limitations".
Now I'm not saying put it on everything. I made my reply cause the person I was replying too was saying kill all console support.. which was PS4. So my reply was saying it'll be stupid to kill off the PS4 support and not do another console cause yeah... that'll be ALOT of players they would lose. which would kill the game I think,
I dont know why so many hate the idea of it being on xbox. Microsoft have really started to change since Phil Spencer took over and if they decide to allow MMO subscriptions without gold then what is the downside. More gamers is a great thing. Negativity only hurts the community outlook. Try being positive about change.
Someone might have beaten me to this, but this is not true. I use my Xbone as a media box for my bedroom and do not have gold. Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Spotify, HBO, all work without Gold. Multiplayer is gated. Chat is not gated, just limited to (i think) 4 people. Updates are certainly not gated behind Gold. You are very misinformed.
The difference between adding Switch support and allowing low-end PCs/laptops is the software side. For PCs, you simply write the game for Windows, and have adjustable settings from max-shit to max-awesome. For example, my 7 year old laptop runs the game at minimum settings, while my 1 year old desktop runs it at the absolute maximum. With consoles, however, you need to write a version of the game specifically for each console.
To summarize, the Switch/PS3 may be as powerful as some of the abysmal rigs PC players are using, but they require resources and developers to create the game. While no matter the PC, you only need 1 version.
I'm not a PC elitist by any means, I own consoles as well and actually started this game on PS3, but these are the facts of it.
Could you imagine running through a rotation on a basic Switch controller...
I know that they make the Switch Pro controller, but it's like $70.
Nintendo Switch!? It's good news to me because I can bring it and level my gatherer and crafter class. :D
Normally, I play this game on PC Platform.
The only negativity I was aware of was that it isn’t likely to happen. When TESO launched with a subscription model, Xbox 1 still required gold membership on top of the game’s subscription to play. Despite Xbox recently flipping their stance on their infamous walled garden towards PlayStation, the ball is still in their court to green light an online game that wouldn’t require gold membership.
I want to play ffxiv on the switch i love it go out and do my daily's anywhere i go
That made me so happy the very sad a minute later!!! LOL
To you and all others wanting this on the go.
Do you realise that you need internet access?
There's no 4G to USB adapter compatible on the Switch and even if there was you still don't have a free USB port in handheld mode. Docked mode is not really portable or 'on the go'.
Most public hotspots require some sort of weblogin, good luck with that on the switch.
You could, of course, always set up your phone as hotspot for direct connection on your switch, well even if that would work I doubt it would work that good.
I honestly do not believe a Switch would be the only 'device' a gamer has. Not during this era.
Even if the person does not have a console he does have a computer at least and this game can run on a toaster.
I own a switch myself and I love it but some things are better left out.
Also, I do not want to give Square Enix even more excuses in the name of #switchlimitations.
It'll be interesting to see how black desert online is handled on xbox one when that is released. Definitely not opposed personally to the addition of xbox players myself the more the merrier is always good for an mmo. But Im not sold on a switch port.
The Switch port was and still is my bone of contention. I love mine and think it's one of the best consoles ever made for what it can do, but that's just it... For what it can do. For a mobile, handheld device it's exceedingly powerful. It however only really competes with the PS3 in terms of power and we already kicked /that/ ball and chain with the advent of Stormblood. The last thing I want to see is them devoting resources for a port only to then run into the same tired of excuses of 'well, the Switch cannot run this particular feature we want sooooo'. It's just the same tired song and dance from the PS3 era, right or wrong, and while all consoles can be limiting in certain ways I don't think being held back to quite the same level is a good place to go back to.
That's not even getting into the issue of connectivity that Fhaerron brought up, which is another bone of contention for on the go play.
As for the Xbox One port, I'd be fine with it but sadly that ball rests in Sony's court. If they refuse to play ball then frankly it's just never going to gain any traction. You can't have the player base stratified in an MMO like this and Sony has consistently been against cross platform play with their rivals.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinio...ox-one-2949935 (Spec's for those interested. Keep in mind this article is comparing first generation Xbox One's and PS4's to the Switch, with their second iterations being magnitudes better.)
In reference to cross play for a time FFXI was playable on Xbox 360, PS2 and PC before they dropped console support.
It seems to ebb and flow depending on the era. Currently however Sony is very much anti-cross play from the looks of it:

Do we know everything about why crosplay is not possible or not?
The first article is is a very one sided microsoft interview and off course they would lay the blame with sony.
The second article isnt about ffxiv at all .
On one side we have this insistance of microsoft to reguire gold subscription for ff online play, second i've heard about microsoft demanding for some kind of log in tie in between psn and microsoft live. Third is the insistance of microsoft for dedicated servers for xbox players which has been redflagged by SE. I can certainly understand sony not laying on its back and submitting to microsoft over those demands.
Unless these 3 requirements have been relaxed you cant blame either microsoft or sony since they are both guilty over not allowing crossplay
Just sold my Xbox to get a PS4 to play FFXIV exclusively. What a pain! Although I probably couldn't have waited on "positive" discussions lol
They're both about Sony's stances on the matter, with regards to two huge franchises. Neither really has to be about FFXIV at all to show a pattern and are only the tip of the iceberg in regards to the phenomenon, especially when the two games in question are very much large and would be far more profitable to change their stance over. Don't misunderstand, both sides of this are a mess. Yet Sony is the one currently unwilling to play even with Nintendo for better or ill.
The clear picture with the subject in mind is that MS have NOT changed their stance in which they want their own servers. It is that simple
Actually in this case the ball is firmly in Microsoft's court. Yoshi-P has come out repeatedly saying that they will not put the game on the Xbox unless Microsoft relaxes some of its requirements, such as the LIVE Gold account requirement and the "Xbox LIVE users will always be able to choose to play with ONLY other LIVE players" requirement. Yoshi-P will not split the playerbase, as that makes the whole exercise pointless.
IMO not going to be happened is considered as positive
It's both. SE needs MS to drop live gold requirement, SE needs Sony to stop being greedy and allow crossplay with XB1.
The first can happen with enough talks, the second so far seems unlikely, Sony has yet to make any exception to their anti cross play policy, and since they are currently dominating the console market they have more to lose if they allow crossplay.
Well, to be fair, the requirements set by Microsoft are not even justifiably fair on their own console users. In order for one person to play XIV on an Xbox One, the user would not only need to make an SE account with the Mogstation to pay their subscription fee, but they would need an Xbox LIVE Gold account as well. So, for example, the person would need to pay a $14.99 sub fee for a year and an additional $59.99 for a year with the Xbox LIVE Gold account, meanwhile, PC and PS4 players just pay the sub fee. Xbox users would be blatantly getting ripped off by the greed of Microsoft alone.
With that kind of price tag involved, they'd be better off switching consoles or just playing on PC for XIV.
Pls no, switch limitation.
sure good system but even i know gonna have issues online play with bunch of players.
Lets say the ball is in Sony's court... you really think they would be like " Hey Mircosoft. I know last gen when we asked for crossplay and when you were top of your game you said no. BUT I'mma be a fair sport. Come lets allow crossplay with our systems and forgive and forget. forget I got over 70% of the console market cause you pissed all those people off at the start eh?" NOPE. I would love to see more people play but I don't see Sony doing it.. tho it wouldn't even get to sony since first Mircosoft has to get rid of the gold thing like Sony has. Otherwise it's always gonna be a no deal.
Edit. LOL I just noticed the Irony of my post vs my ingame name LOL. Beautiful Sony...
Edit edit. I would almost pay someone to be my partner in crime and name themselves Mirocsoft windows lol
Leaving one limitation and jumping into another...very positive :/
SE is never gonna point fingers at Sony, I don't think you understand how close are SE and Sony, that's like throwing a friend under the bus. If you do a tiny bit of searching you'll see that Sony has already spoken publicly about why they don't allow crossplay with Xbox.
