Has it come to the point that letters are offensive now? Better check my literacy privilege!
This has got to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.
All you do is match the numbers to the letter spots, least that is how mine was set up:
https://i.gyazo.com/d919f9ec70eaccf8...e66a1844e2.png
For some reason despite that and taking my time, I did mix up something and got it wrong the first attempt, I do not even know why.
Just wondering though have you had issues with any of the following shown in this thread:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...e-per-lifetime
I have Dyslexia (obviously I made the linked thread) and not only did I figure out the puzzle on my own (taking the SS helped) but I was able enter the PW after one mistake (though I did go slowly both times and the first attempt, to me, was the same as the second) Even with all that i do feel the TC makes strong absolutes that are no good.
There is software available that allows even blind people to use the computer w/ a braile keyboard. Its called JAWS. I'm sure there is something else that allows people to have perfect spelling and punctuation as well... *right clicks* Oh hey a spell checker that also checks for grammar... what do you know ;P
So I guess first off, I remember when games had a line that said, "Basic reading ability is required to fully enjoy this game." Did they hurt someone's feelings too much because they couldn't read that?
Also, I'm sorry. I don't see how someone who can't read is making it to content where you need it. The game as Audio cue's because they're easier to pick up than reading, which makes you look away from the action. Just like how I don't see how Dyslexia is an issue here. You have two floors. One with numbers, one with letters, in the same spots. Even a person that can't read can pick up on that. My FC has people with Dyslexia, but the issue wasn't, "DISCRIMINATING AGAINST ME SE IS MEANIE" it was, "How do I know where letters go?" which was fixed easy by mentioning the numbers.
Also, if I want to get technical, they did put something in place. They gave those who would have more difficulty an infinite amount of time, something they could have easily timed. It IS a dungeon after all, it's normally timed. You have literally as much time as it takes you, and that's very generous when you take into account the event's story is your friend being stuck until you crack a code.
It's pretty 2017 that people would pounce on a quest in a MMO for discriminating.......even though the company actually put measure in place to avoid it, even for your dyslexia.
Please. Stop this thread? It's useless.
Wouldn't any amount of reading make you "face your REAL disability"?
Also Ariochie9771:
I don't understand on why you are so intent on letting your disability define you. Many people who play this game have disabilities, and they cope without being catered to.
Moreover, if you are looking for sympathy, I would advise against trying to get it here. Particularly if you continually tell other people they have no disabilities (with no evidence of the same), or that their disabilities are imagined or fake.
I know it's still pretty early in the year with many great threads yet to be created but I'd like to nominate this for best thread of 2017.
I also suffer from Dyslexia and for me puzzle solving can be very difficult for me. Its not as easy as you make it sound also some one with dyslexia wouldn't automatically figure it out like you did. I end up looking for the answer on google on how to solve the puzzle.
i've had chocobo crystal and bahamut myslef
Dang, this thread blew up since yesterday. O.o
You mean someone with a disability has something to assist them with overcoming their disability? Like they have resources and help available to them? It's almost like if someone had a problem reading something they could, I don't know, ask literally anyone to help them? Like OP could have done to easily bypass this obstacle, it would have even taken less effort than making a whole thread and engaging here playing like they're being victimized by a company because one tiny miniscule thing wasn't catered to their very specific disability.
You'll have to excuse me if I'm hardly sympathetic.
So by the OPs line of thinking, SE should just shut down the servers because blind people can't see floor mechanics... or anything else for that matter. Thanks OP for ruining something that is intended to be a fun puzzle challenge for the majority of its players.
I believe I tend to have more sympathy than I'd wager most people do towards folks with disabilities but when people with said disabilities expect everyone and everything else should cater specifically to them because of it, I have to roll my eyes in disgust. I have several friends who are diagnosed with dyslexia and I guarantee you if I went and presented this situation you have complained about here, they would laugh uncontrollably at your request. In fact, I'm certain that they would simply ask others to help them (as you should have) for assistance in completing it, realizing they have other gifts and talents that others simply do not have, for which they can return the favor at a later time.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news if no one has ever told you this before but...
THE WORLD CANNOT AND WILL NOT EVER COMPLETELY CONFORM TO YOUR DISABILITY. LEARN TO OVERCOME YOUR OBSTACLES IN LIFE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO.
It's unfortunate that some people have difficulties that affect their day to day lives. Ultimately, though, it's unreasonable to expect someone or something to accommodate absolutely everybody.
While I think OP's discrimination claim is pretty overdramatic, its a little disheartening that your post has so many likes. I have mild dyslexia but its very easy for me to hide it on forums because I can copy/paste anything I type into spellcheck then again into a program that reads it back to me. Catch me in game or on discord and its a whole nother story >>;
you posting with words is discrimination against dyslexia
People who don't have a disability = their opinion doesn't matter, because they are not disabled and can't understand.
People who have a disability but that disability is not dyslexia = their opinion doesn't matter, because they do not have dyslexia.
People who have dyslexia = their opinion doesn't matter because...
Wrong. You pay for the ability to access the games servers, nothing more and nothing less. You're not entitled to anything beyond that. Instead of carrying on like a petulant child because you think SE created this event to personally spite you, you could have used one of the many suggested solutions to fix you're problem and move on with your life. Grow up.
Yep, I got the same in the thread I made, several posts got deleted.
Do you have any issues with the likes of:
?
Regardless I am curious what a convo be like between the 2 of us on discord XD Since I have problems like this I am somewhat skilled in knowing what people mean (or maybe cuz it looks normal to me?????????????????)
Thinking a game developer can possibly account for every disability around and is actively trying to target a specific demographic with malicious intent is both self centered and dumb.
Here's my two cents:
1) You cannot please every player of an MMO, some (as evidenced by OP) are more snowflake oriented than others. They obviously want to be THAT person who gets noticed by the company because they were able to speak over every other person in the thread. You cannot/ WILL NOT be able to satisfy every person that frequents or even tries your product. They aim for a core demographic and appeal to IT, if they can gather up more players while aiming for that group then great, if not... Meh, people tried it.
2) It is more than apparent that in the eyes of the OP, there is no TRUE Scotsman! Others with the same disability are telling this individual that they completed it through means that are available to this person as well; YET, they are brushed aside, because... ME, ME, ME, it's all about ME and MY whiny needs. They don't want help, they won't accept help, they simply want to complain at get their 15 minutes of fame.
Don't feed the trolls kids.
I cleared both floors then just moved back and forth looking for the overlaps in numeric sequence. I can understand being frustrated but there really is no reason to assume the developers are sitting in a room thinking of fun and creative ways to "trigger" you. The puzzle was just a fun "call back" to older games, i sincerely doubt there were ppl in the dev team trying to find ways to "discriminate" against people.
For example i stopped playing FPS games cuz the graphic fidelity got high enough to "impair" my ability to play them cuz of my bad eyesight. It never really crossed my mind that they made "better graphics" to screw me over >.> I figured they did it cuz it improves immersion XD
Crossword puzzles must be the devil's work then.
I apologize, I did not mean to sound insensitive. However, I just find posts declaring that a certain group is being discriminatory just because they have a puzzle of all things to be a bit irrational. I understand that people with dyslexia have very hard challenges they must overcome, and not being dyslexic, I cannot even begin to imagine that gravity of it all. But to claim that SE is discriminating against group just because they have introduced a puzzle game is ludicrous to the point where I was driven to make my original statement.
Even though I made this thread:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...e-per-lifetime
and have problems with this area, I did not use stuff like " Discrimination" because if you do not have issues like that, how are you supposed to know it would become one to some people? There needs to be a degree of understanding from both sides. TC is too extreme, talking to some people on a different extreme, you never get a compromise like that.
With that said I took a SS of the first floor and just matched the numbers and letters.
https://i.gyazo.com/d919f9ec70eaccf8...e66a1844e2.png
Even though I took my time I got it wrong the first time (no clue why, to me I did the same thing twice) But I did get it the second attempt so I do not see how the puzzle can be that bad compared to other things in this game.
If the TC really had problems I hope he sees this, what I did was look at this SS, find the letter that Matched the 1. After doing that, I find the letter that matched with the 2, I did each letter one at a time, so there is no way to mix them up, even though I did manage to select wrong once, doono how but ya, just do that, focus on 1 letter at a time.
Yeah guess that's why the word "discrimination" prompted me to respond. Imo the word in itself shows intent, and the truth is that it just gets thrown around way too much recently. You can accuse of carelessness if you want, but discrimination is a considerable stretch. (and illegal in some cases :P )
I have to get involved in this Trainwreck of a post. OP nobody is supporting you. Look at your likes. Either your a troll or your making excuses for your inability to do something in game. Its like, I play basketball but I can't dunk, so should i request them to lower the basket so I can dunk and ruin everyone else's fun? C'mon dude.
That looks like another case of Shark Fin Soup...
This is frustrating, I am sorry about your disability, but do you really need to complain about a cool little event. Does everyone need to be catered to nowadays... sometimes things are unfair (this barely qualifies) deal with it move on. Is this how you treat everything IRL? UGH!!!!
Also, it wasn't really a word jumble was it? I mean you just had to match the number to the letter. It put it in order for you.
As with many many disabilities they vary with how sever they are. Your telling me SE should have found solutions for the most extreme case. That's just not case if you are unable to play due to a sever disability maybe you just should not play.
I and many others have problems to deal with that could effect our game play . Do I get pissed at SE because they did not cater to them... nope I adapted to them. I'm sure the majority of people also do this.
The event was a lot of fun. There are people who are good at solving puzzles, those who are able to distinguish links, patterns etc and those who are not. for those who where able to do the puzzle great. For the rest of us we either, ask others for a help, this is an mmo, look it up online, there are text based and video guides released within hours after the event, most of would have told you about the link between the letters and numbers. If all else fails people posted their puzzle answers.
Did SE think of every way to make the event user friendly, ease of use. Take into account those with learning difficulties. No this is a issue for the best software developers, creating a GUI that caters to everyone is just not feasible, there are specialist GUIs but those are made for the specific ailment and are not made for the average user.
What SE did do
The mini game has no time limit this allows all players to figure out the puzzle at their own pace.
The included the numbers on the 1st floor for a reason, once you realize the connection the world puzzle is not much of a puzzle anymore.
You are able to take screenshots, use a pen and paper or anything else that is required to aid you when you come across these problems.
After Raising this Topic on discord someone with Dyslexia had this to say " is the op of that post a fucking idiot. Just because people have a learning disability does not mean they are a retard." he found the event fun and also solved it without help.
I have dyslexia as well and i asked for help from a friend. At first i was a little confused but i figured it out. I don't think that it is discrimination. I am sorry you feel that way but SE can't cater to every single persons abilities. It's just not possible unfortunately.
Also i understand how frustrating it is but don't take your frustration out on SE for something they can't really do anything about.
I know everyone has that "friend" or whatever with disabilities that they love to trot out whenever they want to make a point, but in my case my BF literally does have dyslexia (passed over a job promo because he failed the written part, sadly) and he was able to do this event okay. It actually took me longer to figure out my word than it did for him to get his, lmao.
Crying out loud some of you lot in this thread are a bunch of rude ass people. She made thread about something that for her is an issue. Stop acting like flipping silly rabbits with your replys.
All it took was to say i'm sorry you feel this way this is how you solve the problem. Instead of attacking her and making feel like crap. God some of you lot really make me feel sick.
