If by trash you mean as efficient as the other healers. SB has the most balanced healer line up as of 4.05. If you don't see "LOOKING FOR HEALER, NOT SCHOLAR" spammed in the pf you know they're still viable in any content. Plus the added side of quickened aetherflow is well... more aetherflow stacks overall, an a consistent 45 second cd to boot. The only way you wont have 45 seconds if you didnt use your stacks to begin with. That hands down is a huge buff for scholars though you can't see it unless in long fights.

I will not discredit the clunkiness of aetherpact/fey union, but calling the ob as trash is extremely hard when they were forced to share the spotlight this expansion.

My thoughts, I feel that scholars were always meant to be the complicated healer job. I mean they are a scholar, so having stormbloods new toolkit just makes it more pronounced. You can definitely see the bad scholars from the good ones. These buffs helped scholars plainly, while I always thought they were viable in raids they further solidified them in my book. They are sturdy and strategic when they want to be, I think this expansion was meant to highlight more obviously where you stood on the bad/good scholaring tier. Regardless of personal skill, they did have their shortcomings and while I don't feel all were addressed they definitely cured any potential excuse to make them a less than useful healer.

People who think Scholar still has MP problems need to stop using Succor when the party has full HP.

Not sure how much of a difference it makes, but this is wrong. Via the patch notes spear is 10% for 20 seconds on one ally and 5% on the party when expanded with royal road. Someone would have to math out how good this is, but I'm seeing that spear doesn't come close to balance in overall dps increase. I'd like to see how it compares to chain strat, however.

I've only completed V1S as of yet, but I've found Scholar to be fun both before and after the changes. Personally, I was worried that the changes would put us back to going afk/dps while fairy done all the healing, but I'm glad to see it hasn't worked like that. After the changes I feel powerful as a healer, especially when executing a strategy well, but I don't feel so overpowered that I'm a green dps

I think the first group that cleared V3S had a sch and whm on the group.
We are on the lowest possible gear for savage right now.
This just means AST isnt as OP as everyone says, all healers are viable and good well played.

It honestly doesn't feel like that at all to me now. Feels extremely simple to play because of the cleric changes and how simplified their dps rotation is. Since nothing really hits too hard in normal content and primals (outside of big pulls in dungeons) you'll be dpsing majority of the time. Aside from some aetherflow and shield planning, sch's healing kit is extremely basic. I really wish they would focus on the "shielding" aspect of the job to make it more interesting.

Ah, yes. I misread when I quickly went to recheck the Spear Card.

"The effect of this ability has been changed from "Reduces ability recast time for a party member or self by 20% for 20 seconds" to "Increases the critical hit rate for a party member or self by 10% for 20 seconds.""

I thought the first part was the Crit Rate. My bad?

It just further proves my point that Spear is a poor man's Chain Strat so... It's not better than Chain Strat i any way what-so-ever. So pointing out I was wrong didn't really add to the conversation... >_>

Sorry, just wanted to fix the numbers there - but I guess I should have responded to the person who said spear was better than chain strat as well. Wasn't trying to say your point was wrong, just that the numbers were and it's far weaker than chain strategem at only 5% for the party rather than 15%.

On paper, Chain Stratagem is better than Spear. However, in practice it wouldn't be impossible for Spear to overtake Chain Stratagem, because AST's toolkit allows for it. Extending the duration of an AoE Spear via Celestial Oppostion, grants them not only double the duration of Chain Stratagem but because Spear also affects Healing crits, unlike Chain, we have to consider that those crit heals will allow for more DPS up time on Healers to contribute as they have to heal less. Another thing to consider is that unlike Chain, AST's cards are on a much more generous CD and can realistically be set up for an AoE Spear within a minute, even when accounting for human reaction times/mechanics/etc. The AST is given a large window of a minute 45 seconds to get a 2nd AoE Spear up which will now more than Triple the up time of Spear over Chain. This is also not even considering Sleeve Draw at all, which further improve their chance of getting an AoE Spear set up.

I don't have the numbers personally but if all it takes is 2 AoE Spears to get more than Triple the up time of Chain Stratagem, I'm going to feel that Spear is just superior to the other in a side by side comparison when you account for the rest of the toolkit as well into the mix.

Chain Stratagem is a letdown solely due to it's cd. People only rag on AST because of the quantity and normality of their buffs that sit on a 30 second cd. Now that is perfectly fine and definitely fits AST but when giving buffs to the other healers such as CS on a 2-minute cooldown.... >.> CS's cd should only be a minute long especially due to its RNG nature of getting a crit. Yes it's utility but after using it in the opener I often forget it still exists on my hotbar until the boss is at around 3% health at which point I have the internal argument of whether I should use it or not.

I love current SCH it feels like an actual challenge to play, having to plan steps ahead in advance, but little brother AST is getting clothes that fit while the dev team still hasn't given the rest of us our sizes.

Embrace is weaker.

Rouse + Whispering Dawn is still one of the craziest healing abilities in the game.

Mind you if they removed Rouse + Whispering Dawn, then Scholar would be absolute trash tier.

Here's some suggestions to help out SCH.
Reduce the CD of Chain Stratagem to 60 seconds or extend the duration to 30 seconds.
Have E-Tactics reduce the cost of Adlo/Succor by half
Up Selene's Fey Wind buff to 5%
Remove Silent Dusk and make it grant a 5% Direct Hit buff instead.
Have Dissipation alter some of SCH's abilities, depending on which Fairy is consumed and grant a free resummon afterwards.

If Eos is consumed:
Sacred Soil gets a 5% buff to the amount of mitigation it offers.
Succor grants a weak regen while the shield holds
Physick has a 15% chance to make Adlo free

If Selene is consumed:
Sacred Soil inflicts enemies inside the bubble with a weak DoT
Succor provides a resource restore based on the shield's strength.
Physick has a 15% chance to make Adlo a guaranteed crit.

We got our big buff. SCH isn't going to see a fix for Selene or dissipation. Better off begging for next expac.

You're right, even now scholars are still pretty easy to play. But it is in my opinion the most complicated healer in comparison. I personally loved the 3.0 changes, deployment/emergency tactics are a few of my favorite spells out there. Dissipation has it's uses, but definitely more gimmicky than the other two. Let's be real here which healer has the most unique forms of healing. With ast you have BeneficI/II/Aspected/Helios/Aspected H/E. Dignity. (I suppose the lady of crowns counts...) With whitemages you just have oomf healing with regens. Scholars have a shield/Lustrate/excog/indom/succor (albeit more than half are gated behind aetherflows...)

In terms of not basic heals, okay astro takes the cake, but is it really by much? I mean they're just copy/paste regen/shields really.

And on the topic of the shielding aspect of scholars, I agree their should be more focus on that, but I also feel they are hesitant to do so because shield mitigation in it's own right can make mechanics trivial. So I think providing a broader range of poignant buffs/debuffs are a way to further the job and not make them "OP" like from 2.0 to 3.3 (Astrologians got a huge ass buff afterwards and became kings/queens until SB)

It's hard to accept the reality that SE wants to move Scholar away from shields and more to raw healing. Lore clashes aside (Scholar is a Nymian tactician, not a reaction healer), it'll just take time to accept this new direction.

That said, I still have major issues with Aetherpact. We work so hard for it and it's borderline useless. What you get for what you sacrifice is usually not worth it, it's slow and wonky. I really wish it was some powerful buff instead of a HoT... But I guess we also have to deal with two lackluster final skills two expansions in a row
