That's a pretty neat torn page icon there..
edit: that just fixed itself...

so why not MOVE one of them to a different data center? Why keep letting your paying customers deal with this issue and simply ignoring it on your companies behalf? It is reprehensible to allow a situation like this to continue without coming up with a fix regardless of it being a population problem.
This early access is a freakin joke if a majority of your players can't even log in to enjoy it. If this truly is caused by congestion, you totally screwed us on launch day.
This is EXTREMELY TYPICAL of SE going back as far as the FFXI launch. Their servers used to be so bad you couldn't even connect to update the client and when you did magically start the download it took hours upon hours. They'll invest the absolute minimum to maintain subscribers. This data center congestion is a real problem though. People are paying for a service and are unable to use it. They need some good old fashioned Reddit shaming. Maybe a catchy hashtag.
I'm tired of constantly re-launching when I get booted from trying to connect to Aether.
Probably best to just take a break from the game for a couple weeks and wait for this to die down.
Oh goodness. I logged out to take a shower and now the 2002s are happening all over again. I dread when the game becomes even more congested on Tuesday.
I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to keep entering in my passwords over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
It continues! Stuck with 2002's again
Aether is overpopulated. They need to implement free server transfers to start shedding the load onto the Primal data center. There is no point to them provisioning if they cannot equalize the load across the systems being provisioned.
I'm on the Balmung server, and we have been on character creation restricted for quite some time. We have always been heavily populated. If you had moved us to a different (less populated) or new data center months ago, when we all knew this would be an issue, then this would be a different conversation. Next time we get a new expansion or large content update, it would be wise to learn from this and prepare for next time. If this is a problem during early access, I don't know what's going to happen on the 23rd when it's open to everyone. I understand that overpopulation is the issue, but let's at least keep me logged in and waiting in a queue to log in to the lobby instead of kicking me out completely then constantly and waiting in a queue on the character screen that will never move if I eventually get in to the data center. I'm trying to be more reasonable about it, but it is just very frustrating that I have paid for something I will not have access to play.
First, when you pay 13$ per month, congestion is not an acceptable answer. I was with only 2 hours to play today. i tried to log in to the game. after more than 20 lobby server error, i was able to click on my character to go in queue (500 something in the queue). during the queue, i end up with Lobby server again and the game crashed. then, i was with only lobby server error again.
You cannot leave us like that just with a be patient, it is due to congestion...or will you do the same for our monthly payment? will you put us on free access until you fix it?
As for world transfer, it is not a solution. in addition to lose your friends and FC, you lose to much. you cannot transfer your personal house, you cannot have more than 1M gils, you cannot transfer FC room, etc....not really an attractive option in my opinion.
Logged out to run to store. Guess I should have stayed logged in. Nothing but lobby errors now.
This, this is exactly what I had in mind. I thought about a third data center but it may not pan out as well since one data center would have Gilgamesh, another Balmung, and the third whatever was the third most populated server. Somehow I feel this would cause even longer queues for Duty Finder on whatever data center had the least populated worlds on it.
You would think they wouldn't leave us like this but seems they will. Personally it just seems rather odd to say "Please be patient" when there are no plans in the works to fix this issue. Patient for what? Yes the servers will quiet down some in a month or so (we hope) but its an ongoing issue for some time now that is only made worse during times like this. The official launch is going to crush the data center into the ground if it can't handle early access.
Also even if it does become more accessible in a month, what about the early access/month of subs that have been paid? Its all very....frustrating.
Except that your "nuisance times" start taking down the whole data center and affecting thousands of players on different worlds. Your "great server" means nothing to me and can shut down for all I care if I have to keep entering in a one-time password every few seconds in the hope one your ilk decide to call it a day and free up a body on the data center. It's too big and it needs to be dealt with.
I don't know if they can actually do that. It would be great if they can, though. With the amount of data they have, it might be faster to "download" the server data by storing it on several terabyte HDDs and ship it using one-day shipping to the other data center.
Exodus 5006 error all day...
We had nothing to do with any decision of locking us from transferring off the server at 2.0 launch, the issues with transferring afterwards (gil, friends, etc.) or what datacenter Balmung was put on. We can't log on either because of the way this is/was being handled by SE. I get your frustrations, but point them elsewhere.
Look. I've been trying now for over 2.5 hours. When I get past the lobby errors, I get stuck in a World is currently full. Players in queue: ###. The number doesn't change and I stay there refreshing for over 20min until I get another round of lobby errors. This is during early access; what will I be doing when the expac is actually released?
They could also promote the free transfers by sweetening the deal with virtual swag. Like if your entire Free Company moves, they get a huge discount on buying a plot plus various XP goodies, consumables, etc.
Edit: Best promo ever: Give transferring players a free level boost to 50 on whatever class they want provided they have completed the 2.0 main story. By virtue of that, they should already have a lvl 50 character, so no big deal.
We know is congested... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWchWck4omM
A lot of the servers don't even have empty housing plots available :( And unless they can actually keep their FC rank they'd have to recreate it and level it back up to 6 just to be able to buy a house again. Not to mention any members of the FC that have their own houses and have invested in the furniture/items that can't be removed once placed. Also the entire FC might not even want to move, they might be part of other linkshells/communities/raid groups that they wouldn't want to leave.
Combined with the gil limitation for moving server, and having to fire/rehire and re-level up all your retainers that you currently own, unfortunately I don't think many people would actually take advantage of a free transfer. Unless you're a fairly new character you just lose so many things by changing worlds.
Heck a lot of people won't even be able to keep the same name if they moved as well as their retainers when rehired would possibly also need to be renamed.
The game is so popular that it cannot handle all the people who want to play it. We're beating down the doors, willing to slog through this because we really, really want to play. You should be thrilled about this! Now, let us play. The reasons were always "we were too strained thin to do this or that." Well now you've had a significantly successful year with a previously spectacular failure whose reboot has almost single-handedly turned the fortunes of the entire company around. Let's let us help you continue to do just that by getting doors that are open to us. Get management to give you the resources you need to expand and let more of us enjoy the game. I like to think a lot of the complaining is just masked frustration because, to quote that trope "Why won't you let us love you?!" :p
I guess I can't understand why, after this happening far too many times over the period of a year, that lobby server errors still crash the client and why that's never mentioned in explanations of these problems. I mean, I suspect it's a poor coding choice problem that can't be fixed now, lord knows FFXI was and is plagued with that, but still folks, you should really try to do something about this. I don't think there's any other game on the market that does this, or ever did this. I don't think XI did, I think it just put you back on the title screen. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised to see 2002/5006 Survivor badges soon. Actually somebody get on that, we need some!
I also cannot fathom how we live in an era where "unsteady launches" should be an acceptable event and people defend it as an inevitability. Time and time again we see it, and it's become a "well you should've expected this" and we brush it off, and then fall for it again and again. Why do we do that? But that's just the ramblings of an old man, I guess.
You don't know that there are "no plans to fix this issue" - they haven't openly discussed what they're doing, but that doesn't mean they aren't doing anything. Trust me, I worked in a data center before. A team of technicians are currently getting overtime trying to figure out how to fix it. As soon as they have something to go on, they'll announce it, but "too many people are logging in for our system to handle" generally means there's going to be re-coding involved in the fix somewhere.
You're silly.
This is the saltiest post I've seen all week. I'm sure you're great fun, though.
Look we're not exactly pleased either, half of us who get out of work between 5 and 6 can't log into the game just like the rest of you. Not for at least another hour or two for the lobby errors to stop. And it's out of our control. The amount of people who just sit in the server and never leave are likely to be far fewer than you're imagining. For gods sake we're not villains, calm yourself.
Stop watching after 5 seconds but that made me immediately think of this :p

Kicked out. 2002 again. And when that clears, I'll probably have a massive queue.
This is simply unacceptable. Early access is a pre-order perk, as such Square Enix has the responsibility to ensure that its players can enjoy it. That's all there's to it. The lack of solution on the third day is shameful.
"we apologize for the inconvenience but ask for your patience" is not an acceptable answer.
A lot of people here clearly never played Early Access. On any game. Ever.
FOUND A SOLUTION: Change your data center then change it back.
