While I'm happy for you that you've had such a great experience with the community, many have not. Most of the time I do not see the feature abused, but it is abused far more often than it should be in my experience, and not just against myself. And I don't really think I'm "focusing on the negatives", I'm simply being realistic. Things are not all black and white.
Please do not assume that I am one of those "people" you're generalizing just because I bring up experiences that differ from your own. It's important to walk a mile in other peoples' shoes, to understand that things may be different for them.
And in my personal experience, the DF has shown off some of the worst players to offer that I've seen in any MMO I've played, and I've played many.
Never had this problem, also you cannot /tell in dungeons ... they probably kicked you for a reason, sounds like you are impatient, you can't wait for the tank, and threatened to pull yourself...impatient, rushing, and lack of friendly tone. I see why they kicked you.
One reason to get kicked is that 2 or all of the others are from the same linkshell or fc and they wanted to get their mate in, it's nowhere near as common as the OF can make it look like, though. It is a punishable offense to do this, and people do get punished for it, if nothing is said the whole run and the run is going smooth, there is no player dispute to defend the kick with. It's quite obvious this was the reason if you got booted at last boss.
This is still a thing?
People seem to not understand the idea that if something isn't broken, bad, or in error, that we don't need to be singing praise of it every 5 mins just to remind ourselves of its state. It's been clearly established that there is good in the world and that not everyone is a prick. However, this topic was brought up because those that are, have a power to abuse someone, and are doing so. This is the issue and it needs to be kept out in the open and people do need to be reminded of its existence every 5 mins so they can remember and hopefully work towards a solution to balance/'fix' it.
I was in a Haukke Manor with a really nice tank. My first run as a Bard, as I was just playing with my new Mage's Ballad.
Due to naming/shaming rules, I will refer to this tank as... Candlebutt.
His name is not really Candlebutt, and I apologize to any Candlebutts out there.
Candlebutt decided to go full-throttle "Obey Me, Bitch" mode on... I'll call the DPS Floogi.
I saw Floogi face-pull once. Candlebutt was all, "IRMAGERD, IRMAKICKAPOO U IF Y'ALL DEW DAT AH-GIN!" [Edited for anti-naming/shaming purposes]
So we're dancing our way through Maukke Hanor when, alluva sudden, Candlebutt's like, "AH WERNED YEW!" Le Kick.
I proceed to ask why Candlebutt and healer -- Shongi-Wongi -- decided to kick Floogi. Turns out Candlebutt was treating a level 30 dungeon like an effing raid!
I've been votekicked I think only twice. Both times were by the same group of a pre-made FC, but I kept coming back so they couldn't keep kicking me. I had initiated a votekick on the guy who went AFK unannounced and had been AFK on /follow for three pulls. They rejected that kick and kicked me instead. Came back, kicked me again. Came back and told them how it was.
Honestly, I find most people in this game to be intolerable with their egos in Duty Finder (check that for a second: egos in Duty Finder) and lack of personal skills. I just show up, do my job, and don't say a thing. I've never been votekicked apart from that example above. What I've found is that I just don't want to talk to most people in the DF.
They're mostly jerks, and the harder the content gets, the more of a jerk they become. You go up to Extreme primals and WoD and they're just the worst. The only reason Coil isn't terrible is because you generally do that in a pre-made.
While I don't disagree that some people abuse the system, if you are getting kicked all the time you are probably the issue. Threatening to pull ahead of the tank would probably make me vote dismiss you for harassment almost immediately. People are a dime a dozen and there is little reason to tolerate bullying.
Right, except the majority of people don't even think when they vote..
It really comes down to who pulls the trigger first, if there's any argument going on in the group, if I decide to initiate a votekick and just choose a random person that wasn't even involved in the argument, I'm willing to bet that over 50% of the time, I'd get the vote to go through :D
It's on the players to exercise caution when votekicking, so I try to read everything when the menu pops up to make sure I'm not kicking the wrong person, but it does happen more often than not.
I remember one time I got votekicked in ST because I was talking back to a tank, it was an easy run, we skipped all the boss mechanics etc.. So it was a cakewalk.. Now I'm a WHM in this run, and a Lalafell. so when I see a purple orb on Amon fight, I run into it and get the super mini, start running around for fun. Apparently, the tank takes offense at this and starts getting mouthy I just tell him something along the lines of stop being such a hard ass, this is an easy run..
Right before Xande, the bastard kicks me :D and it actually passes. Mind you, it was JUST the tank that had a problem with my antics, I was healing perfectly fine (subpar, but nobody died) it was ST for christ's sake, that's the only time I've ever gotten votekicked. Not that I cared, I just queued for another one right away.
Point is, too many people just click kick without actually reading the reason, some don't even read WHO the votekick is for.
I'm going to necro this thread (because what else is the search function for?) because I was kicked earlier today from a group by two people who were probably in a party together (since they had the same last name and were a tank/healer combo).
Now maybe it's just me... but I feel like people in a party should maybe only have a combined 1 vote or something to avoid party abuse...
never been kicked or seen an unjust kick, just sayin
I have never been vote kicked in my entire time playing. The only time I ever see people get vote kicked is if they get disconnected for an extended period of time or if they afk in any Crystal Tower raid.
Maybe it is a Primal data center thing? Skimming through some of these responses, each person that mentions it being a problem happens to be on a server that is on the Primal data center.....
(Old thread but whatever)
I got kicked once for talking too much. As the healer I made sure everyone was at 85% HP or higher and I did some dps aswell. The dungeon run was smooth, but the tank did not like that I was trying to be friendly to the group. I asked questions like how is everyone doing? or what are you looking forward to the new expansion (this was last year), but the tank was not happy and just before the final boss, he typed my name + goodbye and I got kicked.
Now whenever I join a dungeon, I type Hi and Goodbye, those are the only words that I use when playing with strangers.
imb4 people just didn't like you in that particular run? if it's a constant thing you need to check, a) are you talking to people non stop? and why? b) are you going out of your way to be bad, pull stuff etc c) were you failing at a mechanic over and over again and not improving.
I would think that talking throughout a dungeon wouldn't be that big an issue to most. Just throw out a couple conversation starters and if no one bites though, don't keep going with it.
I was going to read this whole thread, but after 9 pages I'm just going to drop this:
First, I run with friends. I also run solo. I have received a dismiss that I asked for because I could not out the heals that a speed runner needed. After 2-3 fails to the pull, I said I was not the healer they needed, so please dismiss me.
I have initiated A TON of kicks, too.
Most dominant reason: you are awful. I classify carrying bad players as harassment. Auto-attacking bards do not deserve currency for watching Hello Kitty while we work for his Zodiac drop.
In the case of the OP... I've seen abusive players (pull or I'll pull for you attitude) just play down right terribly.
They get the special "at the last boss" kick. I endured your horrible play and worse attitude all dungeon... karma time.
Or simply they thought they couldn't complete the dungeon with you. Either way: that's what it is there for.
Each time you are vote kicked, you should reflect on what you have done wrong and vow never to do that again. If you are diligent with this you will one day be allowed to play with other people for the entirety of the dungeon.
For every unjust votekick theres thousands of perfectly fine runs.
I havn't vote kicked anyone in a long time till yesterday. Maybe a newbie and the sole reason we were in the dungeon but no excuse for her actions. Despite best effort to teach her, kept pulling her gold carbuncle and running ahead of everyone and at one point we all agreed it was a bot at one point and just removed her from the group. Now main reason I say this? Cus we had a reason to remove her even if she felt she was doing nothing wrong.
Here is some food for thought OP... I am generally a very nice person in-game & IRL. If someone makes a mistake, I brush it off. If I think they may need help with something, I try to explain them the right way to do it (in a nice manner). I bring a positive attitude to every dungeon I run, even if there are several wipes, I remind myself that this is just a game and it's not the end of the world. You want to know something strange? I have NEVER been vote-kicked. There is a saying that I'm very fond of: If you meet a jerk in the morning, you met a jerk, but if you meet jerks all day, then maybe you're the jerk. Of course "jerk" is being replaced with a word that rhymes with "ask-pole", but you get the idea. Try being nice and less abrasive, and the vote-kicks will cease.
...And I mean this in the nicest way possible :D
Since the day I have been playing, I have been kicked like 3-4 times, and I will admit they were MY fault! If I see someone pull and shouldn't I give them a warning if they pull again, I just don't heal them.
Sadly, I am sure some abuse the vote-kick and for that, im sorry for the people that it happened to.
I was vote kicked as a tank, because a mnk ran into the first boss and started the encounter before ppl were ready. So I stayed out and he tanked the whole fight. I got the impression he was just showing off to friends at my expense. A votekick followed shortly after the fight was done. Weird thing is I didn't even say anything up to that point. When they were fighting the boss I just said I was eating some snacks and cheering them on.
Free 15 law for me without barely any effort :) but yeah ppl really will kick for stupid reasons.
Thinking about it now I should have reported him for harassment and abuse of the votekick feature.
You can be a saint, say nothing to offend (or anything at all) and still be vote kicked. If two people que together and they don't like your playstyle, you're screwed. So before you judge anyone based off your personal experience, maybe think about all the random factors that can be brought up.
Only time I ever vote kicked anyone was when there was three of us premade, just entered a dungeon when our fourth friend logged on, so to avoid a penalty for anyone, we vote kicked the poor DPS and left the instance. I felt so bad, we were all on skype and talked it out but no one said a word in the game chat.
Can't use /tell in dungeons.
If it happens rarely it's someone just being a jerk, If it's happening a lot it's your play style.
Rarely to me is getting kick 1/100 runs.
Anything more then that, you are likely the issue.
I've been kicked maybe 5 times.
3 times I know I asked to be kicked because they players where so bad.
People seem to be less vote-kick happy in this game than the one I left. I'm a new player (2 months) so I am hot garbage compared to people who have played enough that the combat gameplay is second nature. I have yet to be kicked.... Although.... If I feel like I am grossly underperforming, dying too much, whatever I tend to jump the group myself and eat the penalty timer. I hate feeling like I'm holding people back. So maybe I just preempt vote kicks, who knows?
As long as you are trying your best then there is no problem. The thing I complain about is when in low level dungeons say Haukke manor and there are dps wearing level 10 gear, Yes yes its an easy dungeon but to make it even easier and take 15 minutes less come with the correct gear.
Vote kick is definitely abused. I've seen it happen to others for no reason where I refused the vote in favor of the one they wanted to kick, and I've had it happen to myself 3 times playing since ARR beta.
Here are just some examples:
-I was in a 4 player group, and because the tank was a fan of My Little Pony, they got kicked. I of course did not vote against tank. The other DPS made a snide remark about 'bronies' before throwing up vote kick. The healer didn't say anything and was silent, but that DPS and the healer are the ones that approved the vote. And no, the tank was not throwing around MLP related macros or spamming chat with MLP talk. Been long time, but if I remember correctly, before the duty started he had typed a comment in chat as though he was talking to a fellow MLP fan, but he had mentioned it was the wrong chat, as I think it was meant for FC. Of course everyone has at one point accidentally said something in the wrong chat. Either way the entire thing aggravated me because I'm a fan of MLP, though I'm not a male, but doesn't matter as it's abuse and no reason to kick someone. I wanted to tell that DPS off so bad, but I don't have a keyboard and had no time to slow type.
-In another example, one where I was kicked, it was T9 and I had mentioned I was new to it and I expected it to go badly even though I watched a video guide of it multiple times before attempt. One of the other players said, "Let's just see how it goes." It went very smooth, no getting hit by stuff I shouldn't be, I even stacked during the attack we're suppose to stack, I also did not get any meteors on me so I did not have to worry about placing them, so no issues at all until the golems. During the golems I did everything right and was attacking the one I was suppose to be (and no colors did not switch yet with me attacking wrong one), but then from behind us a super golem walks up on us. Basically someone else in the party messed up. Then after resetting, everyone was just standing there and someone asked, "Why?" I thought the why was wondering about the wipe, but when my screen went black and said I had been dismissed I was baffled as that was an excellent first attempt with me making no mistakes. Now I know the "Why?" was someone not understanding why there was a vote kick to dismiss me. Afterwards, I went to check Lodestone for every player in group and turned out 5 or 6 of them were from the same FC on a different server. I even posted a thread here in the community to review the fight with the community wondering if I did something wrong that I was not aware of, but turns out I didn't, which I already knew since super golem spawn came from behind us where other party embers were. So to me it seems they jumped to conclusions and assumed I was the one that messed up, meaning they weren't paying attention to where I was at and what I was doing or they would have known. That or they kicked just to replace with a fellow FC member that came on. Either way it was abuse.
So yes, vote kick is abused. Something need to be adjusted. If queues for all jobs were fast it wouldn't be as big an issue, but for DPS that havae to wait a half hour to get in and then another 20 minutes plus to last boss only to get kicked for no reason is absurd.
Wow, really? So you have just one bad experience, and now you'll never talk to anyone? ...Really?
Dude, have fun and talk to people. :l One experience shouldn't change that, really. Especially when you're not sure if that really was why, it's possible they wanted to get a guild member in the group or something.
Just... wow. I don't understand why people would completely change who they are because of one experience that really wasn't all that bad.
I think you took it too personally, honestly. Move on and don't let it change you. It's really not a big deal to get kicked one time and once again, you don't even really know why.
