I'm starting to doubt the 20th as the release date, as much as that depresses me. I wonder if there was a mistranslation somewhere along the line, since that date hasn't appeared in anything official in English, at least not so far that I know of.

I wouldn't worry, I doubt they'd replace gear or mat drops with cards...and if they do, maybe they'll be sellable :p

Calling it right now, they're Bind-On-Drop, and there is a 50% chance for them to drop in place of gear items from Boss chests. Along with the 25% chance for last-tier crafting mats. And 15% chance that an accessory will drop.

Unless, of course, you're actually actually interested in playing Triple Triad, in which case Murphy's Law will ensure that these percentages for you specifically are switched around so there's only a 10% chance of getting the card. 1% if you want the Foil version, .1% if you want the HQ Foil.

Watch some of the better cards be desynthable into new/rare mats, sort of like refining cards in VIII.

Silence usually means they are cramming to make sure it gets released by the 20th. If they were going to delay it now they most likely would of said something earlier and if they do end up delaying the patch it will most likely be from an unexpected issue that arose as the week progresses.

IIRC patch 2.4's date was announced by Yoship during a live stream as well before it even came out in lodestone news.

Like any good worrier I'll look at information like this and claim reassurance, all while panicking inconsolably :( But of course you're right. Still I would love to see a trailer or preliminary patch notes in the next couple of days, just to be sure...

I think SE are rushing to finish the preparation works for the patch but maybe they might have some issues.

There's this news on the JP lodestone not found in the English version:

A quick Google translate of this Famitsu article pins the 2.5 drop on January 20th.

This is supposedly Hildibrand's last arc, so he technically is. (He's not essential, he adds humor!)

That's not the point, a character that changes absolutely nothing in the story line and does nothing (Except whine about how louisoix isn't around to solve her problems) has no "real" purpose to the story except for being a useless plot device, I enjoy characters with development, which she has absolutely none at all.
In 1.0 she had more development, but it's as if M Night Shamylan took hold of the story and dumbed down the characters with even a smidgen of development and purpose to them.
She was actually a strong character that took initiative and even tested the player when they found out they had the echo.
Now she's just a bland, overused plot device (And boy do I hate the damsel in distress plot device as they tend to be worthless characters)

That's what I recall, yea.
But there's actually no word on that matter on the Patch 2.5 Notes. They're just saying "only one item per week in CT3", so, I find that to be a bit weird.
Maybe it's a mistake from the patch notes itself, but since it's quite a big change from how CT2 worked on that matter,I was expecting some words on that matter.

And your attitude "please kill her" because she isnt the killing-everyone-machine and (in your eyes) less important character is quiet strange.. for me a character does not have to take the major role in order to be sympathetic to me..

Kimahri in FFX didnt add that much to the story either... but i liked him as a character

I'm going to guess that the new mystery trial is a face off with an Ascian in an area called the Void. Also, it appears if the new mount is called Kirin.
