cg^^ I had some mooches, too. But sadly no luck
atleast we know its there and just insanely rare
Yeah, and I think there really must be a strict time limit too. Most of the heatwaves in the last few days have been in a 0:00-8:00 period.
Hi there... New to this batch of rare fish. I see that some have special requirements involving buffs and orders of fish caught, etc... Can someone explain this to me a little, or direct me somewhere that has an explanation?
Just got a Helicorpion. ET 10:51AM Overcast > Heatwave.
I also just got a Helicorpion. ET 12:55 Overcast > Heatwave. HQ - 217.2 ilms.

Overcast->Heatwave 15:00 ET, lost the first one and got lucky on the third mooch :) In case anyone doesn't know, the Storm Rider gives a 'long' tug on the rod every time so you can minimise the amount of other fish you catch by skipping the ones with the short tugs on the rod.
Just to confirm - you need to CAST during the buff in order to catch the fish. I've just caught Namitaro this way:

BTW - Namitaro is untradeable.
Updated first posts with new data and more - verify please (gathering 424 anyone? :)
421 is max
Double Blizzard & Double Heatwave coming up...... do I use that to test Shonisaurus or get the Helicoprion i'm still missing? ;_;
Edit: You can extend Endocreas time window. I caught him at 2:30 and 3:35 am.
yeah -= lol - fixed the math :)
Heya guys, first off I wanted to say thanks to all of you for making the lives of some of us a lot easier in regards to the new fish, you people are amazing ^_^
secondly, while I can't help with the legendaries, I can try with the easier stuff and can say that you can lower the gathering required on pirate's bane to 361
once again, thanks for all your awesome work ^_^
Exactly 37 bites on Nepto at 411 gathering (half of those with 421 gathering) without a catch. I almost don't care what the conditions for Shonisaurus are.
I'm trying to catch kuno for more than 1 week now, have spend dozens of gloom there with fishing
had 1 bite during that time and lost it
I wanted to pass along some information that Foxclon recently posted when responding to a player on the Japanese forum.
Since Nepto Dragon is a legendary fish, it is has not been included in the 106 varieties of big fish that need to be caught for the achievement “Go Big or Go Home X” in order to obtain the Ironworks fishing rod.
While we can’t share the specific value, the legendary and big fish that have been implemented can all be caught with the equipment that has been added as of Patch 2.4, and these fish can be caught without the use of free company actions when using the new equipment.
Thank you, Grekumah.
@Ricardon He seems rediculously hard to hold on to. I have been fortunate enough to catch 2/5 at the start but since then gone 0/15+ @411. Don't give up! :)
At least the buff is decently long & can sometimes get up to 6+ bites per weather.
Thanks for the info Grekumah.
Nepto Dragon was actually really easy to catch for me. I got 3 of them during two 8 Eorzea hours long fishing sessions. One of them was with 409, another with 411 gathering. RNG could be RNG of course, so good luck!
The only fish I'm still missing other than the elusive Coerthas legendary is Blood-Red Bonetongue. Not only the precondition is the extremely rare double weather plus time frame combination, but after 10+ windows I haven't even seen a single bite yet... This seems a bit excessive, and I suspect one of these conditions may not be really required. Can you guys share any info if you have managed to get this fish?
updated my spreadsheet from a while back with info from this thread and ff14angler if anyone is interested. i've caught all the fish except shoni so once there's more information on it or if i happen to come upon it myself, i'll update it again.

Shoni is a mooch from HQ Mahar. This is insanity...
http://umigamelife.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-278.html
Isnt worse than kuno imo >.<
\o/ hurray finally let's get started
bring dem blizzards ... if only helicoprion wasn't still fleeing from my storm riders
I just wonder that so many people already caught Mahar and noone of these, who got a HQ one noticed that it can be used as mooch
I think HQ might be more rare than you think. Everyone in this thread and on ff14angler got NQs as far as I'm aware.
Also keep in mind that Japanese community very often keeps the discussion to itself. I just went ahead and googled a translated version of Shoni's name limiting search time to the last week. Other than the link I posted earlier, the first unconfirmed mention of "Mooch of HQ Mahar" was dated to the last Wednesday (November 6) and some lucky guy already got their "of Dragons Deep" title a couple of days ago.
i caught many of the new big fish in HQ, I dont think they are that rare
1/3 - 1/5 chance probably
shoni should be atleast way less rng than kuno...
just catch a 1/10 HQ cloud cutter, have a 1/3 chance for mahar, 1/2 that you'll lose the bite, 1/5 that it will be HQ, 1/2 to land the shoni
makes a 1 in 600 chance per cast to get a shoni
kuno is just ... get a HQ silver fish which is probably 1/10, mooch a HQ goldfish which is a 1/10 chance, 1/3 chance for canavan, 1/2 that you get it,
thats a 1 in 600 chance just for the canavan....than you have 23 minutes for a 0.4 - 0.5% chance per cast for kuno
Credit to Eremonxi for getting it almost exactly right :)
Quote:
Rarest condition->Zonespecific Condition->shared mooch with other big fish in area
then i would expect it to be:
Clear weather(4.7%) -> Blizzard (19.4%) -> Saucerfish Mooch
Does the new rod give any extra bonuses? Like the fish dont get away? :)
you still lose everything as usual, even with 421 gathering
Suddenly:

(1/1 with Colacanthus and 1/1 Endoceras - but no luck with Void Bass and other "simple" ones :)
EDIT:
lucky night :):
