Well, that's certainly interesting. Now we just need an actual reason to be piloting them; Skies of Arcadia style Airship battles please (apparently I have to make whatever SE gives us disappointing to me...).

wow... this thread has been derailed.
I'll rerail it when the patch notes finally show up. So, what seems like, never.
Apparently it's a rule of nature that complaining about something immediately fixes the issue;

PATCH NOTES ARE UP!! :D
So, unless I'm too tired to have actually made sense of this;
Looks like we're getting exactly the same as Free Company Housing. Good news for us mega-rich who can log on instantly (no new GC Rank either so...), bad news for the poor who cannot log on instantly. There are only two new Wards, SE dropped the ball on that. Heck, it seems like they cost the same as Free Company Houses... I'm really not sure what to make of this...
Two new wards being added for both FC and individual purchase. The pricing will be the same regardless of intent.
Looks like my 70 million mansion awaits in a few hours; SO HAPPY!
Well player housing shares the same wards and prices as FC housing.
Time to riot.
Yep, not only did they decide to change the affordable personal housing idea, but they made it FC housing ward-based so there will be a mad dash of people logging on to save a plot they can afford:
http://31.media.tumblr.com/760aea369...0luco1_400.gif
My question is... If my girlfriend and I decide to share a plot, are we going to be able to set permissions so we can both place and move furniture etc?
I know right? Why did they ever even mention 850k? Heck, since it's a carbon copy for FC Housing, Gardening should be perfectly fine. So... All of the information we did have on Personal Housing was complete and utter bollocks? I'd say I'm confused, but I'm not. Not at SE anyway, confused at my self for expecting anything less from them, sure.
Two Wards for Personal Housing and any Free Companies still lacking a House. Seriously... Those are going to last a few hours at best, nice job SE.
Also, how much Gil to they take when you move server? Because I am getting so damn sick of this pricing system. It made sense in 2.1, now it's just stupid, especially with Personal Housing in mind...

Hope something amazing happens with airships . . . I know Yoshida was talking about fighting or teamwork involved with using them (his "maybes" so not assured in any means). While less useful I hope we get a cute overworld to traverse or something, I loved that part of FF games. Basically a chocobo porter system (to towns or other SE approved locations like aetherytes you can dock with/drop down), and to make sure a gil sink doesn't disappear have a maintenance cost*. With a lot of optical tricks you could make the map load without too much wait on ps3 (distance with low res textures, with decent looking cloud cover = won't be terrible to load or look at).
Going to be sad if they design airships as a very temporary content, FF has done so much with it and I'd consider them a very exciting moment - unlocking that airship in the games that had an overworld.
I typed above as the patch notes came out. Saw the district information - I laughed and cried. Oh well like I said earlier here, it is a good time to let SE know what people actually want ("that game did it better, why are you doing it like this?" lol).
god forbid the players be happy right, Square. Lord know your game would emplode on itself if you actually did anything that would make anything simple or anyone happy. What the difference between this and ppl setting up FC with one person... it has been and is done.. I couldve had this "personal" housing last month.

I am almost certain I am not going to get the plot I want, even if I run to log in. Cannot believe I've waited so long for this, if Ninja wasn't around the corner I'd probably stop playing.
Last time they added new Wards on Excalibur, they didn't take long to fill up, and that was for Free Companies. Now anyone can fill up these two Wards. Pathetic, they could have at least blocked people with a Free Company House from purchasing right away, considering, you know, they have a House and Private Room. But no, "Leaders and members of free companies that already own estates can also choose to purchase plots as individuals.", make it so every single person on the server can fill up these Wards as soon as possible. Bravo SE.
Oh good, reached my daily post count. Time to piss off and probably not come back until SE hires someone with a degree of common sense about them. If they'd just blocked Free Company members who already have an estate from purchasing, until 2.4 when they plan more Wards (probably another two, not getting my hopes up again), I would be 90% less pissed off about this.
Time to start buying out Clear Demimateria and Allagan Pieces from idiots on the Market Board so I can move with all my Gil then. Go figure their server transfer system is as idiotic as everything else.
One big thing people seem to have missed is that they're adding a large number of wards in 2.4. This isn't the end if you can't afford what you want today. I'll admit it's going to be a long night for me since I absolutely want a specific house and have been planning this for months now.
Best of luck to everyone!
I'm just jaw dropped that they
1) put FC housing and personal housing in the same area, instead of making a whole new area/scenery to go with personal housing.
2) that they made personal housing the SAME price as FC housing. How does it even make sense to have a single person buy something at the same price as what a group of people are supposed to buy?
3) That they only added 2 new wards, i'm on a medium populated server, i feel terrible for people on the more populated servers, not only will there be a mad dash, only the super rich will be able to buy personal housing, and free companies that have been waiting to get a house now have to compete with these people for a precious plot. People that anticipated the pricing to be lower (since yoshi initially hinted around 800k) will be left in the dust, wanting a house, but by the time they have enough saved, all the plots will be gone.
Personal housing is supposed to be something fun that most people will be able to do... Why they even thought this was ok is beyond me... They're really cutting corners, and they're going to loose valued customers because they're too cheap to upgrade their servers. I'll be fortunate enough to be able to buy a small house right off the bat, but i seriously feel for those who's hopes are going to be crushed. Even I didn't think they would stoop so low as to have personal housing be the same price as FC housing.

$18 and you can only transfer 1 million gil the rest will be lost (also 100 thousand for each retainer). It is pretty annoying, I agree XD
And if you want to pay that 850K pricing you only have to wait 60 days! lol (They said half life of price is at 30days, on my server at least that'd be about 2 months for a new person).
Hope they slow down the use of gardening in the game, that's going to kill new people who cannot afford to buy a house but are getting gouged by the rich to be richer lol. Glad my FC mates let me own the garden when I want XD <3
guess this means personal housing can have it's own private airship huh? nothing is fc exclusive!
What the actual hell... screw "optimization" and "server load." We've all seen the reports; FFXIV is what has been consistently earning Square-Enix a profit since its release. Buy more servers and get the space!
It's individual housing. INDIVIDUAL HOUSING. It should be for everyone, every single player! You all made housing such a major part of the game, and for Free Companies, the way it was implemented was fine. But the purpose of personal housing shouldn't be a gil dump. It shouldn't be to show who the richest players on the servers are, or be a race about who can log in the fastest. Personal housing was supposed to allow every player to enjoy the housing content.
And no, doubling the housing wards in 2.4 isn't going to solve that.
How many players are there per server? Because I guarantee it won't be enough, especially now that the Free Companies who have been waiting for their new wards have to actually compete with every single individually rich player in the game.
I have been defending the game, the dev team, everything because of how much I enjoy this game. But this is such a huge step backward. It's lazy, it's poorly thought-out, and it wasn't implemented with the player-base in mind. Is it really that hard to create one singular instance that players can go into and have their own home, and invite their friends into?
No, instead of creating a new instance, instead of creating areas designed specifically for personal housing, all we get are two new wards and the ability to individually purchase land AT THE SAME PRICE AS FREE COMPANIES. The same prices that has taken whole FCs months to save for? Really?
For once, just once, could the dev team please just give us content that isn't designed for the top-tier players, that eventually trickles down to the casual players 3-6 months later?
Honestly, this is just sad and disappointing. For the money we all pay you guys each month, I was expecting a lot more.
Oh, almost forgot; from earlier in this thread:
http://nwaksblog.files.wordpress.com...d-you-so-o.gif
I'm so furious right now. He lied. YoshiP lied. I defended him. I said he wouldn't do certain things. He did and wants us to take it as if we are STUPID. He. LIED. They were supposed to be separate zones with prices reflecting that 1 person was paying for it. I'd rather they postpone it until they had it right instead of this. I will no longer support him or defend him.
Are we doing quote backs? :D? We nailed it didn't we? Although unfortunately while I could I'm not quite ready to part with 4 million for a small house, let alone hoping to get a medium which im not going to do for sure now lol.
There is one issue to this idea though, we're playing a SE game. :P
They're completely capable of isolating themselves from the rest of the world, occasionally their QA takes the patch off and everything just vaults straight to the docks and into the holds, fire sale to hit ship and sail for players to beta test live lol.
I think this is the case, if they had a wonderful instanced system set up I would imagine they'd share it for pride. This seems more like the quiet before the storm lol.
Servers with a lot of gil are going to be the worst, I wonder if we will crash the zones trying to get that iHome rush. .
Of course I could just be pessimistic and everything is wonderful, but from what SE has said and what they've done in the past - I don't think what is wanted is what will be. I do think though if we make a big deal about it that SE can get out of their shells once more and see that there are some excellent systems in other MMOs for housing. I would expect the worse and let SE know (if what I assume is true) that they need to think of some other ideas.
/debbiedowner XD
2 new wards would barely cover the FC needs. They need an increase of a couple orders of magnitude, not a couple of wards, if they want it to work at all as personal housing. All this update accomplishes is to take something that's NOT by any stretch of the imagination personal housing and using it to destroy FC housing. Now neither one is going to ever be available. I think SE has just destroyed their game.
They certainly pissed off a lot of people. I'd really love to hear what exactly went on here, because there is zero reason this couldn't have been included in 2.1.
At least I don't hate my Free Company members anymore. Used to be their fault I couldn't get a House, seeing as they were dirt poor and I was already close to putting up 50% of the cost. Now I just hate Yoshida.
I'm not about to quit the game or anything.. but the personal housing is such a disappointment right now. I was REALLY looking forward to it. I saved and saved in hopes of a medium house but I don't think I could even get a small house :/ Even if I waited for prices to drop they will probably all be bought up. Plus I still want a medium but that is bare minimum 15 mil..... Why are individuals supposed to pay the same price as a whole FC?!? Why??????? Just sad now :(
Right on the head.
Btw SE why dont you just charge us real life money for gil or whatever and maybe we can just raise enough money to buy you the servers you need.
On a side note I keep seeing these ppl who say: "Oh you can get 6 mill in like 6 hours of play" Then why are we still beating this legacy server dead horse. How many times do you need to bleed us? The new servers have had 2.0 as long as we have. It's time they burn with the rest of us.
The great irony is that anyone wanting to make some gil on the markets is going to suffer from this, because everyone is suddenly going to hold onto their gil and at the same time huge amounts of gil is going to be removed from the game at the same time.
Going back to what this thread was about last week; Well... It's obvious to see why they said absolutely nothing, but I still think they should have said something. Somewhere along the past nine months (actually, when was that 850k ballpark figure posted?) they changed their plans, and said nothing. Had they said something, a lot of this could have been avoided, instead they opted for nine months of silence. Hope they're not surprised at this out rage, this is exactly what happens when you don't communicate with your playerbase.
Whatever though, after Hunts and now this (and lots of other little things), I've lost all faith in this development team. Any good will they gained from turning 1.0 around is gone, and they're just another SE development team; it took them a year to go from super stars to no different than XIs developers. Hope they're proud.
The mistranslation was that it would be lower, they still gave 850k as a potential figure, even if "that sounds a bit low", or whatever Yoshida said. Why even give a figure like that? Why not just say "We cannot discuss pricing at this time" or, "We're still working on the pricing". Actually, that last one would have been a lie, since they didn't work on the pricing, at all, but still.
Well, I don't feel like looking it up, but the conversation was something along the lines of:
Q: "Well, I've got about 850k saved up so far. Would that be enough?"
A: "No, it wouldn't"
It wasn't ever really mentioned as being a potential figure. It's simply the only number that appeared in the conversation, so players latched onto it.
But the reason I don't feel like looking it up is that I couldn't care less about the price. It's irrelevant since there aren't going to be houses for anyone to buy anyway. Eight wards total, and only two new ones? When they clearly need several hundred? That's laughable, except I'm not laughing.
I had figured that even if they screwed up personal housing, we'd at least still have FC housing. I'm in what was originally a two-person FC, but turned into a de facto private FC when my partner quit playing. I figured that if they screwed up personal housing enough that I didn't want it, I could get an FC house once I hit FC rank 6. Now that's not going to be possible.
I'm guessing the two new wards will be filled in about 5 minutes, long before most of us can even download the update. Houses go to those from amongst the ultra-rich players who have the fastest download speeds. Even if I had the rank and gil for it, just the fact that downloading a patch takes me several hours would be enough to keep me out of the running to even be able to try to get one.
So basically, if you don't already have a house, you can forget about ever being able to get one. You've got probably less than a 1% chance of ever seeing an available plot to buy, either as an individual or an FC.
