I made a thread about this topic as well and got no response from dev.
Here's link.
Basically the problem is the client doesn't recognize new hardware while the client is running.

wish the devs would give us some information on this to fix this problem or let us no that they might be working on something.
i understand that there very busy but shouldnt take to much of there time to even just write a simple reply saying something like were looking into this or we are working on this or even this is how to fix this problem ><
edit summary: I have the same Xbox360 Wireless gamepad problem too without resolution and all tests failed.
I completely skipped over this question months ago.
This gives me an idea that I'll need to test tonight (which won't help anyone running the game in Fullscreen mode).
I also suspect this will be better addressed in 2.0.
I believe other games *may* be using a Persistent Profile with Windows instead of using a profile with the instance of the application. Like Vindictus, if the game app loses focus, my gamepad still functions as a mouse or super limited keyboard emulator in Windows for a time. And I think the Persistent Profile part of it.
I don't know 100%. It's also similar to the USB headset concern. Where you turn on the game before plugging in the USB headset, your audio by default will not come through the headset. Likewise, if you unplug the headset and replug it, the audio doesn't default to the headset.
Two thoughts: I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Is anyone else for whom it *doesn't* work?
Also, I play in windowed mode (maybe that helps it be picked up)... you guys?
edit: Also on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. Microsoft Xbox360 Wireless Gamepad.
I've tried a barrage of tests. The MOST hope I ever had was, the gamepad is not on when I start up FFXIV. I turn on the gamepad after FFXIV starts up, gamepad works. If I turn it off and try again, the gamepad does not work in that instance of FFXIV.
If I start up a new FFXIV window, the gamepad functions there, but FFXIV does not allow multiple instances, so it prevents the second instance from running.
The game will not boot up properly if I leave FFXIVConfig open.
I cannot find any command line arguments to run the ffxivboot.exe or other programs with.
The other day, I saw Dance Central 2... and near it, the Xbox Power Charge Kit for the gamepads. I cracked. I bought it. And now I plug up the charger in before walking away from the computer.
Admittedly, I would never have bought it if the gamepad recognized later.
this may help windowed users: if you go AFK and use the 360 wireless controller, minimize 14 and open a new window (folder, web browser.) if the controller goes to sleep turn it on with other window active (i use chrome looking up recipes XD) THEN select the FFXIV window and it works fine. if the controller falls asleep with FFXIV as the active window and u try what i suggested it wont work. FFXIV cannot be active when the controller disconnects.
sadly for me my wireless receiver died so i started using my wireless Logitech rumblepad 2 and don't have the problem now.
I think I started coming to this conclusion before, but couldn't reproduce it. May tries it later.
anyone got a way to fix this i tryed to get that program but didnt work for me so deleted it and now cant even download it now to even see if i can get it to work again ><
All that work I put into making that driver download pack and Megaupload is taken down by the FBI. *sigh*
I'll see if I can't dig the folder out of my computer somewhere and re-upload it to a "respectable" website.
