Please tell me the auto-login "feature" is only temporary

Well in retrospect, since people think modern mmos do not have a logout timers here is a list of some that do, in no particular order:

WoW
SWTOR
Star Trek Online
LOTRO
Rift
GW2
Neverwinter Online
Aion

And that's just to name some current and popular MMOs. (lol @ maple story and vinductus). It's industry standard and common practice to reduce server load, even when servers are not maxed. It makes smoother play for people who are actually playing, regardless of it not being capped at the moment. There is NO valid argument against an AFK timer as it takes 5 seconds to log back in, and people who do other stuff while in Q can tab back in every 25 mins to press A button. Not the end of world. You can QQ all you want, this wont go away.

Welcome to the internet. I just wrote him off completely by the tone of his post. There are clearly still issues on some the JP servers and primetime NA/EU servers. This person is just complaining to complain, and even went so far as to blatantly lie about other games not having them. If your going to pick the most popular MMO to use in an argument make sure you do your research.

The only 'issue' I can see is if you plan on afk-ing while in queue for DF, and if you're doing that it would imply you're going to be nearby to accept the queue once it pops. Thus, hitting a single key once every 29 minutes is not difficult. If the game logs you out under any other circumstance? You spend 15 seconds logging back in and continue playing.

Exactly this. I haven't seen a single reason why I would consider this feature anything but good. If you want to idle in the DF queue, 30 minutes is plenty of time to do something to keep from logging out.

Since you like to scream about what a mmo is meant to be like I'll make it simple. A mmo is a game designed to feel like a living breathing online world, no where in the world do you go in real life where people stand in place for HOURS on end not responding to anyone or anything around them!? NOWHERE

There is no reason this should be in the game as it effects the gameplay of others in more way than one. Stop poisoning the experience for others because your to lazy to simply log back in, or since getting around it is so easy why don't you post on here less and spend more time making macros to avoid it

Yea and with the horde of afks being logged out, the servers may be a lot more stable and areas not crouded for needless epeening. I mean I like to show off my scholar relic too but I can do so while actually playing the game.

And wow will log you out of the game back to char select and eventually back to login after that. They should do it that way too.

Login queues were addressed well with the initial datacenter expansion. The biggest problem since then has been gil sellers.

Dev cycles don't respond instantly to your concerns, so instead of a right-click/blacklist button or some kind of effective anti-spam heuristics, you get an AFK timer.

No, it's not, because they shouldn't have to do that. It's NOT NECESSARY OR NEEDED. As long as people can log in (which they can, I have not heard any complaining since after the last maintenance), this feature serves NO purpose other than to cause aggrivation. It may only be a minor annoyance to you, but it is still an annoyance and one we could do without. I object on principle. I don't care how easy it is to log back in, it shouldn't be necessary to have to do so in the first place. Things that aren't needed shouldn't be added to the game, whether you think they're bothersome or not.

An MMO is an MMO. Just because you don't like it or think it's shitty, doesn't make it not an MMO. It's not a bullshit post, it is legitimate. They are MMOs, they don't have autologout features, it is a valid example. If you want to weigh the examples based on your opinion of their contribution to the MMO universe, then FFXI should count for all 5 since that the game that a lot of us came from and it didn't force people to log out after 30 minutes.

You're still taking up space that could be used for a player actually playing the game, or causing unnecessary server load. We all share the game. What insult is it to be removed when not using it?

If it's that much of a bother to you, you can use one of those anti afk kick macros you where talking about. Really, its not even an annoyance. If you're gone from you computer that long, what's 30 seconds of logging back in? I don't see how the extremely minor negative outweighs the minor positive.
