Those were around pretty much since the beginning though. Reps had mentioned they had many of them banned but there was just no way to keep up with how many accounts they were creating.

If the other standard MMOs are any indication, RMT won't have much of a leg to stand on so long as the developers keep control over progression. RMT was stupidly trivial in WoW because almost all of the character progression is tied to PvP via arena points or BoP gear via raids. They got so desperate that they started making lv1 alts, running them to the city to shout ads for their RMT company, after which everyone in the zone would report them for spamming and continue with their day.

I think you're confusing "standard MMO" with "Final Fantasy XI" in this case.

@OP: Be careful of what you wish for. The more tight-fisted you are to prevent RMT, the more regular players get screwed over caught in the crossfire, while said RMT find workarounds or simply have more man hours and man power to trudge on through. That's not mentioning bone-headed design decisions made out of fear of RMT.

It's plausible, I don't know about your server but around Sargatanas they were named very stupidly, most of them being Aaaaaaaa Bbbbbbbbbb and so on. Wouldn't be TOO hard to check, but it would require some effort to sort out which ones are legit or not.

Yeah, here on Ridill they were keyboard mashed names like Fdsklj Daslhk. Very easy to identify from a glance. Especially when there were little clans of keyboard mashed named lalafells in weathered Conjurer gear running between the Limsa Aetherite and the leve counter, and then returning to Cederwood aether gate or Bloodshore camp.


PS. Yes, I'm aware this seems odd coming from someone with a username like mbncd... But my name was well thought out, as explained in the "What's the story behind your character's name?" thread. It was not a keyboard mashed name. It sure looks like it was though >_<

I always wonder why botters never realize how they allow intrusion into their systems by falling for such programs. Just don't play on a system you depend on with them. Or whine when "My account got hacked". For a period in FFXI, bot injectors where the lead for RMT's to hijack accounts. As well as snoopers.

Keep in mind Gil totals are beign reduced with those with large cache storage. 1000,000,000 won't be 100,000,000 any more.

Most bots are actually home brew by people with programming knowledge. Most "bots" that you download from someone else are keyloggers.

The professional botter will never share his money making tool.

rofl, this would be amazing. We get a report at the start of XIV saying X accounts were banned, X amount of gil removed from circulation.

To my mind, the reason why there wasn't a huge amount of RMT in 1.0 was lack of demand due to lack of players. But I sure as hell know that the few RMTs around were running around rampant and completely unchallenged, EXPing and grinding in target lock chains.

Yes, there were a group of those upstairs in the LL headquarters. I would report them over and over and over, they were grinding cyrstals. Finally after a month I think it was they were finally gone, so I don't know why my reports went unanswered or why it took them so long to do something about this...They are so obvious...

Only a couple of the reports I sent in actually amounted to anything, and it took multiple reports over the coarse of a few months for it to happen. Many other reports I sent in like the ones against the sheep bots in Coerthas were ignored and they were allowed to bot it up up 24/7 until the servers went down even though numerous people reported them.
