I actually like this idea :D
Naturally I would have my main character on a "normal" server but for some proper excitement I would keep another char on perma death server.
I doubt this will happen though :/

Frankly, as interesting an idea as this is, there wouldn't be enough demand for this sort of thing. At least not enough to warrant changing the game code and dedicating the server space for it.
Even IF there was a server like that, It would be completely empty.
Because all you have to do is get unlucky with 1 boss, and you lose everything.
What kind of a fool would play on such a server with bafoons liable to let them die? If you would have read the first post in the thread you would understand that one of the merits for such a server is that it would build an extremely tight knit community. Players would party with freinds they know they can depend upon.
This.
What's hard about Powerleveling a job to 50 in 2 days or spamming enter a bajillion times til your crafter/gatherer dings 50? Actually like someone else mentioned a smart player would likely have a separate character dedicated to crafting and gathering so that if his battle character died that progress wouldn't be lost.
Common Sense is severely lacking in this neck of the woods.
Actually I only used Diablo as an example once for the fact that I played it and to illustrate that you have a choice how to be affected by the outcome. The rest of your balony is superfluous. The OP is not asking for anything akin to that nonsense.
Completely subjective
Another subjective opinion having no foundation on fact
Seriously? So an entire server made up of pre-existing groups (after all, who would trust a stranger eough to play with them), which means no socializing outside of 8 others, and you think this would actually be viable enough to warrant an entire server of its own? And what happens when something goes wrong and everyone ends up dying? It's going to happen, I don't care how good a group you are, no-one is going to be able to go far without something screwing up. Just how many times do you honestly think people are going to want to repeat releveling their characters, with the exact same group (since no-one will talk to or trust starngers)? I can guarantee you that the novelty would wear thin, very quickly. Quick enough, in fact, that the server would be dead within a month.Quote:

Now, I could see a group doing something like this as a side activity. Probably would be fun to see how far you could get, but you don't need a separate server to do it on.
The whole point is that players crazy enough to play on such a server would be recruiting static members from their main character's non perma death server. This is just the logical outcome. You said it yourself "probably would be fun to see how far you could get" and that's just hte point. All players would have a main character on a different server. Partying with a static group of friends you can trust only decreases the likelyhood that you will die by a strangers fault.
Yes I know one player disconnects and the whole party goes down. This is true for all games that have party based content and perma death (though i can only think of diablo) and people still play it. It's just meant to be a fun however difficult side activity if you will.
I'm all for this if and only if we get a Nervegear
Terrible idea.
This idea is just .. no. Main reason: Griefers will come in with the sole purpose of finding ways to MPK other people. They exists in every game period. As long as there are multiple players involved, at least 25% of the playerbase will exist as griefers if not more. Hardcore Diablo players have ran into these players on public games too often. I avoided death, but they had to add zone to towns, because people would train NM packs to the town spawn area. FFXIV will not be immune to ways to MPK other people. There will be ways, and there will be people actively trying to do it.
