I wouldn't mind be able to recruit a dragon (or a drake) as a mount/buddy. I don't think there is any real reason to limit the "buddy system" strictly to chocobos.
I am against the idea of dragoons being defined as "the one with the dragon pet."

NO
WYVERNS
ALLOWED
(sig relevant)
Edit: Oh, wait, derp me. I thought this was the old thread in the Lancer forums :(
Oh well, joke's on me, I guess
Willing to bet that wyverns would make DRG horribly OP.
Don't expect to see many of XI's mechanics in 2.0, they'd kill game balance.
unless they make another mountain deist wyvern in ff14, i don't see a strong melee DD job degrading into a pet job anytime soon. however in other games, the characters with the dragoon essence in them didn't have a pet. for example we have ff7 cid highwind with dragon dive for example. I perfer keeping the dragoon essence in them that way, thats just my preference.
edit: I'm not saying pet jobs are inferior. its just that drg is strong as is, and this will likely result in re-balancing their stats.
I don't get why if you summon the wyvern your attack power gets halfed, and the othe r half goes to the wyvern.
If you don't summon it you keep your attack damage up.
This way you can have a pet if you want, or you just don't have to summon it.
I'm amazed how angry ppl get at the mere suggestion of a pet dragon for DRG, especially with so much of the FFXI community playing this game. I personally don't care since I've never played as DRG.
If I was to be passionate for a class, it'd be a Mog Knight class with a Moogle pet/buddy.
