While I Can't say I quite agree given how some NPCs run around, I understand where you are coming from and why. Thanks for the insight, your answer is appreciated!

Not sure how dressing up in plate armour would be awkward for a BLM, when there's people running around as giant frogs, elephants or even power rangers.
What gets me is why they can’t just do both lol.
Keep JSE/AF job-locked then ‘unrestrict’ every other piece of equipment in the game.
Then players have a ton more freedom for glamour options and they can continue having a unique aesthetic or whatever tied to each job. Best of both worlds! Maybe?
Chaotic aiming set is the only god damn robe there, a really ugly one too. Why am I getting a robe but not casters/healers? (or literally anyone else)
To each their own. I love seeing tanks that are in "normal" clothes (as that kinda fits with Warrior; being so angry that you can tank without any armor, and Squall never had armor on for battling with his gunblade so somewhat fits the style of gunbreaker) and have an interest in mages being geared up for battle in armor to a degree.
Hasn't this ship sailed though? the game's aesthetic has degenerated to the point where this is no longer true, and hence, a decision has to be made. Given we know the majority of the playerbase would be against restricting back up so the game looks cohesive it is better to go the other way and make it so people aren't locked out.
Leaving it as it is won't make you happy, because you already have a 60% chance of finding at least one player wearing a troll costume to a fight and it sure as heck doesn't make the majority of players happy because there are some genuine pieces that would make for a good outfit they can't use because of these restrictions.
Sure I'll give you this, in a world where tanks still looked like tanks it would make a good case to preserve this integrity, but the integrity, we can all agree, is no longer there.
When this system was being made I was against unrestricted because of the photo on the first page, but.. we have the photo on the first page so why does it matter now? May as well unlock it. The devs ruined the only reason you'd want to restrict that stuff, sans maybe artifact armor but even then.. dunno. I do feel they went 'yolo' with the presentation of our characters, already.
I would honestly prefer a cohesive image that was more carefully crafted, that ship started to sail fairly early on but was 'okay', but as of now... my god it's gone and turned to dust. I would be against the restrictions required to be added now, as it would be massive lockdowns and whiplash.
However, I do like the trust system for this reason. They're awful at their combat, but they're good for me to have a carefully crafted 'first time'. I really don't care when I've done it 100 times lol, but that first time the image on the first page would honestly ruin the visual experience.
Responding to bump this. I want to add that in lore the glamour system is an illusion. So a person isn't actually wearing the clothes we see projected. I do love that jobs have their own style but certain pieces could be used in other outfits without breaking that aesthetic. Also, we should be open to the idea of more eccentric personalities. A healer who wears full plate armor isn't outside the realm of possibility. Maybe they take on dangerous jobs and the armor is essential to their survival. And the idea peaks my interest.
Yep this is needed at this point.
