In my world, words are routinely misused, especially by corporations trying to sell you something. And marketing people never call marketing operations as such. You seem a touch naive.

What do you believe the benchmarking tool's actual purpose to be? To give you an idea of how the actual game runs, by running carefully constructed cinematics whose performance profile are unlike to resemble any actual gameplay? Or maybe to help SE collect performance data (with the same caveat) so they can optimise an entire open world game a month or so before its release? Laughable.

I don't think that pointing out that the benchmark tool exists for marketing reasons is "defending" SE in any way.

He mentioned a live letter in April at the PAX presentation, so I'm guessing that's when we'll get the benchmark.

Hmm nice to see some specs, think I come in a bit short on the min specs so might just have to call it on this game. On the plus side I can install 2 or more games in the space I held aside for this one.

CPU is an i5-8300H which I believe comes in lower in performance than the i7-7700. GPU is a GTX1050 with 4gb which would be fine for min spec there. Current game runs great on it so kind of sad if I have to give up the game at this point but it is what it is. I can't afford newer hardware at this stage and it will take me a year or two to put aside enough to even consider it.

And the game will be there and better than ever before when you can afford new hardware. Its always good to have goals

You will be able to play dawntrail just fine, maybe with some graphics turned down. Why i'm sure of it? Because Square isn't dropping PlayStation 4 support yet, and PS4 hardware is inferior to your PC. It might be not in "stable 60+ fps" territory in geometry/effects intense situations, but won't be terrible either.
