Do people really use gardening as much as you seem to think they do? I mean it's a horribly clunky system that's really only good for one or two things, all i ever grew in mine was jute, i couldn't be bothered with anything else.

Try reading back through the thread where we already discussed gardening.
Gardening is one of those love it or hate it activities. Those who like it will be doing it on a regular basis. Those who don't ignore it. At a rough guess. I'd say about 10% of house owners continue to garden after trying it out.
It is useful for more than just one or two things. The fuss over Thavnairian Onions prices makes me want to sit back with a bowl of popcorn to read and giggle because while the price per onion is high, there is more profit to be made off other items that grow faster and have no RNG in their production. Some of them can be harvested daily so there's no risk of losing anything you were growing. Miss a day of tending your onion? Wave goodbye to your time and profit.
Am I growing Thavnairian Onions? Of course not.
Honestly, a place that operates as a "front yard" of sorts, with front yard features (outdoor furniture placement, gardening, etc) would be really appreciated if they're going to keep throwing all this outdoor furniture at me. Pretty sure they mentioned wanting to do this with island sanctuary in the future, but it's hard to remember what gets actually said in announcements and live letters. I've wanted a patio for apartments for years to accomplish this task, but alas. Waited through the whole post-shb timeframe for any news at all about apartments and got nothing, not even an increase on the furniture cap.
On the topic of gardening, the only people I know who garden just do it because they like the idea of gardening. The actual gil you make from it compared to the amount of work is so bad, like just go run some roulettes and sell the tomes and you'll make more money. But the actual crossbreeding and "background activity" aspect of it is what they enjoy -- and most people will never even get to try it beyond the superficial level offered by potted plants in an apartment. When people with homes come in to tell people without homes that it's a bad system and they never would've liked it anyway, I get that maybe the intent is to make OP feel better, but it comes across like someone eating a steak and telling someone who's starving that it's fine because actually the steak really wasn't very good to begin with.
Yeah comparing gardening in a videogame with starving irl could only come from Balmung.
I would have no problem to give those, as you call them "poor starving players" a free month access to 3 gardening plots to experience the shit and clunky menu which is gardening by themselves. Bring your own seeds and soil and do what you want in this month.
That's a majority of posts on the housing forums from people who have houses. there's a lot of "you don't actually want/need one" from people who have multiple alts with multiple houses each.
There's some weird cult like mentality on here that you have to somehow "earn" or be "worthy" of having a house and somehow more people having it cheapens it, along with people saying that gardening is useless anyway, because of course they have plenty of rare materials listed on the MB that they'd prefer you buy instead of growing on your own.
I'd rather see them just change the recipes of garden items and remove and burn the whole garden system. Its garbage and SE should not waste any of their work/development time spreading this failed system to other parts of the game.
YoshiP did state this is something they're working on and starting to test. It won't be ready in 6.3 but he thinks they'll add it in 6.4.
What we don't know is if the garden patches will actually be working so players can do gardening on their Islands. We may only be able to place the furnishings.
That's why I encourage players who think they want to be gardening to get added as a tenant to a friend's house to try it out first. I even post invitations here to players to add their Coeurl characters as tenants to my house for a couple of months so they can try it out. It could be a level one alt and I'd help them transfer the supplies they'll need from their main character on another NA world, and transfer what's produced/leftover back. I'm happy to share my gardening knowledge but I won't do the work for them.
Yet strangely for all the fuss people will make in this forum about access to gardening, no one ever takes me up on my offer. That makes it look the demands for gardening access are insincere and just a way to give weight to why they should have a house.
They don't need to change the recipes. Moving the items to other sources would be better.
Thavnairian Onions could be sold by a vendor in Thavnair now that we can go there.
Things like Jute and Broombush could be on unspoiled nodes.
The rarely used items for glamours like Azeyma Rose and Pearl Roselle, or Blood Pepper/Royal Fern for minions, could be added to maps.
