And yeeh, it's incredibly frustrating how badly our total storage space is fragmented between inventory, armory, saddlebag, retainer, armoire, calamity salvager and lastly the dresser.

With a log we could pretty much do away with half of those features.

I'm 100% behind the log idea. Odds are though that the code that displays gear and handles the glamming system has calls to the instanced items (read it's not just item data but an actually "created" instance of an item since only these would have dye information for example) spread out accross multiple classes/methods ( Instead of having it all centralized in one spot) which would require quite a bit of rework.
I still think it wouldn't be that hard (relatively speaking) to have the system only create temp/persistent item instances for the glamour plates (as part of the process of applying the item to the plate preview) and give them arbitrary dye and other data if required, and then use those as it currently works. The side effect of this would be that you would not be able to retain any dye information directly in the log (aka not like the curent dresser where some items have dye on them even before you place them in a glam plate). And odds are it would be unlikely you could get an item out of the log. So you log the fact you own the item and then whatever you do with the item is final (sell it, desynth, etc.)

People who are serious about glamour want the option of playing with the full palette of possibilities or at least want the option of trying to collect everything. They are constantly having to decide whether to keep something that they obtain or destroying/discarding it because of space. Sometimes you discard something and later realize that it might have been perfect for a new idea you have, and you have to remember the name of it, where you found it, and go get it again. In a collection or log based system you don't have to keep items, the appearance is yours to play with forever.

The glamour dresser is a lot like void storage in WoW. It was meant to be where you keep gear (as well some other things) that you are not currently using so you could use it with the transmog system. It costs gold to put stuff in but it's free to take stuff out, kind of like the glamour dresser, except that the cost is a glamour prism. There was talk of having void storage interface with the transmog system much like how you can make plates from items in the glamour dresser but instead they created the collection system when once an item is soulbound to a character of the appropriate class the appearance is in an account wide collection, that can be accessed by a tranmogrifier.

If they did create a log/collection based system the glamour dresser might be changed to work differently or it would become just extra storage like void storage.

It is one of all the little details in the game, that need an overhaul. But all theses details lead me to think we more and more need a new game. Patch on a patch is one of the worst way to proceed. We come to a time there are a lot of little things that require a rewrite from scratch to be technically up-to-date.

We're victims of 1.0, they were in such hurry to rework it, that sometimes they just glued everything together and it's worked, but when later they try to change something or fix it, game just broke or making servers go down. It's no easy task to create a game almost from scratch in so little time, especially with the task of exporting characters from vanilla, the engine choice was not very good, since it began to show it's cracks very soon. Yoshi's working on FF16 right now, so maybe it will be new MMO with more flexible and streamlined engine.

IMO one thing they could do for me is allow Job Specific Sets or the Dyable versions to be stored in the Armorie like the initial ones, It would clear a ton of space out of my damn retainers inventory if they did just this.

Another thing they could do is have armor sets store multiple glamors and base them on which job is active (ie Crystarium armor will have a different look if a glamor has been applied for DRK or WAR)

Realistically I can expect there being limits to how much armor can be loaded at once but they could redesign the glamor dresser to load armor sets in blocks based on which expansion/dungeon/craft theyre from and at least have a plate available for each job/class.

What's the rule with job specific gear and the armoire? I never seem to be able to figure it out. Some AF pieces go in and some don't it's maddening. I'm assuming all augmented and dyeable gear can't go in but iirc I have some non dyeable ones that won't go in either. Antequated gear doesn't go in, weathered gear doesn't go in, The gnb outsider outfit (starter gear) doesn't go in. I'm so confused.

Are you wearing the Demon Skirt often? If so keep it. If not, ditch it. It's not a hard concept.
"But what if I want to wear it again" you may ask? I have seen so many of those skirts drop to the floor. It's not like the gear is a hot commodity right now.


Would I take a glamour log? Sure.
But I also don't see the need to hoard all items ever when they can be re-retrieved just the same.

Generally it's only the very original set of relic gear and seasonal gear that can go in the armoire. Other relic sets can be re-purchased or re-acquired in other ways.

The real problem comes with remembering what items you've parted with in the event they become a good fit with a newly acquired one.
Say you find a piece of gear you like but can't really match it up with your stuff. This could work great with some AF gear you tossed out for room but good luck remembering. So you end up tossing that new glam out because you don't use it. Then later on you find another piece that doesn't quite work with what you have but would've worked great with that glam item you threw away. Rince and repeat. It's just a bad system. I'm not one to advocate for having access to all items, the majority of items I wouldn't wear anyways. But we need a serious upgrade to the system.

And that's without mentioning the hardships that come with making glams from items both in the dresser and out of it (since we have no room) that's just terrible because we can't test dyes and stuff. A log would definitely fix this.

You've gotten upgrades. Multiple.
If you're not going to wear a majority of the game items I can't see you having inventory issues.

Again I'll take a glamour log if they implement it, but I'm also willing to tell people there's already a solution to the issue.
