Better Hairstyle choices/ Longer hairs/ No Exclusive hairs

I look at it like this- if NPC's can have long hairstyles that look good- so can players. SE threw players a bone with the dancer hairstyle but it's still lacking, especially with the weird part in the middle- if there was a toggle to have bangs or better yet, have the same hair as major NPC's like Gaia or Minfilia or Yugiri, Estinien or Fran

I haven't been in the modding community in awhile but I wasn't directly involved. It's mostly Twitter I see the modded screens of gorgeous characters. The biggest modification ive seen towards hrothgar is someone took female roe's and turned them into female Hrothgar.
It makes me wonder if any designers at SE see the major modifications mostly being really well done hairstyles & HQ skin/ eye retextures & if it puts things into perspective for them, or if they even care? Care about that their game is lacking severely in the character creating department- knowing full well alot of players focus heavily on their characters glamours so they can be immersed. Of course, there are also the players who destroy immersion & run around half-naked in a bunny head & in a metallic thong who just want different content-- but the lacking character creator makes the game seem even more dated.

--Back to your question! I'm sure trying to mod a Hrothgar's hair is a pain- I remember a modder telling someone how terrible the base model for Miqo'te actually is and all of the 'gaps' and 'holes' that are there & are incomplete which make certain alterations impossible.

NPCs aren't players though.

As in, our emotes, battle actions, ect. Those are fine tuned for them exclusively and are tweaked for cutscenes. They also add a uniqueness factor that goes beyond their clothing.

Clipping is a major issue, but for the sake of quality in presentation, I believe they don't give us what some NPCs have because they're trying to minimize it as much as possible. The engine doesn't work like other games where hair physics go over collars and can lay flat. Some battle animations might have said hair looking like an MMD video or going through our stomach.

Giving NPC's a better design shows the possibility of what players could have. Take a look at the Viera or Gaia then take another look Elezen or Hyur. The lack of detailing in the older races VS the new, even on NPC's. It is aspiring & shouldn't be shrugged off, but requested. Yes, you should have some tweaks to your Roe, like a natural flush or better lip colouring, even highlights to bring out the facial structure better.

Clipping can't be used as an excuse anymore when everything clips everything- tails clip coats, armor isn't made specifically to match each race- Horns clip head pieces, Armors clip weapons, Even Ryne & Gaia have clipping issues so if it was really an issue it would have been fixed & avoided as best as possible.
Most people whom I've discussed long hair with have said "I'll deal with the clipping, I just want longer/better hairstyles" And someone responded to me, it made me chuckle but basically "Someone requests new hairstyles? Yoshi P walks out of room & pretends he didn't see it."

You missed where I said minimizing. They know it exists, but trying to minimize it is what developers do. See every game pre 2012 where every female had short hair or buns. Some games managed it, but not all. And it's something that persists in thousands of games today. They are essentially taking the path of least resistance and given how some staff are juggling multiple roles on a tight rope called a schedule, I think what they offer with short hair is more than fine.

I just want Rainmaker to be available again. I missed out on that because I wasn't playing at the time and they've made most other things available again.

Well, to throw something slightly off into the discussion:
SE and people from the "clipping is bad"-band can argue as much as they want, that chest-long-hair is good / difficult enough, but...

Considering one specific hairstyle (which they should have added when the collab with FFXIII was a thing), I say the devs aren't even trying to expand their limits.

When the longest strands of an hairstyle are positioned in a very specific spot, you have to tell me why clipping should be such a problem. Long ponytails / pigtails surely work with the majority of outfits when we consider how normal hair - instead of a puffy-Manga-clichee-style - behaves a ka becomes slightly thinner to the tips.

The game engine is outdated and not much flexible. Dresses go through bodies, hoods through any long hair. Even basic things are flawed, swimming has micro loading when you go to the water, dragoon jump is just dash animation, not an actual jump, etc. Better just wait until they do whole new FF MMO, than waiting something get fixed on this one. They even said it for themselves, that it would be easier to create new game from scratch, than trying to upgrade this engine.

But, it'd still be great to have less exclusive hairstyles

That's fine that you think what is offered in short hair is more than fine- I don't; which is why I've made this post- for people who also agree & would like to see less NPC exclusive hairstyles
