Genuine question for those upset with the new Mentor requirements

I got the Mentor Crown, for the same reason I have a house, or do just about anything in this game. I wanted it. I don't really do anything with it anymore though, since people seem to get offended when I tell them how they are screwing up, but that might be more because of my delivery. Since I don't really care about their feelings.

I don't remember it ever being like that, maybe it was something in 1.0, never played that.

my bad, I just tested this and it seems I have never before had the crown on, I just tried it with looking to meld icon and that does vanish if you log out but the crown stays.

I got over 3500 commendations. If anything they should raise it to 2000. I've got a lot of commendations from helping people clear duties in DF. It's not so hard getting commended when it's pretty clear who made a difference, whether it's in attitude or gameplay.

I'm getting tired of people saying you could get banned for offering advice. You won't. Offering advice and forcing people to play a certain way or making sarcastic remarks on how someone sucks, are different things. Never have I gotten in problems for helping people, I mostly get thanked, commended, and sometimes ignored. It's fine. Just don't be a jerk about it.

Honestly, mentorship complaints in the game are a complete meme at this point. 99% of mentors are perfectly fine, they go about their business every day, usually stay silent because people hate to get unsolicited advice. If you ask them they'll help.

The NN are a general chat but as soon as someone has a question it gets an answer. There's occasional drama and somebody gets kicked.. what you'd expect from any game really. And that's that.

Every hundred mentors you get some ass that thinks the crown is cool and couldn't give two Fs, is a dick to everyone (newbies still learning especially). I honestly play this game more than the average player and the last time I saw a mentor fly off the handle was back when we still had cross class abilities so it makes me chuckle every time someone says the "majority" of mentors are shit.

The commendation bump is a little dumb IMO, I think the crown should be switched to something else instead (maybe just an M or a book), I also think the novice network should be opt in and not opt out.

I have a bit more than 1800 comms in 5.5 years because played as DPS for about 2 years and also had periods when barely joined any duties at all because I didn't have a mood for it.

Frankly saying, commendations, as they are at least on EU and NA, say nothing about the player. VERY often when I want to commend somebody, I only find out after loading that they left 1 sec after last boss kill. Some people commend co-parties just randomly. Some commend those who were still in duty when they opened commendation menu. Some do not commend anyone at all no matter what. It's all about luck, seriously, because it's a very subjective thing. But anyway, raising it from 300 to 1500 was a good decision, maybe.

If anything, much more important it was that they decided (as far as I noticed in 5.0 patch note at least) to get rid of clean crown and keep only those marked with PvE/PvP/Craft. Almost no one really uses them now, so those who took Mentor status solely for the crown probably will not do their recertification anyway since they will not have the object of their desire anymore. But maybe I was blind in reading and clean crown is still there.

Also I think that we should have Mentor Grades system with separate commendations that can be given by Sprouts in Novice Network and maybe after duty finishing. More commendations - higher the grade, people know that you were liked by new players with your help or welcoming attitude and patience (which every Mentor need to have imo, otherwise what do you do here to begin with).

You'll never get to 3000 if you leave right after finishing. It's the new peeps that give out commends. So wait until they finish they cutscenes, don't be impatient people!

The new system isn't going to change that. It's just going to have the old school elitists grandfathered in while keeping other plays who actually want to help out locked out for a much, much longer period of time. It'll be even more of a status symbol, basically.

This character is about 9 months old and has about 1200 comms on her, with more dps leveled than healers or tank. You might be doing something wrong.
