How are they better?
TBN isnt as good as Heart of Stone because its a 500 potency gamble that cost resources while the other is completely free. Extra mitigation doesnt make the CD better especially if you dont need it. Also if the shield breaks you dont gain anything. Its neutral. The MP you spent on TBN could have just been used for EoS.
Living Dead is worst because you have to be fully healed or you die. Superbolide can be healed to any percentage with no risk.
i don't understand the obsession behind numbers. japanese meta is: "play what you want but be good at it"
TBN doesn’t add a BONUS edge of shadow, it refunds its own cost through an edge of shadow and only if it is fully consumed. If it’s not entirely used then it COST you an edge of shadow. Meaning if the enemy isn’t going to be doing about 20k damage to your target in the next 7 seconds you shouldn’t TBN them where a GNB can use heart of stone for no cost.
I didn’t leave out shadow wall, it’s exactly the same as nebula so I omitted it and delirium doesn’t add anything other than damage so it wasn’t worth mentioning.
The key difference between living dead and superbolide is the amount of resources it takes to recover from it. Superbolide like holmgang only requires as much healing as the healers feel is necessary to keep the tank alive. Living dead requires the DRKs entire hp pool be recovered which can massively drain the resources of the healers to top them off when none of the other tanks invulns would have required that much healing.
I've played a *lot* of games, and the *meta* always starts to dictate how things are. Once the meta determines bad class is bad, people will exclude players of the bad class. It has happened in every game ever and, sadly, in a game like FF XIV (which I love) it is easy to change jobs. Anyone can become a Gunbreaker easily enough. Anyone can go from 60 to 80 in less than two weeks of dedicated level grinding.
To the harder core crowd we're already seeing, "Kicked because you don't allow your logs to be parsed." We're going to see, "Kicked because bad job is bad."
The Japanese players do this so much better than we do, generally they don't care. They are like, "Play whatever you want to play."
We're already seeking out which classes are good, better, or best. It always inevitably leads to people getting excluded because they aren't doing "the thing" and it just saddens me is all.
I won't do them because:
1. I play what I want, even if what I want is technically near the top of the slot for my role in the meta. (I play Paladin.)
2. I don't allow my logs to be parsed. I can go down a list of my rotation detailing exactly which second I use what ability to have maximum or near maximum efficiency - but I don't let others see my math. I've seen players rejected just for that reason.
I guess I just don't get it. The worst class in the meta, with a decent player, can clear the hardest content. Hardcore raids always overestimate what is needed to complete a segment.
It just always leads to exclusion.
Except you only use TBN when you know you're going to be taking enough damage to gain the dark arts from it. Heart of stone is a flat damage reduction % TBN is a flat damage reduction of 20% of the DRKs hp.
But hey what do i know i only use TBN to reduce incoming tank buster damage when i know its needed. And spam EoS when its not.
Personally, I believe the Meta can go screw itself. All it does is foster tryhards who don't want to think for themselves, slavishly playing what a few loud voices say is best. And mimic what others say is wrong with x job word for word.
I duo heal Savage with a good friend of mine, and she's now freaked out because people expect 7k+ dps from her WHM now because someone on reddit or whateverdecided those are the numbers now..
And here I am solo healing Titania and Innocence on my garbage Ast :D
