I have to say, this is kinda the only change I can remember that really seems like a step backward to me. Sure, it makes the loot distribution more "fair" for the group, but it destroys an individual player's chances at getting a loot piece they might be needing. Up until now, if you needed specific role gear, or wanted a specific glamour, (unless your group happened to match 4 of the same DPS as you) if that loot dropped, you can most likely get it. Now, not only do you have to play the odds of the loot dropping, and rolling against other players in your role, but now everyone wanting to trade that gear for GC seals.
Imagine if this was applied to the EX Primals or something. "Oh good, the WHM weapon dropped. Well, that's a great upgrade for me, and- Oh, the SAM won the Greed role."
At this point, why not just make the chests drop the gear into a random player's inventory, like the potion drops.
