they never were tbh. there are easy work around last i played this was around wrath into cata. gotta think of the gatherers. do you really want them to be on permanent stealth? ya try getting to an unsoiled node only to be 1 shot, it isn't funny.

bad enough lvl 50 hunt mobs prowl around lvl 10 leveling areas and no one helps kill them.

It is just a rogue dungeon crawler. Random rooms with random chests with items that help you to survive.
Maybe they copied from Nyzul Isle, but then Nyzul Isle is also a copy from any rogue dungeon crawler. XI have not invented that sub-genre.

1.0 failed because it took the ff11 races (their words not mine) and made am mmo that was 100% different from ff11. it failed because the engine used was crystal tools which is more for solo rpg.

it failed because instead of making leveling fun, you get punished for it. it didn't have jobs or classes but build archtypes that we had to level everything to customize a job.

everything was tied to a timer or mini game. look up the fatigue system on youtube. ff11 NEVER had that.

if you do research, the beta for 1.0 was A MESS. canceled dates, errors, and a rushed launch. the devs admitted they just didn't care, they was like "shrug" just put final fantasy name on it it will sell. (their words not mine)

do not even get me started on the holiday events........... that dumb holiday bell was such a slsp in the face. ff11 holiday events were tons better.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow your role there, that is a pretty huge jump from what I originally said. Now you're just putting words where there are none and changing the tone of what I originally said. What I am hating on, as you so adequately put it, is the comparisons that because WoW did it great, FFXIV should absolutely do it. That is what I am hating on, friend. And I believe I did say that I don't mind the occasional comparison that doesn't come in the form of the complaint.

True...however, it is still a Final Fantasy game, and personally, I think borrowing from prior work is alright. I haven't personally played FFXI, but from what I hear, yes, I agree, there are some things from that title that could be lifted to here. As long as it doesn't create another Diadem-level disaster.

Uhm...no. And again, I have to restate, what WoW is doing is working for that MMO. Doesn't mean it'll work here in FFXIV. I'll admit, I didn't realize that the devs looked to WoW for some inspiration. That's fine. I didn't post this only because of the guy complaining about FATEs. I've seen this pop up lately about as often as those posts claiming 'Square is discriminating against Dyslexia'. If the devs see something nice, they shouldn't copy-paste it to FFXIV.

How can you have such strong opinions about a game (I'm assuming) you haven't played to any great degree - if at all? Makes this whole thread completely pointless.

I feel like it's certainly at best a stretch and at worst a misrepresentation to say that Kavia has "strong opinions" on WoW based on this thread alone. From what I can tell she has strong opinions on FFXIV staying the unique MMO that it is and that has lead to it's success.

The WoW influence on FFXIV will always be there in the same way Apple influenced Andriod or any major competitors in a market have an effect on the other's direction. When it comes to any product it is the differences that help us isolate the one we want.

If the dev team took every "WoW did this, do this here" suggestion that has been posted on the forum to heart we would be playing WoW with a FF theme to it by now. I don't want that, I don't believe the OP wants that and I don't believe that consititutes "strong feelings" on WoW.

Kavia I hope I didn't misrepresent what you are arguing here, I think this is an important thread and I'm glad someone made it. I don't think you have to hate WoW to not want FFXIV to be heavily influenced by it as I happen to both be fascinated by WoW (though unable to play it as I only have a PS4) while moving the current iteration (more or less) of FFXIV.

Literally no one is asking the devs to implement things exactly the same way they are in WoW, I don't think anyone in their right mind would want that rng fest for gearing up. What you're missing is conveyed here, here, here and in several other posts.

Read specially the last one, when someone asks for a feature that exists in WoW the reasoning is not "it's in WoW and it must be here", if people ask for mythic+ like dungeons they are asking for more difficulty settings for dungeons and using WoW as an example, they aren't asking for it to work exactly like M+. When people ask for sub token there's an intent to curb bot-farmed RMT and to give people different ways to play the game, not "WoW has it and it must be added here".

It looks more like if WoW has it, FFXIV absolutely shouldn't add it, because your original post is a blanket dismiss to anything WoW has, leaving zero room for consideration if something could be adapted in a way to fit this game.

You're doing it too - how can you know that you don't want things to be more or less like WoW when you, by your own admission, haven't played it.
Anyway - here's an example of what I think you (and others) who dislike WoW (in principal at least it seems) should be worried about:

Class homogenization: This is a big one for modern-era WoW. Crowd-crontrol out the window, all classes can basically do the same thing: "Bring the player not the class" mentality. Class buffs gone (racial buffs went years ago). This is creeping into FFXIV - first with the removal of allocated stats and cross-class skills... that's the first step and something that I, and you, should be concerned about.
