Why I have no interest in Coils more specifically, T9.

I'm curious. What do people think "skill" means?

To become skillful at something requires learning and practice. You learn the rotation of a boss, how to handle it, then practice it till you conquer it by (hopefully) making no mistakes.

FF14, from my experience, is not very different from most MMO's. What probably makes it feel the most different is the long gcds, so the game can sometimes feel more proactive than reactive. Then there are the punishing instant kill/wipe mechanics that are much more prevalent in this game than most. On another note, there are some boss moves that require you to react extremely quick and can come as a surprise because of RNG. Wild charge, t10/11 tethers, thunderstruck/2 stack of fire, megaflare(the third part of it), earthshaker, redfire(sorta), and to some extent sharing the stacks before rage of bahamut are a few RNG mechanics I can think of that are reactive.

I for one enjoy learning a scripted fight. As a scholar, I feel these are the encounters where I can excel the most. Learning the boss' rotation to minimize overheal and maximize dps is fun for me. If I'm in the mood for something more dynamic, I log off and play something else.

Because that's how vertical progression works. Newer content is designed around a higher item level, and the Crystal Tower series is meant to assist in the gearing up for tackling those raids. Also, you don't put highest tier gear ONLY in the raids.

Another thing to remember is gear isn't indicative of skill. There are people toting i130 Augmented Ironworks and maybe Zetas that can be outperformed by someone in i90. Gear doesn't carry you through raids that require teamwork and personal skill (T5 anyone?).

Well it is a multiplayer games the best way to beat content is to make friends and progress on that content together.

I still don't see why T9 has some a strict dance routine, since nothing in Crystal Tower or Main Scenario is this unforgiving, and as I said, WoD gives stronger equipment while actually being fun. And for all the talk about coil is supposed to be "hardcore," the quest log and duty finder pages for the Coils turns made absolutely no effort to indicate it wasn't casual content like 95% of everything before it, so you can't expect people to not take offense at the difficulty. At least the Extreme primals let you know up front it's going to be harder.

Umm if you go study a guide and watch a video 5 times you're going to "KNOW" T9 just like a classroom book. But then when you actually try T9 you will quickly see that you still need to be able to react to the mechanics that you know and focus at all times to make sure you don't cause a raid wipe by derping.

It's a combination of focusing, reacting and understanding that leads you to victory. Just 'knowing' the fight like a classroom book isn't going to help you until you are skilled enough to react to the mechanics.

I mean I've solo healed T9 before, phase 4 begins and you got first favor starting up, gotta rush to heal the tank while rushing to group to the party then count the first 2 fires, watch for lightnings and be ready to move away in case someone isn't moving with lightning from tunnelvisioning, then after fire in you gotta spread out, watch for 2 super novas, dart to the center to take thermionic, then you gotta heal the raid while remember to virus Nael and prepare for her ninja-bahamut's favor and sometimes I get hit with thunder at that moment and gotta have the reaction and focus to get away from group and still keep healing the tank.

I'm sorry I just can't agree with you that T9 is all about 'knowing' the fight not about 'reacting' to the fight.

There are two levels of difficulty going on here:

1: Adhering to the mechanics.
2: Reacting to the mechanics.

Understanding the mechanics and being able to react to them is a form of 'skill'. It may stand to reason that you do not consider this skill, but I do. If you could beat all fights simply from reaction without understanding anything that is going on well... you get the majority of non coil content :P Coils take it up a notch and require you to understand what is going on and knowing how to react to the mechanics in ways that work best for your party.

For example: Golems in T9

You can drop them in the center circles, you can drop them against the wall. Meteor placement in phase 1 can be anywhere you want. The back walls are just the easiest to deal with. There's about a million ways you can handle the mechanics, it just requires you as a team to do your job.

Let me ask you, as a BB/Souls fan: Did you beat O+S on your first attempt? How about the Undead Dragon? Now what about whatever the name of that dual sword wielding guy with the 2 dogs? I'm using Dark Souls bosses as examples because I haven't gotten too far into BB and also I've heard lots of people feel like BB is too easy. Like DS2 felt too easy, you could beat many bosses on your first try.

For one, WoD came out AFTER T9 did, WoD came out after T13 did. So that complaint isnt really valid. Also, you originally had to have a premade party to even enter coil, as you do with the current raid. They weren't even IN DF to begin with.

Seriously, I feel like the people that complain about these things like the OP are just mad because they went in, tried & failed but instead of trying again they go, "This is stupid! >_<" and come here to complain.

I find coil to be challenging for XIV's gameplay style just like Dark Souls/Bloodborne are for their play style.
If you don't like XIV's then there are plenty of other MMO's (or single player cause that sounds more like what you want) out there.
