No it isn't fair...why should new players be on the same footing with players who have been playing longer? ...might aswell just boost all new players to max level and give them all end game gear aswell...if you join an mmo that has already been running for a considerable amount of time you have to expect to start at the bottom and work your way up, otherwise what's the bloody point

this ^ there will be some sort of mechanic added to help players catch up with older content giving a nerf n mayb even a lower ilvl requirement and as for the older dungeons players will still do them even if its only via roulette etcbut guarantee when 3.0 comes around every single player wont be even stevens so to speak

There seems to be a big misconception what is "fair" in regards to new players playing catch up in regards to the relic. Relics do not take that long to do now compared to how they were originally and will get even easier as time goes on. Just like with raid and trial content, things get easier, but players are still expected to learn and endure everything from square one. People new to the relics or ones who are still struggling are getting a break, but they still have to put in some effort to complete them. That in itself is fair.


No one says anything about armor being outdated because there's another one next patch that you can get almost on the day the patch goes live and there's always 2 or 3 new ones released every patch, whether by raid rewards or from the new crafting recipes. Relics take time to complete and they are not going to be "reset" come 3.0. From what I seen, weapons don't get updated as much as armor does in every patch. Ignoring the relics and coil weapons, the tomestone based weapons have only been gaining power by every 10 levels. (even the relics have been going at the same pace, just with later patches). And since the character level cap is only going from 50 to 60, I don't think weapons are going to be outdate that quickly unless the devs have been working on a new system we don't know about.

Also, as I understand it, the zodiac weapon is supposed to be the fully upgraded version of the relic weapon. It isn't a new weapon. Just one that is completed the total upgrade process.

mostly because it's your weapon, it was forged, reforged, upgraded, nothing forbid them to change it more and more. the relic is like the ultimate weapon of your jobs. it will be sad to simply start a new quest when we have already one there. it will be great if they do this.


an important point, the new player can simply get the weapon from raid or dungeon, i feel the relic must always continue, it will be a choice for the player to do it or not. it will long and tedious, but it will be an amazing way to add a feeling of progression inside your jobs outside the level up throught the relic weapon.

i think we wont know whats gonna happen until 3.1 is released just like yoschi said it in his interview. while he said that the relic would GROW with power with the player that basicly says nothing directly. since the real question people wanted an answer about was not asked by the famitsu interviewer and that would be this one :

is the old relic from 2.0 NEEDED to acces the 3.1 relic quest? yes/no ? THAT is the important question here for now. and that is one yoschi p didnt give an answer too yet anywere.

i have a zodiac weapon aswell with me and as much as i like it with 3.0 ill probaly switch to DRK as my new main just because SWORD > AXE. but if this would force me to redo EVERYTHING just because i wanna play a diffrent job then i wouldnt bother doing it again atleast not in its current form. the zodiac rng is just to cruel currently.


also guys keep in mind that tombstones wont exist at lvl 50 anymore likely once 3.0 hits since up to this date tombstones could only be farmed at max lvl which is 60 then. sold is getting scrapped anyway since it would be if there was a 2.6 anyway. but tombstones are NEEDED on relic quest so how would that work then? all questions nobody knows the answer about yet. this patch 3.0 will be totally diffrent from what most of you have ever had till now so you cannot threat it the same way as old updates. a lvl cap raise is a chance and a curse at the same time sadly. it has massive downsides one of which ALWAYS was old content beeing no longer of use or beeing played at all.

its also very likely that the storyquests that were put into the game after 2.0 launch wont be needed to unlock any story quests from heavensward at all as they are a all lvl 50 and give no exp at all and some of em REQUIRE a way higher ilvl than most new players would have access to at lvl 50 unlike now were there is tons of veterans who are carrying many new people. its just not practical. if it would be the case SE would have to HEAVLY swing the nerfbat around with 3.0 on old content. means nerfing everything into the ground which is WORSE then letting people skip it because it REMOVES an option to play old challenging content completly from the game.

You mean like aside from the fact that this is a totally new expansion? Even in other games, every player new or old, starts off the expansion on equal footing. Yes, a brand new player will not start off at the previous max level or with that ilvl gear, but I'm not suggesting that this happens. Only that a totally new relic quest line for the expansion would be equal to all players.

A question, does it seem logical to you that we would have to upgrade a weapon that is 10 levels under us in the expansion? It seems rather odd that we would be asked to dig out something that would likely be used as glamour at that point to upgrade it to a level 60 weapon.

Also, I am all for having a job specific weapon. Had those in EQ when I played. Loved the idea. And yet in the grind that was that game, it was still far easier to obtain your class weapon that it is in this game to just upgrade your weapon from one stage to the next. Also add to this that the upgrade is marginal, at best, to the previous stage. The work does not seem to reflect the reward that one would get.

Yes, a new player can always get a weapon from some where else. There are trials, raids, and tomes (when available). But it seems odd that we would tell that new player that they cannot get their job specific weapon unless they are willing to trudge through content that, at that point, 99% of the population is no longer doing. Thus making the current time it would take to finish each stage of the relic even more compounded.

I am all for there always being a relic quest for players to do. I am all for it taking some time to get. I understand that you, and others, would be sad and or upset if they went with a totally new quest line. However, isn't that the nature of this genre? Don't we already have a succession of gear progression? Does the new raid gear not make the old no longer as desirable? The turn five weapons were replaced by the turn nine weapons, etc.
