Lost 3m for the DC，SE you win, I quit this game

I too have frequent 90k issues and as such will never craft anything serious. I only levelled my GSM for Ehcatl quests and fixing my own accessories.

It is fun, and I am sad to give up on it so easily, but I am not willing to sacrifice millions of gils so I could say I crafted something.

Professional Software Developer here. Let me see if I can explain why the seemingly "easy" feature of auto-resume crafting would be rather difficult/dangerous to implement. Broadly speaking, the first task would be to decide where to store the save data. Here, you have two options:

Client
Effectively, after every crafting action, the game would need to save the state of the current craft to your hard drive, so if you DC/crash, you can resume the craft. The major issue with this is one of exploits. If I'm saving the state locally, anyone with sufficient knowledge can alter the save data to give themselves an advantage. Time for Byregot's Blessing? Hack the file to say I had an excellent condition! Given the advantage this would give people, it's safe to say that this is probably not an acceptable solution, so on to the next option.

Server
After each crafting action, persist that information to the server. This increases the amount of load on the servers and network as they need to be constantly saving data and lord knows those poor servers are already crying. Additionally, this will potentially increase the amount of time that every action you take on a crafting project, since the server now needs to do verify that it's saved the state to let you continue. Overall, this feature would either a.) Require beefier servers to be purchased to account for additional load (prolly should happen anyhow) or b.) Everyone logged in during peak times will get a worse experience because already stressed servers are being pushed even harder.

Other Misc. Issues
1.) Food/FC Buffs - How do these get saved? What happens when you resume after the timers should have worn off. How does this affect the rest of the game as food buffs get used in all levels of content.
2.) Macro execution - What do I need to save if a DC happens mid-macro? Should the entire macro be saved? What happens if the next login occurs on a different machine that doesn't have that macro? Do the servers need to start storing user macros as well.
3.) Patches - What happens if the DC happens right before a patch and something related to the recipe happens with the patch (difficult changed, HQ'ing made possible, etc...)? How do you reconcile progress made with the old recipe on the new one? Do you just throw away all stored progress on each patch?

TLDR: Programming is hard, much harder than most people think.

The entire game world state is stored on the server and is managed by the server and server alone. The client is trusted to manage as few states as possible, and definitely nothing like crafting progress. If they trusted the client to handle the crafting progress, steps and whatever, that would have been hacked within hours of release.

Server just needs to save the player & buff state and restore it upon reload. You wouldn't be able to touch that unless you hacked the server.

They *could* do something tricky where the server pretends you didn't disconnect and leave you in a completely static state within the game world. Just prevent the relevant buffs/food/whatever from ticking down. This would at least keep the crafting state unless the server shuts down (a much less frequent issue and usually predictable issue) without needing to add additional data (even if it could be temporary) to the character database. Although it's a little bit of a hack, so it's not the most desirable solution.

Hey, so just a quick thing about the dc problem 'cause it seems like OP's issue with the dc's is not just the mats they lost. They couldn't do any other aspect of the game either. Anyways, point being there is a thread for it http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ated-90k-error. The most annoying part is it's 22 pages long at this current moment in time and still no response from any mods.
