How would you break it to someone that their DPS is awful?

I don't say anything to anyone in a pug about their performance generally as since I don't know them and they don't know me, it's not likely to go anywhere good. For a static group however, these are people you hopefully look forward to doing stuff with week after week. Personally I'd just sit down and talk to him respectfully the way you'd want to be talked to if you had room to improve. If you know anyone of the same class who could give him pointers, that could also help. If he throws a fit and leaves, I hate to say it but you're probably better off.

You're not going to be dealing over 100 less DPS by being 10 ilvls under. That's just incompetence.

No. The OP posted Damage Per Second, which can be compared to any other player on any other server. Less than 200 dps on T9 is totally unacceptable and would royally piss me off if someone in my static was doing 200. In this case its less than 118, which is horribad. There is no relative measure here.

If they are a physical DPS and they use a controller it might be something as simple as them not using the lock-on and losing out on a lot of auto attacks if the fight is very movement-heavy. It could also be them getting nervous or focusing too much on dodging/mechanics which has been the case with some people I have played with. It helps to have someone that can play the class well watch them and see what they may be doing wrong and offering suggestions. If you are unsure that said person can give advice without being insulting it would also be good for them to relay the information to someone that can. Some people will just flat out ignore and get mad at criticism so hopefully that is not the case.

You suggest they MT for the cycle while your current MT plays dps. I mean it's only fair

Two conditions have to be met for me to say anything:

1) I have to have intimate knowledge of how you are screwing it up and how to fix it.
2) You have to be SERIOUSLY screwing it up.

As such, I don't usually pipe up for any class other than Monk's, because they are what I know best.

Honestly, it's pretty hard to screw MNK up. Worst I've had is bickering with another MNK over who would be on Dragon Kick duty.

Again, can you say how much of this bad DPS is because of lack of gear and how much is because of actual lack of fingers?
