A marauder is essentially a Viking. But without the Nordic cultural context.

Yes. Because people have time to level yet another class (YAC(tm)).
If you are noob, more leveling won't help you play better. It's just more hassle and harashment to other people.
If you are smart, you will get instant level cap, and learn to play anyway.
Anyway. I don't like specialized job idea. It's pointless step back from what here is it now.
They would better remove wepon-class binding, and let anyone wield anyweapon they like. With let's say weapon-specific skills.
And left current classes as Skills. User action from that skill = gain experience in that skill = profit.
And moreover, instead of adding specialization to current skills.. simply add more skills.
And on top of that, add add specization that need serval skills leveled to some point.
And yet some people seem to know everything about the mechanics of the job system that has been just slightly touched upon in conversations. Funny.
Anyway, to the people who think PUP was a cop out, screeeeew you. (Kidding, sorta). Puppetmaster was my favorite job.
Anyway, yes. I do believe the Lamia race were indeed necromancers for all intensive purposes. I suppose they might have been hard to add in ffxi, but the skies the limit with 14. I could totally see them maybe adding in(if they do indeed start requiring more than 1 class for certain jobs) THM and perhaps a pet-based job that will come in the future creating Necromancer.
...I..really don't care now, I just want Puppetmaster again! /cry
I think that SE has kind of screwed themselves either way they go with BLM and WHM.
I see your point but the issue with THM becoming WHM is that first off THM's have none of the traditional WHM abilities (Cures, Protect, Shell, etc) All of these Defining skills are found on CON. And aside from that, for anyone who has played through ANY of the THM quests, it is easy to see that it definitely does NOT fit with WHM. THM's are basically cultists, lol.
See now to me this makes perfect sense, but then the issue of BLM comes up again. As SE has mentioned there will only be one Job per Class, so if CON did get WHM, THM would get BLM? This also doesn't make much sense, while THM has a lot of skills you would generally see on BLM (Bio, Posion, Blind, etc.) CON again has the real Job Defining Skills for BLM, the elemental spells (Fire, Thunder, Blizzard, etc.)
The way SE has divided up the concepts of BLM and WHM, or at least the traditional Job defining skill sets, between CON and THM really makes difficult either way you go.
I personally am happy they are bringing in jobs, but ONE per class doesnt really work with the current classes, imo.
CON should have had the option to unlock BLM or WHM, THM (while a fantastic healer) seems to me to be more of an en-feebler, and I would have seen it as more of a RDM.
Anyway, guess we'll just have to wait and see which direction they decided to take!
I agree that with the current skill set it is very hard to see THM or CON as BLM and WHM respectively. But they said they were redifining classes in a significant way so maybe we will see the elemental spells go over to THM? THM would then feel like BLM and CON could have dia, banish, regen, etc.
Or maybe they will split the elemental nukes, CON could get the "astral" nukes like Fire, Ice and Wind and THM would get the "umbral" nukes like stone, water, lightning. Then they said in the future there could be jobs that requires more than one class like RDM = THM + CON... anyways as I am saying this I realise that however we turn it, there is still something weird about those two classes and I think it is best to just wait and see the changes they did.
See now the problem with them splitting up the skill sets like that though is it then no longer fits in with the Lore surrounding each class. The functionality of each class/job is obviously important, but the Lore is damn important as well, they have to find a way to make it work for both... should be interesting...
