The only time I get mad about an early LB is if we're learning a fight and there's a good chance we'll need the rez later (the farther we can get, the better, even if we're not going to clear, or if we're going to clear just before enrage, it's at least a clear versus knowing we always die at "x mechanic".)

Otherwise? Pick the best time between mechanics and let it go. Then you have the chance to build another one back up and get just that much more damage in.

Same. The only time's I get annoyed is when I'm in learning/clear parties for Raids and we're either dealing with new mechanics, or the party has proven allergic to keeping themselves alive. There's been a few Extremes I've been a part of where certain mechanics would wipe the party almost consistently but some DPS decided 'HEY LET'S USE THIS' even as things are going pear shaped. I'm under no illusions with Extremes that the healer LB3 would actually save a run most of the time, but even just a few more minutes of experience to work on mechanics can make all the difference in making sure the next attempt might work out.

Other than that? I see LB's get held so often that if the boss is at his last percentile and it's easy content, I'll just pop it myself for the sake of screenshot fodder. Might as well make some use of it if nobody is going to use it when it actually matters, since the animation often takes longer than it takes to chip off that last 1%.

Oh though, speaking of LB3s. Somehow I managed to die in the middle of the rez LB3 the other night on a Suzaku run and I... rezzed myself with my own LB3.

I'm still not sure how that happened, but I'm also not going to complain. I think I have a knack of hitting things just at the "how the f***" right moment - I was running through the entrance into the trash pull pre-Cid the other night in Orbonne at the exact second that the portal closed - and it killed me and spit me out. (There's no one shot mechanic on those mobs and no way it could have been the battle.)

I've been killed by a barrier in the same way. Ran through at the last second, was inside the arena, then suddenly dead.

I wonder what the actual mechanism is. The barriers aren't normally instant-kill if you touch them.

As a rule, I don't do this personally. I'll dps LB at the last 10% fine, but even in competent 390+ Seiryu farm parties that I've just witnessed kill the boss flawlessly 3 times, a sudden mess up that leaves 6 players dead is highly possible. I see it all the time. I've seen it 3 times in the last week. It doesn't even matter if it's "easy" content like a Shinryu normal or Rabanastre or something, a pug can mess it up.

In these cases, not using lb3 earlier so the healer has access to it absolutely saves the run. It's not worth the risk just to shave a few seconds off the time unless you're cutting enrage tightly.

I guess I'm speaking from a non-PF/pug viewpoint where I have a mostly-static group doing ex/savage runs and we all know that we've got something on farm, so if we somehow do need the LB3 to rez everybody then we've backslid *massively*. Otherwise, I can definitely see this. And in the long run, I don't get mad if the DPS doesn't use it until the last 10% - but I also won't gripe if they use it early if we know we're clearing.

As HyoMin said, I was being sarcastic - but I was never implying that they would be doing that in Lv70 content as a healer, rightly or otherwise. The original story noted that the run-ahead healer had a level 70 tank.

So, quite seriously I could see that happening. Someone with a "me first" mindset and/or no idea about party roles initially picks a tank. They lead everything and nobody complains or tries to overtake them. All the way to Lv70, they're running ahead because they want to go first and be in charge, and it's only fortunate coincidence that their job is to go first and be in charge.

And then they decide to level a healer....

Square Enix really needs to teach people mechanics better. Had a new healer in A12N and they ran away with the stack marker not once, but twice. Dying the first time didn't make that mechanic apparent. It's a shame too since they seemed pretty okay.

Which makes me ask since I don't really remember: Just how many times has this mechanic appeared before Alexander? I know of nidhogg where it matters and Xelphatol where it... doesn't. Was there any other instances?

Pretty sure the game teaches players to do stack marker correctly in main scenario duties now.. but i dont know if it will still do any good with their new upcoming product.. The SB story skipping potion~

As far as I remember, the stack marker as we currently know it first appeared in the trial against Thordan, though this might just be me confusing it with Thordan ex (It is definitely in there), in which case Gordias would be the most likely instance(dont remember if it actually was in there). As for other instances between that and Nidhogg, sephirot/sephirot ex has it as well. Im pretty sure Xelphatol is the first time it is used in a dungeon. Ozma in the Weeping City may have used the marker IIRC.

Stack mechanics however have been in the game since at latest Turn 5 of the Binding Coil of Bahamut.

Before the current stack marker it was not at all clear when you need to stack though. Like at the second boss of Sohm Al. How are you supposed to know that you need to stack for red marker but run away from blue marker? Old content has about five differently colored markers which are used for different mechanics seemingly randomly.

Ozma doesn't have stack markers. But the final boss of Void Ark does, and I think that's the first time most of us encountered them. At least I remember so many people running away with it when it was new.

I'm 79.54% sure that Ozma does have a stack marker. I don't remember when it happens but I seem to have some fuzzy images in my head of getting it and having to reposition to share the love with as many party members as possible. Connected to those memories are also some vestiges of annoyance at having to reposition to chase the occasional someone who doesn't want to share.

Yeah,im surprised stuff like prey and stack markers,which appear quite frequently from heavensward onward,weren't added to the novice tutorial yet.

I mean sure some msq dungeons and trials will show you those but newbies won't know what it is until they see everyone else run inside them.

Current stack marker appeared as early as Void Ark (appears during Echidna), in terms of “casual” content. I don’t think Thordan normal had a stack marker (and it’s so easy that, sadly, it wouldn’t matter much if it did)—EX did, though.

It does—you stack up for a shared meteor that gives a brief magic vulnerability iirc. I think it happens during Square phase. Would have to double check though, because it may be Triangle... I feel like I remember instances of the stack coming out while the bleed from Triangle phase is also out.

Meteor is his stack mechanic according to MSQCapture. I haven't gotten Mhach for awhile in Alliance roulette so I had to look it up to double check myself. The stack marker happens after the Ozma Shade transition but when it goes off seems pretty varied, even when it was new content.

The first stack marker in content required by the main story is Nidhogg in the Final Steps of Faith. But it doesn't tell you to stay stacked until he's done spamming it, so people still run off after the first hit and get splattered on a regular basis. Especially since he pauses after the first hit.

Since it has also been a long time since I entered, does the marker appear anywhere within Midas at all?

Brute Justice has it in A8 normal.
I sadly remember struggling with it when it came out. >.>

In this past week I experienced people running away with the stack marker in O12 normal and Nidhogg in Trial roulette. The Nidhogg example is understandable since that's likely the first instance new players see the marker as they often don't do the old optional content. It is strange how often players in current content don't recognize it though.

Leveling PGL on my alt cause I am tired of grinding SCH to 70 on her today.

Decided to run Halatali since I'm level 21.

The first run is slow and inefficient, but overall everything goes fine. Two of them are Green-leafs, and one is a returner.

The second run, I thought would be better, two Green-leafs and a level 61 WHM, with SCH to 60 and with BRD to 70. I thought for sure this would be better.

I was so wrong. Firstly we load in and no one does anything for a while. After a couple of mins I decide to run through the hall to the first set of adds. Everyone follows me asap like a little group of lost ducklings.

The tank runs in and starts hitting one mob and the healer heals aggro off of them, then proceeds to not even attempt to get aggro back.

After we kill the mobs I stop to type "Make sure you Flash for group aggro -Tanks name-"

They run ahead and no one says anything, so I add. "Healer should not be taking aggro"

The healer replies. "not trying too"

and so I clarify. "It's not your fault, they're not using flash"

We're doing the next set and the healer jokes. "Ill tank. lol"

I speak to the tank again. " -Name-, do you understand what you need to do?"

We're continuing on group by group and they're not doing anything to hold aggro. I have a mob, the healer has a mod, the BRD has a mob. Everyone seems to have a mob except the tank.

The BRD gets fed up. "please use flash. i shouldn't be getting aggro with one attack." and then the healer says "-Name-. Please ask questions. We here to help you."

Nothing. Nada. Silence. I look at their player info, and since I'm on PS4, I notice they are too.

I auto translate as we get to the group at the stairs. "Flash" "Can I have it."

Nothing. We kill the mobs without a single sign they'll do anything.

So I give a final warning as we're on the stairs. ":3 Please give us some sign you will do your job -name-"

Nothing. They run in pull the boss.

And the BRD proceeds to tank it. I don't know what moves they were spamming, but it wasn't generating aggro. The BRD had aggro and I'm right under them in the enmity list. The tank is lower than the healer on the list.

The BRD goes "-name- plz" and when the fight ends I just boot them. No more questions. I don't care if they're new. What fool carried them through Sastasha, copperbell and tam tara and let them think it was ok? That's not happening today.

That's not the last thing about this run that gets me either.

I go through the fire after the boss and wait for them to follow as the DF is filling the queue. No one comes behind me, so I figure we're waiting.

We decide in the chat to keep going, but the WHM and BRD are still not behind me. A WAR queues in and we greet him, and he shows up, and I'm like. WHERE ARE THE OTHER TWO?

Then I see a name plate sticking through the wall.

THE BARD AND THE WHITE MAGE RAN ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE GATE THAT THEY CANNOT GO THROUGH.

The tank tells them to return and use the shortcut. I'm face palming.

We do the next pulls like a dream. Tank is double pulling, everything is going fast.

Then we get to the second boss.

I think everything is gonna go fine.

The water lights up and I notice the WHM is just... Walking around... Letting their HP tick down.

By the time I realize they're gonna let themselves die, it's too late but I still type. "You need to get out of the water."

They die and me, the WAR and the BRD do the fight without them.

They return and run back and complain to us. "Wont let me in.."

.__. Wut. Of course it won't let you in. It says before every fight...

AREA WILL BE SEALED IN 15 SECONDS

I just reply "if you die you can't come back into a boss fight."

The rest of the run is quiet other than the chorus of thanking each other at the end.

My healer salt is spilling into ever facet of my game experience lmao.

(Note: I recorded this video on my PS4 and I shall now do a running play by play of the proceedings as I review them)

So I managed to get a rage quit of a healer and tank in Stone Vigil.
I've already done my levelling roulette for the day but I've been pretty bored all round for the day so I think to myself to just continue levelling up my Ninja. It won't take long and its a pretty swell sorta dungeon. I've only just hit level 41 so I feel confident.

Queue takes a little bit and it pops twice unsuccessfully before finally going through.

Party is a WAR, WHM, BLM and me (NIN).
I say my usual friendly hello and only the tank responds. It doesn't really matter but its just nice to be courteous.

As soon as everyone loads in the WHM is viewing the cutscene so I check on if the others have levelled any other classes.
WAR is Lvl 46 and has several classes to 70. DRK, WHM, DRG, RDM and all of their crafters and gatherers to 70. Nice.
WHM is new. Lvl 54 with SAM unlocked at 50 and only MNK to lvl 33. Everything else is pretty much blank.
BLM is Lvl 41 but has WAR, SCH/SMN to 70 and the crafters mixed in the mid 40s to 60.

I think to myself, okay. People who have done this before. Maybe the WHM will struggle a little but, that's to be expected. I am a WHM main so I can help them whenever they can.

WHM gets out of the cutscene, casts protect, WAR goes into tank stance and off we go.
From the time the WAR pulls to when he is laying on the floor... is 18 seconds.

The first Cure II that the WHM cast, hit the WAR for 259 health. When he originally has 3500 HP. The first hit that the WAR took was a 421 Crit.
The two Cure II and two Cure's that the WHM gave to the tank healed him for a total of about 820 health. Kinda why he went down like an elephant on a meteor.
He types in the chat "lolwut"

Because I'm DPSing like only a NIN can, I have all the aggro. I try my best to get the first dragon down before I'm overwhelmed. But unfortunately, I'm overcome pretty much straight away with only 1600 health. I try to make the best of a bad situation by typing "Reset. Start again lol." Followed by "Take two. Take two is always the best take"

The Healer is then shocked as to why their heals were dealing out Cure's that were so low. The healer says in chat "My heals are only healing for 30".
It is this point that I check the gear of the healer. And... everything checks out ok. Healer gear from when you complete the level 50 quest. Level 45 weapon but its still high enough for this dungeon at least.
While I am checking the WHM's gear. They leave the dungeon. Nothing was said after the "healing for 30" comment from the WHM.
The tank now chimes in with "... What the hell?"
Well now I at least have time to check the gear of the WAR. Level 41 weapon. Okay. Good so far. Mix of 45 and 40 gear on the left with a level 32 belt. Not bad, lets take a look at his right si- Oh its all grey.
The iLvl 5 weathered ring (Oh god... now I see who the problem is), the Lvl 1 "Brand New Ring" (iLvl 30), Lvl 18 Bracelets, iLvl 5 Weathered Choker and iLvl 20 earrings.
The WHM has every right to be salty. Their lowest level item that the WHM was wearing (a Lvl 49 ring) had more stats than 3 of his accessories.

I am about to type something to the tank about their accessories to see if they have any other jewellery in their armoury chest since they have a DRK to 70, maybe there was something still laying around in there.
But the BLM chimes in with "do a small pull and we'll burn them b4 you die."
Now I am normally a pretty optimistic person... but the tank died AT THE FIRST SET OF MOBS. LEGITIMATELY THE FIRST MONSTER KILLED HIM IN RECORD TIME.
But before I can type anything to the chat, the tank pulls the mobs again. Okay. Lets see how fast this time goes *gets out stopwatch*.

With myself stunning the first mob and all 3 of us focusing on it, it goes down after a fairly decent battle.
Then the tank dies. 23 seconds into the second pull.
Myself and the BLM start to get the 2nd mob down but even with Second Wind and a potion downed, I die while its at 41%.
The tank then pipes up and says "Screw this. Bad healers all night and now one that bails too? I'm gonna call it for tonight."
I then quickly type to the WAR saying that it might be because of his right side of his gear as to why he wasn't getting proper heals.
I manage to just get the message away before he quits the dungeon followed closely after by the BLM.

So now its just me. Scratching my head as to what the hell just transpired over the last 3 mins.
Yes everything you can read above you happened in THREE MINUTES.

Luckily after a few mins of waiting I get a MCH, DRK and WHM and the entire run was a breeze.

Seriously though... as much as I am a WHM main... you can't heal stupid.

I used STR accs to level my way up with my 2 tanks (PLD and WAR) on an alt account. Had zero issues. Your guess is similar to mine, maybe the healer's gear was broken, maybe the tank's gear was. When the healer said "my heals are only healing for 30..." nothing in the tank's gear would make such a dramatic reduction of healing. Even if they were naked.

I just got a lv60 Astrologian in Satasha (leveling roulette) who conveniently discovered right before the final boss that he had buttons other than Protect, Benefic, and Malefic. His general inexperience with the class and attire definitely makes me think that he's a level booster, and the delay between actions was honestly worse than what I expect going into the first dungeon. It's definitely foreboding for when the expansion drops and a new player willing to drop the money could have a lv60 dungeon as their first combat experience in the game.

It could have been both, of course, though with all the damage the tank was taking after the first healer left suggests that the tank definitely had broken gear issues.

Meanwhile, a story of my own: just got out of an Expert Roulette run through the Burn. I noticed quickly that things were dying rather slowly, so I start checking gear. Tank's fine, healer's fine... oh wait, our DRG has all Ryumyaku armor (fine for the Burn) and a Lost Allagan weapon (i330). Joy. Worse, I'm pretty sure they had absolutely no idea how to use their skills: never saw Nastrond, don't think I ever saw a single Jump skill, and I definitely never saw an AoE combo. Pretty much had to provide all the DPS for the run, which was not fun. At least I got two comms out of it (I think the tank and healer were grouped together, as they were both Lalas from the same server, which was probably why, though I appreciated it nonetheless).

I completely agree with you that the Tank's gear was pretty broken, but also most likely the healer's gear would have been broken too to only heal at 250 for one heal in Stone Vigil.

It wasn't really a complaint at just the tank, it was just the bad 3 mins that felt like 15 mins. Just head scratching at everyone in general. Lol.

2 days ago I had what is........probably the weirdest if not the stupidest trial roullette I had in a while

So I get Thornmarch as AST, and almost immediately as we pull the RDM in our party starts trashing the warrior for no reason, a back and forth between the two continues to the point that when King Moogle Mog appeared they didn't seperate the king from the rest and thus we wipe.

The RDM gets vote kicked for harassment and then the Warrior just opened his mouth and was like "LMAO DOODS THAT GUY WAS WITH ME WE WERE JUST ****ING AROUND"

Me and most of the party were so flabbergasted by this and were like "Gee,it's like we cant read minds or something"

Not at one point did the dumb warrior and his friend make any hint of clarity that they were just memeing(and trust me I've seen people meme about each other in more clearer manner than this), and considering people's history with harassment and insults in this game I honestly don't know what else did he expect to happen

We finish it, I tell the warrior "next time if you two want to meme,make it a little clearer", and I get five comms out of this whole ordeal somehow.

I feel compelled to point out that despite its Lv1 requirement the Brand New Ring is actually a valid piece of equipment up to about Lv38 thanks to giving +3 of all primary stats. For tanks there's a case to be made for a Sphene Ring at Lv29 because it gives tenacity, although I'm not sure how much 3 tenacity really matters. At Lv39 they can equip a Heliodor Ring which gives more vitality than the Brand New Ring. It's not uncommon to be a bit lazy about upgrading gear when leveling additional classes, though I think they should have upgraded the weathered stuff by now.

I checked a few random videos of Stone Vigil from youtube and the healers in them have well in excess of 1600 max health. Compared to that the WHM seems a little low. Then again a Lv43 NIN in one video has over 2000. I don't know how much gear actually affects health at this point.

More telling is that the healers in the videos heal for around 500 with their basic heal and 800 with the improved heal. On one video an AST healed for over 1000 with a single Benefic II. So if this WHM only healed for 259 with a Cure II, something is definitely wrong with their gear. No amount of out-of-date, broken or even missing gear on the tank will lower their received heals by 70%.

That sounds about right. And my guess would be it was a broken weapon on the healer, seeing as their HP wasn't suffering too much but their healing output was lowered significantly. Additionally, a tank going down quickly in Stone Vigil even with decent gear doesn't seem too out of the ordinary in my experience. Stuff hits hard in there and you really need the heals. Though proper use of cooldowns can make a difference.

So I did O12 with my WAR and nothing important happened during the fight. But then when we opened the chests, the other WAR and a DPS dc'd.

Alright it's fine, I have all the time in the world. And nobody's complaining so we wait.

After like 1 minute they came back, rolled and...won everything. I felt like some major force, presumably the RNG God, deciced to screw with me today. I even rolled a 90 on that shaft....

Expert roulette - The Burn:

I went as WHM, got grouped with a PLD, DRG and RDM. The first pull, I'm doing my usual thing, aero 3, Assize, Holy spam, regen and oGCD heals. The DRG is (of course) single targeting, the RDM is only occasionally using Scatter, and the PLD is only using the Riot Blade combo (just the 1-2, not 1-2-3) Flash, and Clemency. I can't parse, being on PS4, but I have absolutely no doubt I was the top dps on that (and all subsequent) pull. After the pull the PLD pipes up with this gem:

"You can dps if you want to WHM, I have self heals"

..... /facepalm

I replied "Couldn't you tell that I was dpsing there?"

The RDM then said "I can tell because of your low mana after the pull"

Did one of them think they were the reason most of the mobs were dying together? Did the DPS not notice that after switching targets the one they switched to wasn't at full health anymore? Just the lack of awareness on that first pull really made me salty for the rest of the run.

Yeah that sure is a lack of awareness. And possibly of battle effects.
I always have battle effects turned on for party members, so I stay on track with what they're doing. It's... it's pretty easy to tell when a White Mage is AoEing.

Also the Riot Blades hurt my soul.

Wow.

The only time I ever do fast/riot blade spamming is in circumstances where the rest of the party dies and I end up having to solo the last part of a boss and I need quick mp to get more clemencies off to keep myself alive. That story almost hurts me as much as a FC mate of mine who once had a paladin tank that insisted 'shield oath is passive.'

To be fair, Halatali can be a little bit of a maze (not unlike Toto Rak) for people who haven\\'t been in a while. I remember not knowing to click on the firepit after Firemane. The spot where you click in the water after the biast boss is a bit more obvious since its ground level (and it was a while before I figured out what shortcuts were lol).

Also when I first started playing this, I didn\\'t pay attention to the chatlog in duty at all. It took a while before I was comfortable paying attention to things that weren\\'t the battle in front of me. So it was either someone very new (because lets face it, the first few dungeons are tank-optional really so the fact that they got thru them at that level of play isn\\'t a stretch) or it really was a bot which at this point is just as likely. I don\\'t blame your boot though. At the very least, if they were just a babe in the woods, it\\'ll teach them to pay attention. Unfortunate how the lowest level stuff is often the most challenging. :\

Yeah, I actually looked at them to see if they were pc or ps4 because I thought they might be a bot, but because I play on ps4 I can see other peoples PSN name if they are ps4, and they had a PS4 name, so it couldn't have been a bot ^^

Earlier yesterday I did leveling roulette on a tank for their daily, and I get thrown into Ifrit normal.

I see everyone's new and does not have job stones, or anything else really unlocked or leveled up except for their classes. Party comp was PLD (me), CNJ, ACN, and LNC. The ACN did not summon their pet, which I thought was odd.

Everything goes normally until the nail pops. I say in party chat for everyone to target the nail.

No one goes after the nail until I Shield Lob it. Finally the cnj and acn start attacking it, save for the lancer. The lancer just continues to wail on Ifrit, and eventually Ifrit gets tired of our shenanigans and hits the delete button on our group.

Round 2, cnj suggests that the lnc pays attention to chat calls, and the acn finally summons up their pet...topaz carbuncle. So close. We rebuff and go back in again...and the nail pops. The acn and cnj start attacking the nail, while the lancer does the same exact thing as before by trying to probe Ifrit repeatedly. Ifrit gets tired of the prostate exam once again and instantly deletes our group.

Round 3. The cnj and acn finally get tired of the lancer's bull and call him out on it. The cnj then suggests that, since our lancer friend isn't responding to party chat (apparently they were on the ps4 as the cnj was on ps4 and could see his psn name, while I can't since I'm on pc), that I kite Ifrit when the nail pops.

The nail pops and I start to kite hellboy, and the lancer naturally tries to chase the boss. The cnj finally did a sound callout in chat, and that FINALLY got the lancers attention to attack the nail.

'Oh my god, there's hope for LNC lol' I say in party chat. The other two 'lol'ed. We finally down Ifrit and the lancer finally talks in chat about 'sorry I didn't know'. Buddy, you'd think after the first one and if you looked at the chatbox AND the big 1 marker we put on the nail, you'd think that'd be something you SHOULD take care of, especially after the first wipe.

Basic Party 101 stuff still just does not get through to some people, and that frightens me if that lancer continues on like that.

Had the biggest derp today. Down to exactly 10% on Byakko EX farm, someone says "lb" in party chat and something about the combination triggered auto-pilot mode and I popped the melee lb3.

To be fair the party were nice about it and I can laugh it off afterwards. I did the fair thing and dropped to run a Practise group though, think I needed it :P
