^^^ this right here, I would prefer straightforward information as well with a timeframe or a concluded decision whether they’ll do it or if it’s completely off the table. I’ve held off on buying the preorder for this very reason, because I want to see as a customer how they will handle this.
I’ll most likely buy the expansion, but their answer will determine if I’ll buy the preorder or just the base expansion cheap.
Hnnng I'm getting the itch to sketch no matter how crappy it'd turn out. Imagine how great this thread would be it turned into male viera art-posting too. /HEaVYbREAThING
Hang in there SE. Call their bluff.
Tbh, just dont bother arguing with people. Its not worth it, the arguments just get on repeat and it can get tiring explaining things over and over again. I like the idea to change the topic to Fan Art, so here is my contribution I found on tumblr.

Yes, hi, pre-order cancelled, not renewing subscription person here.
You guys need to stop acting like people who think this is sexist, or people who are going to unsubscribe, are such blemishes on this debate. People who come in here and bring people like me up as a reason why this request is unreasonable are stawmanning. Stop getting up in arms and trying to fight them off every time they show up here - ignore and move on.
I agree, in most cases it is a gross simplification of the existing stance and even if it was accurate, people prioritize different things out of the content they currently have and the content to be released. It doesn’t change the fact that there are people that are looking at where the game is going and questioning it, and the lack of male viera can be a part of that.
It's a great piece of art, but I'd rather not see a viera with such a thick torso. Omega m's torso is thin. I think Omega m is a good in between for people who wanted a somewhat more muscular viera, and those who wanted a smaller viera. The viera in the picture you're referring to leaves no room for people who want something thinner. -and besides, I already posted the older fanfest concept art where the viera do appear to have some muscle on them.
However, I do want to point out that I would rather see male viera in whatever form than no viera at all.
Can't wait to see.
Furthermore, I believe if male viera were to be implemented into the game, they will be based off the elezen model. Female viera are based off of an elezen model, and Yoshi P mentioned the men would look similar to elezen as well. This viera you guys are referring to is less likely to happen for that reason. However, Omega m's body type is more plausible. Why? Because it appears omega m is using a male elezen model as the base. Sure, we could ask the devs to make a male viera from scratch, but why is there a need to do that when an omega m body type looks great? It would also require less work.
Because an omega m body type is within the realm of reality, and because it's a good in-between for buff viera and a smaller viera, what we should do it ask specifically for that.
I'll be specifically asking for something like the art. The Omega M body is an okay compromise, but not my first choice by a long shot. I also don't care for them being shorter than the femmes.
I'm going to do neither that nor ask for an Elezen base - I'll ask for a male Au Ra base. And there's more than just the similar builds that support this option - if SE decides to give male Viera fur patches, the Au Ra model already supports such things with their scales. In fact, by and large male Viera (as commonly envisioned) have much more in common with male Au Ra than with male Elezen, as male Elezen do not have a monopoly on "tall and not Roe-buff"
I think the devs are more likely to use a male elezen as the base, but I could be wrong. I'm only assuming this because Yoshi P was considering what male viera would look like, and mentioning it may look similar to elezen.
However, I'll say that I would prefer an elezen base over an au ra base. Of course, they would have to fix the issues with the elezen base, like their giraffe neck for instance.
Awgh thank you! I'm so happy you like my viera boys :,) I think it would be super cool too see more variations on ffxiv faces and the fact they have dreads and braid it would be mostly because is handier for them since they're mostly hunter :0c they hair should be easy too manage, also yay for vieras from different generations! ♥
I personally didn't like his answer to that question, and it felt like oversimplifying the matter. Elezen with bunny ears and a Miqo'te face? Is that how they made female Viera? I mean, if yes, then so be it, but...
At the core of that answer was the need to use preexisting assets in order to cut down on development times. And if that's the reason, using an Au Ra base is just as likely as an Elezen base, the question is what the devs are looking to create. Which is why bringing up suggestions like this, and showing support (if you support it, ofc) to That Fanart™ is important, so that the devs will consider these things as options.
+1, please bring the male Viera in the game! It is truly a missed opportunity to show the world what they look like. The lore excuse is weak, considering that they write the lore and could have done the same exception made for male miqo'te.
And it is not only about the missed chance. One of the appeals of this game was the LACK of gender locked races. Now that is gone, along with the promise not to lock races behind gender like it was in 1.0. Please reconsider!

Square needs to make a decision and announce, it doesn't take this long to have a meeting and develop the bones of a plan. If they don't respond soon I worry they hope the issue will die over time.
I suppose it could also depend on how much variance they put into the two clans for the females. Having body variance between the males of the clans with one built off Omega M's revamped Elezen model and one off a tailored au ra would be interesting.
That, however, would be asking quite a bit. I will be happy as long as we get them. Although I do hope they're not too young looking (pretty is one thing, looking teenaged is another).
I think they would be similar in width / thickness as the current female viera. Maybe a little wider or thicker to account for muscles but I doubt they would be thin or scrawny like Omega M. I'm also not a fan of Omega M's body shape. I think the devs SHOULD implement male veria / female hrothgar, but I think it should be as they envision them and not us. Whether that's super buff guys, scrawny guys, or w/e they think fits. Will I be happy with their design? Maybe. They'll at least be in the game tho :) (I would like male Au Ra's that are only slightly higher than female Au Ra cause I don't like to be that tall. Even tho I would consider Hrothgar.)
My point to Aces, and as were my previous posts to him and those coming in here, is that they are pinning that as the sole attitude of this thread. It is not. There is another dedicated thread where people encourage their outrage. I am pointing out that they are strawmanning the majority of this thread's community to be a bunch of whiners when the point of this thread is discussing male viera ideas and giving them support. I'm basically baiting for laughs from those who remember that he came in here telling us that Female Viera and Male Hrothgar should be scrapped for voicing male viera positivity along with calling us a minority that if we are 'pandered to' will spark the end of ffxiv like wow. It was for a chuckle, because anyone who has followed this thread knows that his claims have nothing to stand on.
I think a lot of the current male models could bring really unique features to the viera! Also, remember, SE might be able to do more mix and matching than we think! We don't know all the in's and out's of their programs, models or rigs!
For example? The other day, purely out of curiosity, I hopped on my male roegadyn and compared his model to the hrothgar in the showcase video. I cycled through some similar animations and the like, right? And I can totally believe SE used the roegadyn model as a base. But I ALSO noticed they definitely did a bit of nip and tuck! The two biggest things were that the hrothgar torso's look shortened and their shoulders appear widened (they don't slope down as much as roegadyn's).
Point is, no matter what model or skeleton based rig they use, they can build upon it! Omega's, elezen's, etc etc. Not to mention that the dev team apparently have more body type customization in mind for the future!
Correction. I don't care if they add male viera or not. My point has always been that anyone who is willing to unsub just because they're not getting male viera didn't really like FFXIV to begin with and is looking for an excuse to quit. There isn't a single thing, besides glamours, that they can't do in the game without being a male viera. So I'm hoping SE sticks to their guns and calls their bluff.
They could but there is also lost fantasia income and people who won't buy from the Mogstation due to unhappiness with the decision. It doesn't have to involve ragequits, necessarily. However, you do imply you care as to whether they're added or not by hoping that they stick to their guns and therefore do not add them.
I believe the angle Billy is coming at this from - and he can correct me if I err - is to do with a perceived bias against adding decent glamours and appearances catering to male characters. Personally I wouldn't necessarily impute this to sexism, but certainly there is an element of waifu-maker pandering in the game, however I think that's driven more by the fact that a majority of active characters is female - but not really great enough to justify cutting on designs that interest male character players.
