Lupin - make it a playable race!

Models like this (and the current in game Lupin faces) are the reason i would not enjoy more beastial races as playable options in FFXIV (and yes i understand this particular comment was aimed at lore/ world integration, however not bringing up the technical issues inherent with their inclusion would be more than a little short sighted). I have attempted to cut back on my stance of negativity/ opposition to the proposed Lupin character model discussion because I know how little it was appreciated in the Viera thread. However saying WoW does it better will compel me to disagree. I stand by my earlier comments. The amount of work needed to make Lupin viable as a playable race in FFXIV is disproportionate to the amount of players that would actually use it. Even more so if the models were of WoW's caliber in comparison to FFXiV's current playable options.

So you're saying because someone did a lazy job on a human rig they won't work? That's not even anything beast-looking. That's just a dog head on a human body that someone phoned in the animations for.

I dont really understand this? So because there are strange movements in WoW means that we cant have beastly races in FF14? I am quite sure that you would find bugs like that in all games with all races. Also I for example only used WoW as an example to show that they can have "hair" with braids.

When I said 'WoW does it better,' I meant how they handled the intros for their races (Panda's start in their own area before moving on, for example). Anything else from there is unrelated to what I said, however I see you point. At the moment, Lupin only have a handful of 'player' animations for weapon skills (True Thrust, whatever SAM's do and the BRD's lost Wide Volley skill... something which even the Lamiae do) and they hold SAM and DRG weapons like a PLD sword.

That said, current playable races have a few issues of their own (or had, unsure if SE fixed them in Stormblood). I recall my Roegadyn's own body distorting weirdly when sitting on the Bomb mount (belly collapsing into itself or something) and let's not forget Empyreal Arrow followed by a skill (you legs will continue the Empyreal Arrow animation, but if you do things like Misery's End or Blood Letter, you top will be animated just for those skills. So you pretty much twisted your entire body. Was extremely noticeable on male Roegadyn... hell, anything is extremely noticeable on them because they're huge muscle people and often forgotten by SE in one way or another). If I really felt like it, I could try out every single weaponskill with my Roe naked just to see if SE 'cuts corners' like Blizzard did.

Lets be real here. This was not done by "some people..." This was done by Blizzard, a company with so much cash, development skill, team members, and resources that they are easily comparable to Square - Enix. The above (female) model in question is their answer to a beastly/ feral, race for their alliance faction. I think that it looks rather wretched and laughable, something that would look ridiculous in many of the armor sets in game (to say nothing of the cash shop items, purposely made to accentuate the human form might i add).

I played a worgen off and on in WoW for awhile. Let me be honest when I say that I feel that even the worgen are better looking than the lupin right now. Like, a lot better. All the lupin just look like derp-garbage. There is exactly one lupin model, with its wildly wrong head and face proportions that are hard to look at. It just comes in different states of dress and one of them is a bit taller. They are by that token no different than any other beast race, so I really don't expect them to become playable and I hope they don't, personally. If some people like them, that's great. But as was said, it would take a lot of work to make them even remotely interesting to more than a few people. And to be fair, their story is not bad. But it is not as good as even some other beast tribes, let alone a canon playable race. Hell, the namazu are already more interesting, if obviously silly.

I honestly don't know if they'll add another race. If they do I imagine it will be Viera, but if they do add the Lupin to be playable, that might be one of the most disappointing things I could imagine for this game, and lately, I can imagine a lot. :(

They're never going to put time and resources into creating a race only something like 5% of the player base would actually touch.
