Perhaps. Hard to say. Either way, I'd be more irritated at the healer still. Whether they were the one in Shire gear or the tank.
Just to clarify, the tank was appropriately geared for his level and was dodging properly. The poor guy was dying because the healer wasn't healing enough (I didn't see him use anything other than Benefic and he kept trying to DPS) or using his Aetherflow OSBs. The healer was the one in Shire gear, which combined with his attitude torqued me off to a level I usually don't reach anymore. Here's the thing: I've run dungeons with undergeared healers and while it can be annoying because the trash packs take a while to die it can be doable. If it wasn't for his attitude we would have sucked it up and got on with it.
My theory is he was a Summoner main who wanted shorter queues and thought unaugmented Shire was "good enough." Yeah, for Shisui maybe, but I digress...
I'm sorry, but my inner healer just had an aneurysm just from reading what that first healer did to you.
However I envisioned three other people getting a shiny new replacement healer that actually did their job raising their arms and going 'praise the sun!' I've been in those sorts of parties before where I replaced a terrible healer, so I know how you feel.
Yesterday I decided to give healing a second shot and went to level my AST to Lv 47
Things went smoothly for the most part with the exception of two runs
1/A Stone Vigil run with a lancer.........LANCER.Keep in mind that this is a lv 43 or so dungeon so he has his job crystal by now.Heck him not doing the quests wasnt even the issue cuz he bought a job boost hence the shire gear that comes automatically equipped with those. Not to mention his weapon was of a low level which meant he was barely doing much damage which meant each boss took longer than it should to kill.I have the feeling he did this on purpose considering that, after u boost a job through job boosts from mogstation,it comes automatically equipped with its job crystal so he had to manually remove it himself.
2/A Dzamael Darkhold run with a PLD and an RDM. I wouldn't mind big pulls since before this I handled a big pull in Sunken Temple of Qarn, but not only the paladin did big pulls he could barely handle,he kept standing in aoes too on top of the fact that he doesnt use flash immediately after pulling which meant the moment i start healing him I get aggroed. The Paladin of course dies twice and I died along with him shortly after
But oh wait it gets worse,we get to the boss of the dungeon and that RDM keeps staying in melee range and get cleaved,I was healing him and the Paladin non-stop till he died.Keep in mind throughout the entire dungeon that RDM never Mana-shifted me....not even once.He of course dies andnd then he had the gall to shout at me with all caps "HEAL".......I was like dude tell the paladin to stop standing in the orange poopoo so im not guzzling MP on him by the gallon and how about u STAND AWAY FROM MELEE RANGE SO U DONT GET CLEAVED....YOU'RE A CASTER NOT A MELEE DPS,I used Lucid Dreaming as much as i can to keep my MP up and tried my best to manage the MP consumption but alas my MP will eventually hit zero. What saved this miserable run was our Monk who actually knew what they were doing
I swear playing a healer is like a mother in a supermarket telling her kids to stop running around like headless chickens and to not shake the shelves but then said kids blame the mom when the box of cereal hit them square in the head
Edit:BUT WAIT....there is more
just a few moments ago me and two people from a (Synced Coils static) i was in asked me to do some roullettes with him,i told him I'll do the levelling roullette with my AST so we queue and get sastasha(normal)
Things proceeds well despite the mass pulling of every single thing inside the dungeon......until the last stretch where he decides to mass pull every single pirate inside all the way up to the boss.......and then he proceeds to lose aggro the moment I heal him.He never picked aggro off me and he asked me to heal his DPS friend but as u can imagine, the pirates mow me down and we wipe......IN FREAKIN SASTASHA
Then he says "Man I hate being healed by bad healers....ITS SASTASHA NORMAL"........YES IT IS SASTASHA NORMAL HOWEVER I AIN'T A FREAKIN TANK so how about YOU pick up aggro like what you're supposed to do.
I stopped saying anything after that cuz its hard to find statics that run coils synced.......I tell him to heal and I go DRK for the next roullette. We get Pharos Sirius(Hard)
right after the first boss I noticed the healing being less and less until at one point it stopped....and we wipe to mobs.Second time we pull....zero heals go off and we wipe again.Apparently he went afk without telling anyone cuz of an alleged "fake call" on his phone.....yet apparently im the bad healer
Oh and I forgot to mention the lv 50 archer I ran into after that in dzamael darkhold(ironworks gear and all but too lazy to equip a job crystal.....again).
...................i can't wait to do Shadowbringers with Trust cuz..........I hate people sometimes
Since when is utilizing Aetherflow "too much work" If anything, it makes my work easier.
FFS, he had access to Excog. Literally no effort to use a 800 potency heal that casts itself when needed or expired.
I ever see that guy I'm going to take away his codex and smack him over the head with it!
This is probably preaching to the choir, but PSA: please do your job quests as soon as possible.
Loaded into Stone Vigil to level SCH, got paired with a DRK tank. I quickly noticed he didn't have Darkside active, and asked him about it; I assumed they were just shy about using it because of the MP issue (not uncommon for newbie DRKs). After several pauses without answering (pause and then move on to the next group), he finally speaks up to say that he "can't find it on his hotbar." I ask if he had done his lvl 30 job quest yet (remember, this is Stone Vigil, so he should have his lvl 40 one done as well) and he said he hadn't yet. Our DRG reacted with "O.o", which I consider an entirely appropriate response; I told him he probably should go and do that, since he gets lots of useful abilities. He says ok, we continue; he's at least doing alright with the basics, if nothing else. Get to the final boss, and in the middle of the fight, he 'boasts' in party chat, "no job skills needed, jus [sic] tanking skills"; at this point, I'm metaphorically facepalming. Did I also mention that he had an incredibly annoying targeting macro that constantly announced, "just two...?" every time he used it, which was every time only two enemies remained? And he wasn't even a sprout, where I could excuse some of this ignorance. I'm also pretty sure I was doing more DPS than him as a healer, which is sad.
Looked up his profile on Mogstation shortly thereafter, and found that he already had a WAR up to 69, which really makes me ask how on earth he got that far without realizing job quests were important.
Been leveling an alt with my friend the last 2 weeks, just got through ARR with em and I decided to do some roulettes while they went to bed so I didn't let em go to waste, I que for 50/60 roulette and I get Amdapor Keep HM. We say hello, I'm healing on WHM, tank is a PLD, 2 DPS are BRD/NIN I notice that the BRD and NINs hp are really low like 2.4k-2.6k I look at their gear and dear lord it's ilvl 30-40 with a mix of INT/STR/DEX gear all over the place and the weapons are the ones you buy from your GC. I'm just already dreading this but it's like 2am my time so I said well maybe I can Holy things and speed this up and I sorta did but not really, I brought my A game and was popping X-Ethers, Lucid, the whole nines and the NIN and BRD didn't AoE, got hit by every AoE, it was so aggravating.
The tank was in ilvl 90 gear which is fine you get it from your 50 job quest in the end and he had some ironworks accs but what really really made me mad was I asked the DPS "Hey guys you know you get your ilvl 90 gear from your job quests right?" The NIN responds with "We know we just didn't equip it" LIKE WHY WOULDN"T YOU!? There's 0 reason for you not to equip it on the spot it's utter insanity why a reasonable person wouldn't just equip it.
We get to first boss, I explain the mechanics (I told them this is an alt I can give you pointers), hide behind a pillar when you get a red mark on your head to channel the lightning into the statues, the NIN gets picked and literally ate 2 ticks *poof* dead, I Swiftcast NIN says "??? heal hello?", I'm like dude you need to hide behind the statues, he gets picked again, eats 2 ticks dead again. The BRD is now yelling at me to heal him wtf are you doing, I said I explained the mechanics you guys need to hide or you die if you had actual gear you'd survive more than 2 seconds, we wipe because the PLD just eats it all as I'm yelling to run behind a statue okay round 2. We wipe twice after that and the a vote abandon happens, I click yes because I can't have these DPS who aren't properly geared and know they could have been proper in here but chose not to, before we abandon the BRD goes "get me out of this hell hole and give us an actual healer lol" and the NIN responds with "does your main suck as bad as your alt at healing?".
This right here just made me so mad the DPS didn't come in properly geared, stood in AoE, didn't use any of their abilities (songs, ninjitsu, DoTs etc) yet I'm the one who is the bad one and they're wearing ilvl 30 Haukke Manor pinks, lvl 30 something GC weapons, INT/MND boots, I don't get how people can be so clueless about a game and blame others for their short comings. This was probably the worst experience I've had since playing this game in ARR I'm honestly lost for words.
It's easier to foist off blame on someone else than to take the needed two seconds to do some self introspection sadly. Either they were ignorant of what this game entails or deliberately trolling. Given the argument against equipping better gear and the refusal to listen to your instructions on how to handle the big bad death beam, it's likely some combination of the two - and a direct lack of regard for other people and an unwillingness to learn is a /nasty/ combination. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that...
As an Astrologian who went through this exact type of people 3 times in a row yesterday......I feel your pain
Being a healer is the definition of a thankless job because it's oh so easy for people to toss the blame on the healer for their missteps
I swear if I encounter people like the Paladin,Red Mage and Warrior I met yesterday I'll just take the penalty and leave
Yes it's our job to heal but we're not an infinite source of mana so it would be great if people actually starts listening and stop being asshats
It utterly astounds me how much people will try to blame someone else for their mistakes.
Bad gear?
RAWR IT’S THE HEALER’S FAULT IF I DIE BECAUSE MY MAX HP IS TRASH
Stand in AOEs and die?
RAWR HEALER’S FAULT I DIED TO A PERFECTLY DODGEABLE AOE
Fail a mechanic and die?
THIS HEALER SUCKS BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T HEAL ME THROUGH NEAR INSTANT DEATH BECAUSE REEEEEE MECHANICS
Honestly. The fact that they had enough to get through the item level requirement of the dungeon astounds me (and almost makes me wish for it to be “You have to have this item level minimum in most, if not all, of your equipment slots”; at least for the left side).
Unfortunately, we are not equipped to heal stupidity. That is beyond our powers.
Reminds me of this one tank I had some patch ago in fractal hard. Sephirot puddles went out on the second boss and the tank just... stood there. Instant 7 vuln stacks because he didn't move.
#healersadjust
I think my favorite was the guy telling me I had instacast heals so there was no excuse.
Yah no, insta cast doesn't help you getting one shot even through the Galvanize I put through. That's 100 percent on you, either for failing to gear or avoiding a mechanic.
Queued into Sohm Al.
Newbie message.
Has to be the Samurai, everyone else has gear that's locked behind story progression.
We kill the first pack.
Samurai leaves duty.
...huh?
Copperbell Mines.
Astrologian and Summoner and Rogue
I was tanking for the first time as a paladin
Immediately realise this is not going to go well when the summoner and Astrologian start pulling things left and right while I'm tanking manage to handle everything they throw my way until second to last pack before final boss when Astro and Summoner decide to facepull the other three packs in that corner area before the mob I was tanking purposely taking thier time to bring them back around while I'm dying die just as they arrive get rezzed I say nothing but finish pulling aggro off of those two and finish out the dungeoun both leave without a word other dps gives me a com and says good job. I get out of there and repair wishing I could have added those other two onto my blacklist.
Not that weird. I have a job where I work weird hours and can get called in at a moment's notice to cover shifts and my buddy has a toddler so he's in the same boat. However, I always tell people I have to drop because of work. If this is the case, it's polite to say so.
Thanks everyone for the replies I took a loooooong nap and did something constructive IRL and i'm all good indeed healers can't heal stupid and I hope in ShB we see a min ilvl for dungeons instead of just queing willy nilly and getting in with equipment 200 ilvls ago but I wish people would also equip the right gear and do their part can't stress that enough.
Edit: I agree with this I believe they should make it you can't que unless you have your main stat (unless it's a leveling item like Brand New Ring/Aether Earring) in every slot reaching the min ilvl or just put a ilvl to gate em because this is getting worse and worse.
Despite my Zurvan NM being the highlight of my alt’s week, I remembered another instance I had while working my way through 3.x. I forget which trial it was (I know it was a trial because it was 8 players—it may have been Final Steps), but there was a RDM in there who died about 5 times, and then said “Lol, if I’m being honest, I’m not paying attention right now. I’m watching Netflix.”
You don’t say.
Needless for me to say, when he died again after making that comment, I may have conveniently forgotten how to use Ascend. If you wanna watch Netflix and play, fine. But if you can’t pay attention to the content while doing it, just don’t do battle content. Please.
At least my alt has finally made it to Stormblood. Now to just get to 4.55 on her. @.@
Reporting myself.
69 dragoon. Sick of running HOH, have no idea what my buttons do.
Absentmindedly join leveling roulette without thinking it through.
Get Castrum Abania.
Hit level 70 halfway through, doing what feels to be half the damage as the healer, before just leaving dungeon.
My accessories were level 5-50.
Why does Square even permit this.
Leveling roulette as tank pops up with a "25 minutes in progress" dungeon. Oh dear.
It's Halatali, and they're up to the room before the final boss. Maybe not so bad, but I have to wonder what happened to the previous tank.
"What's been happening?" I ask.... and the only answer I get from the English-speaker is "lol".
Well then. Off we go.
Messiest Halatali boss battle ever. Nobody was getting the fireballs, so they just kept exploding on the boss.
I think the healer might have been drawing aggro from the sprites, as well. I did try to pick them up but I was trying to be on fireball duty as well.
(Ironically I'd gotten Halatali earlier in the day on my DPS alt and was grumbling about how someone kept trying to "help" with the fireballs I was already dealing with. One person per fireball set please, or you're just stepping on each others' toes.)
Anyway, got through it, but mostly that "lol" put a sour taste in my mouth.
I'd still love to know what happened to the previous tank.

Also a slightly weird Sastasha as healer. Not bad, just weird.
The other three were clearly together, whether a team or multiboxing - one called somewhere in the realm of "Felix the Cat" (names have been changed to protect the whatever) and the other two were both named "Helper [Animal]". Helper Tank must have been a boosted 60 because she got the first-level 'kill X enemies' achievement mid-dungeon; the others were level 30-something.
They clearly knew what they were doing, and progress was fine, just odd. At first I thought they were doing a complete clear - they took a turn down a side path in the sea caves to a clam that nobody ever bothers with; then we got to the big "pirates' base" room and took a right turn through a different group of enemies.
But then we apparently were in weird hyperefficient mode. Pulled the guard out of the Captain's Quarters instead of going in to fight him, and then - weirdest of all - they did some kind of sneaky approach to the Waverider gate where they crept along the wall and behind the guards without alerting them. Which is great and all, if you actually want to tell me you're doing that instead of letting me blunder into them so you have to turn back and fight them anyway.
Then we got to the final boss, and they just randomly stood there and jumped around for several seconds before starting the battle as normal.
So, nothing terrible, just weird. I didn't really want to commend them, and felt bad that I'd probably get theirs, so I dashed for the exit. Still got two comms.
So here is something that happened to me yesterday on the pretorium while playing my AST
One of the two warrior tanks in the party thought it'd be pretty funny to shirk me on ultima weapon
I know at least for part 1 of ultima the aggro target is kind of random until the debuff ends but in part 1 the aggro wasn't picked off till a few seconds later and even then it persisted for a while despite the lucid dreaming.....but in part two...despite having Diurnal Sect on and using Lucid Dreaming, after the tank pulls and aggroes ultima for like 10 seconds,I suddenly jumped from 7th on aggro to 1st on aggro and it stayed that way for a solid 30 seconds
Keep in mind that Diurnal Sect reduces enmity generation so there is no way coupling that with lucid dreaming that I keep this high level of an aggro unless i got actively shirked by both,in a fit of silent salt from me i rescue one of them into a laser and oh how i wish rescue's cooldown wasn't long..........uggh
It's a good thing the pretorium is easy and ultima weapon likes to use aoes more than auto-attacking cuz.....I swear as a healer you are destined no matter what to run into bad tanks specifically
I thought I was in for round two of my Halatali experience earlier... leveling roulette, 15 minutes in progress, and yes it's Halatali again.
But the party is midway through the final boss, the barrier is up and it doesn't offer to warp me in.
So /huh, sit back and watch the party finish the dungeon.
Easiest roulette ever.
Aery party got stuck in the starting gate for a solid 5 minutes. 2 minutes of the White Mage's cutscene, 3 minutes of the gate just not dropping even after everyone is ready.
Gonna have to guess this was caused by the White Mage experiencing some unholy levels of lag or such, as they were barely able to move, and dropped out citing "com dying" after a couple of packs.
But sure was a bizarre experience, just being stuck there for that long.
Oh yeah and the White Mage who had to leave was a first timer again. Do I have some kind of a "thou shalt not allow sprouts to see the first bosses of Heavensward leveling dungeons" -curse on me?
I had someone do that a few weeks ago - we were all locked there for a minute or two, and ended up finishing a few seconds after reset time.
Ironically the slow-to-load person was named something like "Slow Poke"...
I queued into Mentor Roulette on white mage and got a PIP in the Vault. They were on the last boss. Tank asks me if I can heal and dodge, and I'm like Yes. So we start the fight and I figure out why the previous healer left; the tank's HP is dropping like mad. I heal like crazy, popping lucid and assize on cooldown since healing the tank is draining my MP. We got through it (thankfully the dps were competent and I didn't have to heal them much) but I had to check the tank's gear out of curiosity when it was over, and he was in full Ironworks gear. Not even the augmented version, which is at least i130, but the regular i120 version. >_<
Yeah I love it when people get low-level duties and try to run it like its unsynced and/or don't take it seriously then get butt-hurt when they get flattened by it. People who have never healed don't realize theres a set CD between casts (just like their CD between skills *Le Gasp*) that we pretty much can't do anything about. Meaning if you can't survive the two seconds in between then you ded. So sorry.
I kind of wish I'd have gotten them. Because while I like smooth runs I also like those teachable moments because I don't care enough about healing to take offense: especially when its the other person's fault. Then its just amusing.
On a related but slightly different note: did WoD as healer last night to farm for glams and got a message from the other healer in the party saying that whatever I did to not let the SAM die. My immediate reaction was to warn the SAM not to do stupid shit, but instead I just promised to 'do my best'. Thankfully the party knew the mechanics well enough, including the SAM so that healing everyone was fairly easy (DRG and WHM both went down but it was fine). At the final boss, the WHM reiterated that SAM was heal priority--even over the tank. I assumed they were on tank duty and I just said, again, that I'd do my best. We finished the boss without wiping, even though we flubbed one of the meteor drops. SAM didn't die and got what was presumably a clean parse? Not sure what that was all about.
Easiest roulette I've ever been in was when I joined a PiP right as the group killed the last boss. We're talking more time to actually load in, and I got all the bonuses. It was 50/60 roulette too, which imo is the worst 4-man to do when it comes to skill levels being all over the place. That was during the days before auto teleport was a thing. Not sure if that can happen now, but I took it with a smile and an lol. ^^
Was playing one of my alts leveling SCH, and got stone vigil. Got a tank with all dps gear and did not use CDs. Was having to spam heal every pull. The times where he would pull more than 1 pack he would be instantly deleted. Run took about 45 mins. The cherry on top tho is that well leaving the tank chimed in with "thanks everyone aside from the terrible healer".
Leveling roulette sees a fully geared tank with an outstanding record, gives her Sastasha. Leveling roulette sees a DPS with no gear who leveled exclusively through PotD+HoH, pops out a Doma Castle. Leveling roulette has a twisted sense of humor.
Its much easier to dump on someone else then to acknowledge that you yourself might be the problem. And pube on the steak is stupid, waiter could get fired for that(besides, the guy rude enough to make someone want to do that in the first place is also the guy who will complain to management to get his meal comped). While being a better person then the jerk is the right way to live, if revenge must be had then putting something nasty under the steak is the better move.
I've had that run before too, after the tank left DPS said I did a great job healing. Ironically I was fully leveled on WHM and as you said 2 to 3 hits and tank would be at 10% HP. Not even aldo could keep that tank above 50%, but of course it is the healer's fault that they grab aggro too with a single heal. In a 70 roulette I even had a tank tell me as whm to pop diverision!
On a positive note I had 3 good dungeon runs as AST where I got 3 comms in all of them, one on The Aery,Sastatsha(Hard) and Gubal Library(Normal)
The last one had us wipe but I got all 3 comms regardless.
I don't think I'm a great healer yet and I doubt I'm ready to heal ex and savage stuff but I think I'm improving bit by bit
