Name ofISPTier 1: Level 3 Communications
Location: One of the hops directly outside your own NA Server Network.
ae-10-10.car2.Montreal2.Level3.net - IP 4.69.153.86
Problem occurs: Always. Packet loss & unstable pings.
Reference number: Hundreds, possibly thousands of posts on these forums.
Is this a joke: Not at all. It affects various users and their ISP's Worldwide.
My Request for Information: An update on the situation as there hasn't been one and the problem still exists.
Thank You for your time.
Name of ISP: OnLime, National Cable Networks, Rostelecom
Location: Moscow, Russia; my current IP-address is 109.173.11.217(broadband-109-173-11-217.nationalcablenetworks.ru).
Connection: current speed I can check through Speedtest.net is about 21/23Mbit/s.
Problem occurs: Usually between 23:00-01:00 (GMT+4)
Information: It seems like packet loss and often TCP retransmission take place. And in game - I experienced in more than 2k "received ping", 0 "sent ping"; often delays in game and rarely even disconnects from the server.
I have a traceroute from me to server (sorry for russian letters):

Do you want to get my Sniffer traces with TCP-retransmission?..

- Since 14th Jan
- A few of us have been chatting on the SKY forums and a SKY rep finally confirmed the problem is with Level 3 in Montreal.
- Left posting until now as I was getting by using WTFast but now even with a GPN, today in particular; I was getting horrible lag all over the world map. Didn't matter if I had the GPN running or not it was exactly the same.
2 of my friends on Plusnet who also route via Level3 and they have no problem. Glad I switch over from sky to Virgin yesterday.
Edit: also the problem should of been fix for sky user on 22th jan posted and confirmed by a few sky user on their forum who play this game.
- Telstra Bigpond
- Australia
- Lag issues occuring since roughly 2.1 patch, constant problems to the point where the game is almost unplayable. 1-2 minute waits when talking to NPC's, major lag for 10 seconds at a time, and disconnected roughly every ten minutes. I really hope these issues are resolved soon it's getting quite upsetting :(
Verizon Fios

- basically since 2.1 I've been rubber banding constantly it appears worse during prime time but I also think it may just be anecdotal.
S-E, what the hell. It's been more than a month. Get with it and get this fixed.

First time player, really enjoying the game, but these lag spikes are killin it.
ISP: Time Warner Cable
Country: North Carolina USA
Time: Between 6pm-midnight everyday.
- Time Warner Cable
- USA North Caroline
- Like above me after 6pm till very late, everyday
problem started a week ago, and lag spikes were minimal, around 1-2 seconds long,I din't pay much attention to it since I was hoping the maintenance was gonna fix it, but now I suffer 3-10 seconds long spikes, the lag is way too intensive and is destroying my experiense, do something already.
- Name of ISP: Time warner cable
- Country of Residence: United states, south carolina
- When does the problem occur (always, only during specific times?): Always, although it is at it's worst between 1pm and 1am weekdays.
- Reference number from your ISP, if you raised this matter with them: N/A, but i have opened the issue several times at several different levels.
I have successfully helped fight this same thing in other games. The problem is happening at the hop between the roadrunner backbone and the following server. Ping is unaffected, but high packet loss causes in-game high ping to be reported. This may be exacerbated because of the ports used. I've seen anywhere between 2 and 10% packet loss at this hop consistently for a week. It's the Quebec line that's screwing up.

Update: Spoke with Time Warner cable representative, they are getting in touch with the owner of the quebec server ran by VSNL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VSNL_International_Canada)
If anyone is seeing high packet loss at some quebec server, open a ticket with your ISP and ask them to also contact VSNL because of packet loss. The ISPs cannot directly force VSNL to upgrade or repair their tier 2 IXP server in Quebec, but if enough ISPs and corporations give VSNL a buzz, we're more likely to see better results more quickly.
FFXIV moderators: if your read this, please let someone in charge if your network infrastructure know to also make the phonecall to VSNL. I've seen on several places in these forums complaints about "unplayable lag". I suspect a good deal of them are going to be resolved if this server is fixed. I'm located out of South Carolina, for what it's worth.
Also, as an aside, images/tracerts were created with pingplotter

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: 02/10/14: on my cable internet, time warner via south carolina things keep getitng worse for this ixp. it's hopeful in a way: im assuming that 30% packet loss is a bigger deal than 5%
SOLUTIONS TRIED (that dont work)
VPN doesnt work, vpns are too slow to support the udp transfer, lag is at a constant 2seconds through most free vpns, and any vpn worth it's salt is now using https, which can't route ffxiv it appears,
Blocking problematic nodes directly doesnt work, traffic doesnt re-route
POSSIBLE workaround:
Lag is 100% alleviated... If i route my traffic through verizon's network via my phone. which is crazy, but i guess this is what im doing for months rather than be frustrated endlessly. I have a rooted gnex on one of verizon's old unlimited data @4g plans, so it wont break the bank, although its only about 200 mb a night if i make sure that all my streaming stuff is off, so, not so bad.
http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/w...omMAtoSE-1.png
so here is a long tracet from my Verizon fios ISP at my house all the way to Hyperion data center. IF you look you can see at level3 in New York and at level3 in Montreal there is consistent packet loss. The unexpected packet loss is also happening directly at the SE server for Hyperion. This is unacceptable

Normally when this happens my whole internet (but not modem) seems to crash for a bit on my computer while playing FF14... but when I stop playing it, I do not have these issues (I've got a big sample size, it's not a coincidence).
Today I had it different, just hard lag where people were standing still for a few seconds, then moving for one, and so on and so on. Smooth Internet in all other forms.
