After your words: "The top lip appears the same, except the curves have been soften slightly (like the example)" it became even more obvious to me that discussing with you makes absolutely no sense.
Have fun and troll each other... why not, maybe we’ll meet another day and under other circumstances. Today I’m not in the best mood and I’m afraid that mutual trolling will end with a sad result for you. I say this completely sincerely without any intention of offending you.
Whether I agree with you or not, whether you agree with me or not, also makes absolutely no sense. It would make sense to me if you were the person who "gave" my character that lower face. Then I would of course continue the discussion. But I'm here not to convince you of anything in particular.
So I'll just leave this picture here. It's not for you. You don't have to bother discussing it. I'm done talking to you anyway.

The tracing is done sloppy, but I didn’t try too hard, because I know that even without these white lines everything is completely obvious.
But this picture is for you :) This is exactly how I see you in our wonderful, meaningless conversation. I wish you all the best and have fun adventures in 7.0.

Ahh, you've got me staring at those lips again. It's almost hypnotic at this point xD
Looking at the top lip, it looks the same to me just with a far less defined lip edge, and a lot of extra shadowing causing the lip to look 'flat' compared to what it was. The bottom lip I am less certain, as I said in my post. The very base of it seems to remain in the same position, but it's harder to see because of less definition between the lip itself and the shadow below it. That said, watching them together like that, there does appear to be less of a curve at the outer edges of that bottom lip. Perhaps it is structural in that sense. That said, the point still remains that it is like what we saw in the examples - examples which everyone praised upon release (and still seem to be praising, rather surprisingly?)
When players have been using same character for ages, it's very easy to perceive even minor changes to your character. Such as different eye position or shape.
And overall many are unhappy with the changes on lips and mouth. Combine the different eyes and mouth, your character gives quite different feeling than previously. :)
I'm rather jealous of the JP forums where everyone is providing feedback in an orderly and respectful manner. Meanwhile here we go full pvp and spend all our time arguing whether or not there is an issue, and if there is, if anything should be done about it. If you don't have a horse in this race, that is fine, but please, get off the tracks before you cause an accident.
I think a lot of this has to do with hindsight. In hindsight, yes I can immediately spot the alluded dimples in the official picture. But that's because I now recognise it due to the much clearer example from the player's benchmark screenshot.
The dimples here are so weird that they make the lower jaw almost seem like a marionette's jaw. Now that I know about it I can perceive it in the official picture too but the angle and - ha -the lighting in this picture seem so optimal and staged that it was easy to overlook without any knowledge or idea what it would possibly look like ingame most of the time.
And tbh I think it's just not reflective of what we see in the majority of the benchmark. Perhaps this means that in 5% of the lighting scenarios with perfectly soft, diffuse ambient light and that one perfect camera perspective certain characters will all look great. But what we have seen in the benchmark is real and reflective of what our ingame experience will be like. And for the most part it's nothing like in the official screenshot and a lot closer to what the other user is showing.
Also, please also keep in mind this is a different face option. (I don't know if it matters but it's the base used for Y'shtola too, so who knows, perhaps they were extra careful here to preserve her character.)
We know that some options are more affected than others. This face preset looking good does not negate all the examples where it went south.
For example some of the au ra may not look as mangled and marionette-like as the miqo in those screenshots but their faces still do look different.
So both may be true at the same time: they may look good from a technical perspective but they may also not look like your character because of the changed features.
That is my case tbh. I don't actually think my chars look bad at all in terms of technical presentation. They just don't look like themselves anymore. And personally that bothers me more.
...... hold on a second. The issue (well, AN issue) with that face (face 3) is that it went from being relatively slim to a little bit plumper. Not a lot, but enough to notice.
I have been complaining about how my cats face (face 2) went from being relatively plump to a little bit slimmer.
Did they just... mix up the base models of the faces somehow? Did someone save a reference model as the wrong name at some point, and the updated version got built using the wrong model as reference? That seems like a huge oversight, and probably not the case, but it seems curious that two faces right next to each other in the editor received the exact opposite changes of each other.
