I know it can't be done always, but as WHM you can try to fluid arua the ghosts in the tanks direction.
i use fluid aura too or just put them to sleep. a warriror friend of me use holmgang to pull these ranged monsters in his range. it's not that easy for a tank
I'm mentally done with Titan EX. -10/10 Do not want.
And not for the usual reasons such as being too hard.
Three reasons:
1.) Have you ever done something so many times that you actually get worse at it? (started having difficulty concentrated on things I've done a million times)
2.) Special Snow Flake Invasion
3.) Ultimate bad party chemistry supreme.
The only apologetic thing I have for the last run was accidently breaking the bard from his goal, into landslide. That was definitely not intended. I'm usually good about that. Sorry, Bard :( (and yes, I already realize what I said in party chat was ironic, if this is visible to that bard. I was just beyond irritated. Again, apologies). It takes something special to kill all and any patience in me, and that run did it from the very beginning.
I used to go in, have fun, not care if it wasn't beaten. I'm not there for clears or pony or whatever. Cleared ages ago and don't care about the pony.
It normally takes a lot to get me to the point of extreme frustration but this and the night before got me good. It just took a short sentence, both nights, to make me snap.
I say stupid things when I snap. -_-;;
The special snowflake thing is just the fact that there's -always- 'that guy' or two who refuse to stack and just not be part of the team. I don't understand why - everyone's goal is the same, so work the hell together. Originally I didn't care much if they did or didn't unless it was spread out enough that there were never anywhere to escape - only that I was listening to instruction to make people's lives easier, whether it be on BRD or WHM. Seeing both ends of the spectrum (healing and DPS), I can see why. And the party/Tank/healers screaming to stack starts. The response is always either silence + ignore or "his balls smell bad". Started getting tired of the stacking problem also, so I guess I'm seeing the descent into the "Stack!" madness for myself. Funny, since it's kind of a small thing if it's just one guy (and why do they always migrate to the left side??).
For this last run, though, it was a weird mix. From the beginning I don't even know wtf was going on.
Something about the MNK pissed me off from the start.
Pulled aggro, so Titan would turn and mountain buster the party.
More stacking issues - stacking being loose, so there was no real safe zone.
OT kept going on about getting water, every time we started over/after wipe, and sometimes during. I also don't know who the hell the OT was talking to half the time. He kept citing about not taking that tone with him because he's married....??? multiple times.
Titan was pulled regardless the OT said BRB - I can't tell if either the MT or the OT was trolling (though, considering he said it..... every time).
Chat was spammed repeatedly with nonsense.
MNK started spam parroting "Stack!" and getting stupid with my co-healer and I, even before I got pissed off (this includes while he was already landslid ages ago).
I think the other healer was just as confused and flustered as I was...
Soon after, said MNK decided to throw a tantrum by face pulling Titan and dragged him back to the group while we all just stood and stared (the terrible side of me was hoping he'd die faster). I don't know why the SCH bothered to heal him or raise him, it was a waste of mp and sanity. He then proceeded to try to kill the MT by standing in front with the MT. So MT was eating WoTLs and MNK was eating mountain busters.
The farthest we got was heart phase and usually just the tanks and healers left. Now and then a DPS, too.
Worst of it, I'd been gaol-killed, raised so I had no real MP, hard healing the tank with Shroud already on CD - and the other healer died.... I couldn't even raise them because I was running on mp fumes. Literally could only Cure 1 whenever it popped up just natural regen tick. Free Cure procs weren't even coming up to help me out. -_- I don't know why I even bothered, considering it was just healers/tanks again. Shoulda just jumped. I only mention this as 'worst part', as I was unable to get the SCH up as quickly as he had for me - and not sure he saw how much my MP was deader than a doornail.
IE, I was unable to return the favor, for the SCH, in a party that was clearly insane...
Completely unrelated, but, lately every time I go into WoD on MNK and I see another MNK in party (just because I become more aware of what the other person on the same job as I, are doing) I never see them using Fists of Fire...... or any of the stances >_> Something I don't know about? I can usually see which they're using...
I have a few, though I don't know that I can necessarily call most of them "horror" stories, just more like close calls from taking on too large of groups or because the tank wouldn't keep the aggro off me.....
The closest I have in reality is the one time I chose to prove myself to a few of my friends early in my experience with the game and convinced them to run Toto-Rak without a full healer with me filling the role as an Arcanist. It wouldn't have been so bad except for the fact that I had virtually none of my cross-class skills back then aside from Foresight and Surecast. We made it through with no deaths, though to be honest I still have no idea how I pulled it off, since I hadn't ever tried playing a full healing role in any dungeon prior to that.....
Yeah stand in the crystal light and it doesn't matter whether the ghosts are on you or not, the damage is pretty insignificant. I'm guessing you weren't in the light, I don't even think it's possible to die four times if you stay in the light, unless you have like every single mob on you.
Sorry but it does sound like you were the one who didn't know what they were doing
This isn't a horror story exactly, more of a confused healer story. I DF Titan story mode last night for fun, and it's 3 appropriate level players who seem to know each other as they were talking when I entered the party. So, as soon as the duty starts, I begin casting stoneskin, but the tank's not interested in that noise and rushes right in. That's annoying, but whatever. The bard spams an aoe until he runs out of tp I assume, then only autoattacks. The ninja hits titan a couple times, then runs a lap around the arena before either eating a landslide or coming back around and starting the process over again. Neither dps move out of the middle during the phase change, so they die when Titan lands. I go through 3 runs of this before I stop healing and just stand there in the middle with them watching the show. After another wipe I tell them if they're just going to goof off, I guess I will too. Then I promptly find myself standing on the beaches of Costa Del Sol, having been kicked from the duty. *shrugs* I still have no idea what was going on in there. So many questions that need answering. Did the bard think he was doing good spamming quick knock? Was the ninja just there for the exercise?
That's all horrible! It sounds like you could use a hug!
I haven't done Titan EX yet but I've studied the basic mechanics and what you had to deal with sounds like a mess. I couldn't do it. I would have left. lol
About MNK in WoD: MNKs are allowed in WoD? I thought they were the only class locked out of the Raid since I've never seen one in there yet. Joking aside, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't use it. This is WoD we are talking about. >>
The tooltip says that, but crystal veil reduces all damage significantly
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...emael-Darkhold
Ghosts are before first boss and after, so who knows
Those floaters are in other areas of the dungeon, beyond the crystal light area. They're in the cliff area with the toads. They're still a nuisance, even in the crystal area because they often interrupt cure casts.
You are right, though - the crystals do reduced damage when stood in, and not just for Eyes on Me. Tanks can pull big into them (such as the last area before the boss) and just barely receive scratches
That sounds like a terrible story... seriously... but there is still a question unresolved, what were you doing there then? O___o?
No need for the clear, and no interest in the ponie with nothing but stranger danger around... just for the lols? lols was the last thing you got (or ever get) there tho :/
Clearly, you do need a hug...
As for the MNK in WoD... Im puzzled myself, I've tried WoD to gear up some classes but... if I go MNK, there will be other MNK in party. If I go BLM, there will be other 3 BLM in party. If I go BRD its the same!!!
Yeah, coming from both sides it isn't easy at all for a tank with that stray add in DD. You can shield lob/tomahawk all you want, those things are not getting into the white floor. Fluid Aura, Holmgang, and/or sleep is perfect. I always have the provoke for that one ready because they like to hate the healers.
So, right now I'm facing having to rethink my crossbars and habits since I've started leveling at the Stone Vigil instance, so everyone hates me right now. Everything hits really hard now.
Yup ;_; I really really should have just left.... fast. By second wipe. *twitch*
I've never quit a duty without other causes (The last time I have, that I can even remember, was having parents call during Garuda EX and saying they were dropping by the apartment... and I needed to speed clean >.>;;;; ) but this... this was.... I don't know what this was. I have tons more patience for runs with multiple new people where they die or are landslid often x.x I felt like I was in some kind of nightmare, based on how incoherent most of the chat was.
Oh well, not going back for a while. Not till I get rid of this tick. *twitchtwitch*
LOL yeah, I don't see them in there, often, myself now that you mention it. But every now and then....
Except dhsjfs MNK drops seem to be rare -.-
Really just for the fun of it/boredom - a challenge or to test/force myself to get better at something, whether it be parts of a fight or just getting used to reacting faster to situations. There's a few pieces of the fight in there that I still want to perfect regarding one of the bomb sets that I regularly derp on.
I'll repeat the things I either find fun or challenge me (without being clear and total annihilation in the first five seconds) to improve myself. Probably a stupid idea of mine, but you can't get any better challenge than with pugs. I've seen a lot of stupid (and committed some accidental stupid, myself) in my DF spam. Just nothing's topped last night's party. >_>
Either way, I'm steering clear for a while unless someone asks for help >_>
*Lesson learned, puts self in the corner for a 5 minute timeout*
Ref to WoD - yeah, seriously o_O Been waiting on that Bard tabbard for ages, too D: Either it drops when I'm on MNK/WHM or the other BRD gets it D:
So bored of WoD, now....
Thank you, for your encouragemnt! I wont give up!
Actually, several players had warned me about this instance beforehand. It's actually funny since DD is so much less of a pain. And, my crossbar needed to be reorganized anyway, so I would have had to do it at some point.
I honestly have more trouble with Stone Vigil than I do any other dungeon I've played in, (including the Crystal Tower raids), and while I normally played DPS, the first time I tried healing there was absolute chaos. It's just one of those things where everything can go wrong very quickly, and of course, the first person that get's blamed is the healer. You just have to keep trying, and if you're like me then you'll have an easier time of it anywhere else you go.....
All the low-level stuff is easy, it was also easy in 2013. The hardest content then was WP/AK, which people farmed for tomes. Also people got super-upset if you didn't have full darklight gear, despite the fact that the Hard Mode dungeons that drop them were not yet introduced. So you had this situation where people didn't want to run AK because you didn't have darklight gear, but you can't get darklight gear without getting the tomes which people farmed AK for. You could only really get it by farming the Mainstream scenario dungeons. Exactly what people have to do now if they want to catch up.
LotA gives the most troll/carry nonsense. In the last 3-CT run to get the weekly reward, ST had the least amount of fail, while LotA had two DPS that took dirt naps, or locked themselves out of the boss room, every time, wiping the party when it was pointed out and missing a "pads!" moment. What was infuriating was that the carry also got all the gear, since the other DRG passed on it (it started with 3 DRG's, one dropped out after they didn't get a gear piece.)
WoD had the most "carry me"-woefully-undergeared players. I could go on about how three of the DPS were just perpetually dead in that first room, but it seems like only one of them actually didn't know the mechanics at all. That newbie to WoD entered with ilevel 50/60 gear on several left-hand slots and kept getting them one-shot'ed by mechanics that would only do 60% damage to the other DRG's. After this was pointed out amazingly they stopped dying after wiping on Cloud of Darkness since nearly everyone ignored the mechanics up to that point. This is why WoD seems hard (it's really not,) because players try to faceroll through it like they do on other dungeons by doing the minimum necessary to get through it the fastest.
I've honestly never had trouble with WoD except for one run I had last night where we just got an absolute terrible combination of people. Beyond that, I've found it to be remarkably easy compared to how people always talk about it. The only hard fight in the entire thing is the second boss fight, which is the one with the Flying Eye, and that's only hard because there's so many instant kill mechanics that you have to watch out for. As for the other two, I find ST to be the most annoying, but not bad, and I've honestly only run LotA once when I was progressing the quest line. That one run we had trouble with the first boss because people didn't understand the mechanics, (it was one of the few times I've actually read up on a run before hand because I was nervous), but once we got past it we didn't have any trouble.....
I'm just saying this because I still have trouble when I run SV with a DF group. Even if everyone knows the run, something always manages to go wrong for me. This is probably just a bad luck factor on my part, but because of it, I'd rather run the CT runs over SV any day.....
Lucky x_x I've had runs where the derp was so strong, all three alliances wiped at the chimeras.
That's right. The first trash mob.
A complete wipe.
*Twitch*
I don't even know how that was managed (besides freezing everyone...). It was like watching a slow motion train wreck.
Tonight's DF run for Thyrus was nightmar-ish.
Titan HM: co-healer dies, I do whatever it takes to keep everyone alive, but SMN and BLM still die. I die at the last second wotl, but it's still a clear. 1 commendation because... because? Timed almost every AoE heal right, but no.
Ifrit HM: same co-healer, a wipe because tanks didn't bother interrupting Eruptions. Then co-healer dies yet again. Solo heal through everything, die at the last second, a clear. Ah yes, he for no reason overwrote my Proshell and Stoneskin II x.x In both Titan and Ifrit. No idea why.
Garuda HM: I write brb, return to the laptop... they started without me. Still, somehow cleared it, although no one really bothered to clear plumes. Bleh. At least, I didn't need to solo heal.
...And then I realized that Titan HM needed to be the last one in the chain...
I have noticed this A LOT lately. I'll cancel my cast for Protect if the other WHM is casting so I SC > SS. And when their Protect was done they would cast SS as well... Sometimes as a hard cast... Why? Or I'll get both up before they even start to cast Protect but they'll still cast them. Why? Do they not see that everyone already has them? It's irritating.
http://oi62.tinypic.com/wb5aq8.jpg
This. Fucking. Queue.
And, no. I didn't get in. I was at 105 minutes and we lost all of the DPS and all but 1 tank. So I decided to give up. Why is doing the weekly so difficult?
Same here. I'll protect + SC SS2 and then... the other healer does both over again o_o What, was mine not good enough? u_u /hmmph
I think it's just a certain unawareness or plain distracted.
I'll admit to sometimes SC SS2 out of sheer habit when the other healer starts hard casting SSII, but I usually apologize for it. Protect + SC + SSII.... if I start casting Protect and the other hasn't really begun SSII by late in the protect cast, my brain just follows through with the rest of my routine :/
Tell me about it. Don't even get me started on what I had to deal with just to get WoD done today. Let's just say it took about 2 hours and 2 of my attempts were so bad we abandoned on Angra.
I do too. It's just habit and isn't as bad as when they hard cast both spells for no reason. It's harder to cancel a SC SS2, and since SS2 takes so long to cast... It just blows my mind.
I wasn't the healer for this group, but I imagine the healer had a field day having to deal with the NIN I got grouped up with.
So, it was on expert roulette earlier today. The run went decently for the most part, except for the NIN that ran ahead of the tank for the WHOLE DUNGEON, trying to rush it even though we were going at a good pace already. They even ran so far ahead at one point all I saw was a "SHIT" in the pt chat and their hp steadily depleting while they were nowhere in sight. smh
On top of that, despite forcing us to take on more mobs at a breakneck pace, they never attempted to drop an AOE on huge groups of mobs. That's fine, I can pick up the AOE slack pretty well on SMN. Adjusting to different party dynamics is all part of the job.
Through the whole dungeon the NIN was basically playing like a solo player and not like they were in a dungeon with other people. I asked them just before the last boss "<player name>, why do you keep running ahead?" They respond just with "I don't know". So I drop it. Whatever, the dungeon is almost done anyway and it isn't really that big a deal at this point.
Last boss ends with little incident. Then before we exit, they add "I rush ahead cause I carry DPS. ;D"
I'm just like "... lol anyway, thanks for the run." Not even gonna mention your AOE DPS is atrocious and my AOE's + healer Holy's were carrying YOU through the massive pulls you forced us to take on lmao. Gave the healer my comm because bless her heart for having to deal with that damage sink the whole way through. :'(
Dungeons are not all about you pumping out higher numbers than your teammates. They're about WORKING WITH YOUR TEAM TO COMPLETE THE OBJECTIVE. Dungeons are not meant to be solo content, and even IF your DPS is the best in the group, you are not a one man party.
I appreciate others responding (accurately) to this response. The souls killing me repeatedly were after the blue light areas, and they focus hate on magic. I did push them towards the tank and slept them repeatedly, but healing the tank when they army pull is supposed to be my main priority, so when they refuse to pick them off of me, there isn't much I can do. Add to that the fact that DPS were taking damage as well from AOE like a bunch of morons and I was screwed. And again, this was towards the end of the dungeon where I was fed up and wondering if I was missing something. I have done DD several times since then with FC and it went PERFECTLY without a SINGLE casualty. Blame me if you want, but I think the numbers show who was at fault.
WTF is going on with bad tanks lately? Yes, this again. -___-
I get into Wander's Palace HM for my roulette and get blamed for the tank dying twice. We were literally only fighting the first 2 condors as left overs from the first ochu thing. He died in like 10 seconds... He was at max HP when the ochu dropped then he died. Then he pulled everything up to the first vine thing and was taking so much damage my DS Cure II had trouble keeping him up. Seriously. I casted Cure II on him, then Regen (since he was at max health). Within the time it took me to cast another Cure II he was down to 25% HP. I casted Cure II and then he died shortly after. I used Bene at the start of the fight after only 1 Holy since he dropped to like 2k HP. He slapped me after his first death, called me trash after we wiped, ad then I got kicked. I told him that it's ot my fault he's taking so much damage, and that I should be able to DPS. I shouldn't have to sit there an heal him after every hit. I was already having issues today with the game and then this happens. The thing I don't understand is that I know I'm not terrible and I've had many, many compliments yet these people seem to automatically consider me trash for literally no reason.
I'm ilvl 120 (with ilvl 130 weapon). If my Divine Seal Cure II is having trouble keeping you alive then there is an issue, and it's not with me.
Dayum. o_o He was probably sitting directly under the vines and got their debuff on top of getting slapped repeatedly - on top of other possible issues if he took that much damage (broken or low level gear, no defensive CDs, etc).
Maybe it's better you got kicked, if the tank is that squishy/stupid. >_> Saves you from some continuing grief x.x
./soothe
Sounds like someone doesn't quite understand how emnity works :P hehe.
He must have had quite a poor gear too. I was helping a friend yesterday, tanking in Roulette Exp - AK - for the first time. I was healing him. He still had a bunch of the i55 blue gear one gets from the job quests, a few i100 from Mor Dhona and some STR jewels. And the basic non-upgraded with sands i100 weapon. All that for a total of around 6,5/7k hp.
And despite all this gear, I had absolutely no trouble keeping him alive. He was taking big shots, true, but nothing my DS/C2/Regen couldn't handle. He was using cooldowns.
It made the difference with the one you had probably. Didn't time them too well, as he's still in the process of learning, but at least he used them.
We didn't take more than 4/5 mobs at once. There was only death twice. First he didn't know he could be targeted by the first boss, and cumulated 7 stacks of "thunder" against the first boss and didn't t hide fast enough, making it impossible to heal. And right before the last boss's room, where you have to kill the enemy in the order they appear. Somehow he got one-shot here. Except that, with a bit of coordination, it went quite smooth.
Your tank must have been pretty terrible for you not to be able to keep up with the cures...
Thanks guys. I'm feeling better now. After that fail of an instance I queued up for another and got Keeper. It was incredibly smooth and I walked away with 2 comms. :)
Have you honestly not noticed this? That casting heals immediately grabs their hate while it doesn't as much with other mobs? Maybe it isn't magic in general, but I'm not the only one who noticed these mobs have a tendency to hate healers. I agree, sounds like someone doesn't know how enmity works. :)
Kinda a combo here a horror followed by goodness
Garuda Ex… so much derpage happened on this one (and not from the healers; me and Sas) People where taking so much unnecessary damage that I had to tunnel real hard on just healing. We were throwing everything we had up and everyone should have been ok but that run was just a little bit special. The sad thing was it was a premade party and I think we mighta been better off with a pug party in the end the trial was abandoned.
ST
Not really a horror here I must be getting somewhat better with my SCH walked away with 3 comms
Please stop
This is outright wrong, these mobs act no differently to any others in the game. As DarkerOrange says, if the tank (or anyone else) does not hit them at all, they will not establish any kind of hate on them, so the only one with any hate will be you when healing, and so you will pull agro. it honestly has nothing to do with you being healer, or mage, or whatever.
I'm probably going to regret this, since I hate arguments. >_> Especially when they don't need to be so volatile.
I have noticed that the floaties (sorry, memory does not serve me well, ever, for names) will be flashed/are tagged BUT still turn to me in a heartbeat after, for say, a single heal or a regen. Yes, I'm fully aware of enmity. This is also possibly because nothing is followed up on them right after a flash, from being a distance away - BUT, that would also mean the other mobs not being hit at the time by tank or DPS should have done the same thing and yet don't - hence my suspicion that I mentioned earlier... but it could just be that their hate table is a bit tweaked or the tank is rotatingly slapping everything at least once (but I highly doubt this).
So, yes, I have seen them immediately switch after being tagged. Reason? Ionno. Possibly just wasn't enough enmity caused by the flash for that monster - or your ilvl is outstripping the tank's single flash.
In any case, just best to sleep or waterball the little pains in the ass x_x
Lets just leave it at that
The comical levels of derpage in Garuda EX would be hilarious, if not for the fact that it happens for a dozen times and you are getting nowt out of the fight except decaying gear and time you will never recover. For the record, I’ve been trying the fight on both Duty Finder and Party Finder, with – to my surprise – scarcely any noticeable difference in competency levels of either of them.
The last two tries on DF really took the cake. You know Murphy’s Law: anything that can possibly go wrong will more often or not actually go wrong? I bet Murphy never contemplated the additional factor of the same things going wrong over and over again despite the fact that everyone should have got the message after the first bizarre wipe.
Penultimate attempt on DF:
1) Spiny Plume decided to kick the bucket way too early, culminating in Garuda coming down and annihilating us all in one fell swoop. Half the party was left bewildered. Who the heck killed Spiny?
2) Spiny Plume faced another startlingly short life – as did we – as Garuda came down on us once again to hug us to death. It transpired that the Summoner’s Garuda-Egi was on Sic and had been attacking Spiny all along. We tell the Summoner to put their pet on Obey.
3) …Spiny Plume died too early AGAIN, though this time we finally got to the whirlwind phase following the rocks. This time, no one admitted it. Summoner vehemently denied it. Maybe someone’s Limit Break did it, which would have been unlikely given that Spiny was on the other side of the arena.
4) Something happened and next thing I knew (I was too busy tightening my buttcheeks and tunnel-vision healing, because EVERYONE was taking absurd levels of damage for some reason), Garuda and Chirada came over to the healers’ corner and took both of us out.
Last attempt on DF:
1) As if some cosmic entity was trolling me, someone killed Spiny Plume way too early again. There was no Summoner pet going berserk this time; we genuinely had no idea who did it. It’s very possible the off-tank auto-attacked Spiny to death, who knows…
2) Spiny was killed a tad too early – before Garuda had properly jumped out of the arena. The Dragoons were smote by the AoEs generated by Spiny upon death before they could even make it into the barrier, and by the time Garuda had come back down with Aerial Blast, the barrier dissipated and we fell like dominos.
3) I don’t even know what happened. I remember running into Spiny’s barrier, but a couple of seconds later, we all fell down.
4) Absolute chaos, even though we were actually doing rather well! We got her HP down to around 15%. Cue whirlwinds again and absolute confusion over what to do with the Olsen twins. I saw DPSs die from walking across whirlwinds and next thing I knew, the three of the beauty queens were roaming around the arena, slapping us to death a group at a time. Turns out? Someone didn’t have Shield Oath on!
Twelve help me. I just want some chance of grabbing her pony…
