[Suggestion] Fashion/Vanity Slots.

you know, this wouldn't be a problem if they didn't force "Required" gear down our throats months back which was done to make jobs and classes stand out more. the same thing should apply here i don't want to see a mage in heavy darklight gear, there needs to be restrictions.

I like the idea, but we will have so many in AF it's going to be a bit.. meh.

what are the arguments against? People wear silly things. Well people will continue to wear silly things regardless of the system in place. Fafnir will still be fought against with the resident Santa outfit and screenshots will be had. I might not do it, but I will fight to the death the right for someone else to. Who's to say that our own gear might not be appropriate for whatever thing we are trying, except for the members of our own party?

Its mostly for the sake of role playing. Some like to create a character and story behind their avatar, instead of just looking at it simply as an avatar. Simply the outfit itself really helps them get into the character. My reason mostly is because I don't like to wear yellow rubber kitchen gloves over Dark Knight body armor. I overall like to show off in the latest and best gear, but sometimes there is simple dungeon loot that looks funny on me and like to alter it so it won't be an eyesore to "me".

I think the biggest complaint of the system so far is that people take advantage of it for certain situations like PvP or wearing something ridiculous for comedic purposes.

While to me, I truly think that people who don't like it should just deal with it, at the same time, its no harm on my end if they want some toggle switch. Like it shouldn't hinder their experience, it shouldn't hinder my experience if they see me in yellow rubber kitchen gloves. Of course the heavy role player would say otherwise, but its so hard to make everyone happy nowadays, right?

Its a me me me me me person they don't give a shit about what anyone else wants as long as there happy everyone else can piss off. its best to just sigh at the amount of selfishness and move on.

I'm just gonna drop my final thoughts on how the vanity slots should work here. People who agree can like it, and people who don't can go typing away.

I know I agreed with the toggle option earlier, but if the system is implemented well the toggle option is better off not being there... since it really does directly oppose the existence of the vanity slots: to separate how your character looks from how well he/she is geared.

As for how the vanity slots should work without a toggle option:

1. They should be limited by the same class/job/level requirements as the primary slots
2. Seasonal event items (reindeer, dream, etc.) cannot be equipped on vanity slots.

Considering the lenient requirements for class/job on most crafted gear, and the existence of recommended level gear, which work perfectly fine as vanity, this won't be very limiting at all but at the same time not completely destroy the feeling of the game.

However, putting that to one side, i fail to understand what would occur in the event of an entire partys' actual gear turning out to be a matching ensemble of Grand Company apparel, with weapon display turned off. What on earth would become of our class distinction?! How would we ever be able to tell who's who and what's what?! Oh wait. That's right, we can look at the party list and see everyone's job in the convenient form of an icon.

I'm extremely for the toggle function, as it seems the most logical and simplest of solutions to appease everyone's preference (and any such lack of ability in deducing someone's class). Nevertheless, it seems to me the majority of arguments for moderate to heavy restrictions on this feature are based merely on the flimsy premise of personal taste.

The funny thing is, a vanity system also takes the prestige out of people beating difficult content with event/gimmick gear.

A party that worked hard beating Moogle battle decked out in Reindeer gear - a novel achievement -- becomes entirely meaningless with a vanity system.

I am confused by something about people not wanting to see a caster in heavy armor.

What MMO, besides The final fantasy series, doesn't have a white mage/cleric/priest type in heavy armor? And not being good with maces of some kind?
