Healer Confessions

I admit I have a shameful habit of letting tanks die because I often like to see how close to 1HP I can get them before healing them.

Been playing since 1.0...I need excitement. This is how I obtain it. Murder. Murdering the tanks for my experiments.

I've done this accidental drag/dropping so many times with random skills.... usually when I'm mouse clicking skills that aren't in my immediate keybind 1-5 + mouse1/mouse2 extra buttons. And then shit happens. And my finger holds too long while I'm suddenly in a mad dash to be/click elsewhere. Or sometimes while I'm mouse-turning the view really fast while my cursor is too low/close to the hotbars.

I've done it to heals, aoe heals, regen/aspected, Royal Road...... and once on MNK, I just completely dragged the first skill in the chain of rotation, and became massively confused... (and incredibly idle). >___> I don't even remember why (probably when I first messed up my left hand's ringfinger and had to mouse click everything since the rest of my hand was donated to re-training in moving.... with all the wrong fingers on the WASD setup >_> It feels exceedingly weird to steer with your thumb). I don't remember the when, only the "wtf????"

Happened so frequently (at least once every two weeks?) that now when I feel that confusion, or notice at the last second, I just pound the 'P' button to open skills (then the challenge is finding it in the pile, while trying to dodge AoEs and/or heal the party.... and hope no one needs that missing button >.>;;; )

I probably should lock those hotbars some time. >_>

I have a friend who mains DRG and was levelling her WAR for a while as I leveled my AST. I used to play the game of "let's see how close to dying Cherry can go." I had so much fun! I think the record was 27 HP, out of 4000ish

She didn't like that game :D

Fixed that for you.

I'm guilty of not cancelling my Aero III on time so I do a WHM pull to start boss fights. Mostly when tanks do readychecks then afk for drinks.

In my case I do that for balance
I cannot live with so much benefic or heal done
I need to have blood on my hand
White healer or holy healer are boring

Only the blood of my comrade are good enough...

That's why I love dragoon...

Anyone else pull LB3 even though you know the party is gonna wipe anyway just to look at and take screenshots?

Ugh, met someone like this about an hour ago - tanking Brayflox norm DF, and I'm geared for Dzemeal at this point, so not overly squishy - but constantly watching my health go to the 2-5% margin before being healed by the AST is not fun, and I imagine less so in the actual harder content. Granted, I didn't die, but a few too many close shaves. Didn't help that the DPS liked to play "Which mobs can we peel from the tank before he's even rounded them up for flash" mode, so lack of healing spliced with occasional chaos. Eventually I gave up chasing if they overnuked unmarked - figured the healer was bored enough to heal more than one if playing that silly game.

As long as they keep you alive it's all good. I don't really panic regardless if my HP is low or high as a tank. I know that I can work with any HP bar as a healer as long as my incoming damage estimation skills and cooldown timing is accurate. I personally set a 30% HP tolerance threshold as critical and 40% HP as a sign to top off, although not as much if it is just 1 weak mob.

I play like I'm comfortable with my party at all times and don't hassle too much if we do wipe - which is really practically never unless the DPS doesn't do the mechanic or the fight drags on too long.

I fully admit I let my tanks get to 50% or less because I'm putting dots on, then I switch out of CS and heal them to full. I've had tanks cure themselves (GLA/PLDs) and THM/BLM or ACNs Cure/Physick them. But as someone who mains tank I know how much damage they can take and as someone who's been running all three healing jobs at 60 I have a pretty good grasp of when to heal and when to dps.
