Worse than that, citizen. I'd say she's more akin to Jar Jar Binks.
The dark times will pass.
Absolutely.
The best save SE can do now, is to do a Haurchefant on Poochie. Write in a way to kill the character off. Of course, she doesn't deserve sympathy, so I am thinking more like that M-Tribe neko with the bombs? Something comical to explode her?
I think we would cheer on that event, especially if we got a "Windup Poochie Rug" minion as a quest reward after she bit the big one.
Same here. I'm leveling my jobs and sending out my subs. I just don't have the energy to listen to Wuk Lamat anymore.
Wish I could say there were some memorable things up until the level 95 quests, but there wasn't a moment.
If SE wants to make up for this awful MSQ, then everyone should get a free MSQ story skip.
I swear that if this game allowed us to kill NPCs, I would had thrown Wuk Lamat out of the ship right after the expansion started and let her drown. Also, in my head, my WoL was regretting the whole time not being on Koana's team. And I, the player (like many others it seems), had to almost constantly force myself to play through the MSQ. Something that I had never felt before in FFXIV. Even Lyse was not this bad, as I could still tolerate to have her around.
Wuk Lamat acts like that annoying person that always NEEDS to be the center of attention. I agree that that's what makes people dislike her, far above the rest of her personality traits (and lore incongruencies, like her power increase out of the blue in comparison to other more experienced characters), because it forces us to deal with those all the time. Yes, girl, we've already seen you, and you're so cool, and fabulous, and strong. And I know that you hate this, and that over there too. Now please, shut up and go away for at least 5 minutes. Stop pushing yourself onto everyone else to be the protagonist, and give me some goddamn space. FFS, she even managed to get into the last trial, after I was already thanking Sphene for sending her away. Worse than leeches, I tell you.
I just hope that I never have to see or deal with her ever again. If after this point the story requires us to talk with anyone in charge in Tural, let it be Koana, Gulool Ja and/or the folks at Oblivion, or literally anyone else. But for the love of all that's holy, have some mercy and don't force us to suffer Wuk Lamat (again).
I played the game in Japanese, by the way. And if the character felt this bad, I don't ever want to experience how it was with the terrible English VA.
While Lyse is often compared, I think Wuk's situation also a lot like Minfilia now that i think of it.
- She was also a character that intended to be love and adore by the players.
- She was constantly simped by the NPC. The Scion back then couldn't really stop singing her praise.
- She suffered from bad design - the legendary pray return to the walking sand meme).
- She suffered from bad writing - instead of being seeing as a strong and effective leader Minfilia was seen as a weak and useless leader that treat the players like an errant boy. (hey, just like Wuk).
- The only positive meme about her was her butt.
I always think the reason she was sent to the first at the end of 2.xx was because SE realized they can't have such an unpopular character to remain as the heart of the Scion. They let her story cool down for 2 expansion than give her an decent send off. And frankly, I think Wuk is even more unpopular than Minfilia. So who know, it's not like it's unprecedent, if the pressure built and SE realize Wuk is a deadend, our wish of seeing her disappear one way or another is not exactly unreasonable or inconceivable.
Knowing how SE listens to feedback and their sunshine and rainbows twitter bubble, we will probably see more Wuk Lamat in the patch quests and next expansion
Which saddens me to say, I'll be leaving this game permanently if that happens

(Dunno if this has been used yet, friend sent it to me last night. lol)
Minfilia didn't quite bother me much because we were just an adventurer and she was a window into a larger and more complex world. Generally, in this game, the ones that became my favorite characters waited their turn and had a great moment where virtue was shown. Thancred's fight with Ranjit being one of the ones that stood out for me. I never cared for him before that and that was the best moment of SB for me. Wuk Lamat on the other hand has no virtues and nothing to teach you. She's not worthy of giving the Scions orders or leading us. So it is terrible to have her shoved down our throats and have every character affirm her and constantly tell her how great she is. Especially when we know she is not. And it sucks even more to have the player's character essentially be uninvolved in the story.
Many will. Most people hate the voiceacting. Recast the VA or just dont make us interact at all. If you must make it unvoiced and only a few lines. Give us someone better and new to interact with.
(I see we went from 100 pages to 40 lol. Shame mods. Shame. Just because you don’t like our opinions doesnt mean we are wrong)
Are you sure you didn't just change the amount of posts per page? This threads been at 43-44 pages for me for a while and it hasn't changed today.
The story telling in Dawntrail is kind of more similar to the storytelling in any of the FF11 expansions. If you played FF11 you know that you always are helping a female protagonist in each expansion. Your character isn't really the hero but a bystander that is an observer that helps the heroine with fetch quest being their bodyguard ect. It kind of felt like I was playing more of a FF11 story this time around.
Minfilia was like a supervisor for early scions. Not very skilled but she assigned us tasks or distribute the workload. Thats it.
Wuk Lamat on the other hand, an intern turned employee turned manager turned CEO turned investor in a single patch. And we dont get paid for it for suppossedly "helping her grow" aka just standing around watching her doing stupid stuffs and be cringe all the time.
They don’t have to go that far.
I absolutely hate Wuk Lamat but I can see that there are people who like her.
That would be a slap in the face like it was to us.
It would really be already enough to use here less in the future and maybe give our WoL some snarky answers to her.
I’m not asking for more. Just less screentime and breathing room from her.
That’s also my fear but I’m getting more hopeful every day.
They took a risk and split the player base. The critique of her smothering everything even comes from the side of those who liked the story and the content creators are also pretty loud about that and the Japanese even louder because being so personal so fast with the nickname is not liked there if a few comments are any indication.
Square listened to the feedback with the keeper fangs for example.
They know what gives them money.
If the double down on her then I may also take my leave because then it becomes apparent that there is some kind of meddling behind the scenes.
I can’t see Yoshida and co actually ignoring the potential losing of customers.
If they do it they deserve more than a slap in the face.
Then the game can and should fail because it is no longer designed for a huge part of the customers and yes, even r/ff14 has comments about this here NOT being a vocal minority like for example with the endwalker story.
They tried something new and it failed. Now let’s see how they handle it. Even just a little recognition of the criticism would probably help.
As annoying as Wuk Lamat was at times, at least she was likeable in other scenes, an improvement over Zero who was dull.
People are crying about Wuk Lamat get used to it, Square finished with EW a huge Book the new Expansion is like ARR its the first start of a ramp up and sorry to say but ARR was the worst story/mmo experience i ever had so it wasnt great either, so just give it some time to actually ramp up again and build a fundament and wuk lamat will be a part of it if you like it or not, im more disappointed that the scions are already in the story, i really hoped the new start of a story makes room to get rid of the god damn pain in the ass scions and the god damn twins but sadly not.
I love how this xpac being the beginning of a new story has almost nothing to do with complains about Yawntrail. Like both Dawntrail and ARR did an extremly bad job at building any considerable ammounts of important lore for the next story bits. Both have the same issue of sending you on endless/useless fetchquest that wont ever matter in the lore in the end. Just look at the infamous company of heros quest. That 4 levels worth of fetchquest , 1 dungeon and 1 trials just to get some basic irrelevant lore that are repeat of what you kinda already learn with Ifrit and Garuda. They never did anything of importance with that lore, they didn't build anything.
Well, at least, so far, Wuk Lamat hasn't graced us with her presence in the raid.... yet
She's even mentioned in most of the side quests it's actually driving me insane. She's not even here bro. My character goes out of his way to help these people and gets called Wok Lmaos companion most of the time. It's got to the point where I'm happy if they say his name.
Imagine if the phase transition for m4s part 2 is wuk lamat sneaking up on the boss with a metal chair and finishing her off, inserting herself again as the second half of the fight all while the announcer hypes her up as another upstart. I tried to draw it in paint to show what I mean but it ended up looking like spurdo sparde
Hey im gonna ask u a question where on this doll did Wuk Lamat touch you? Don't worry this place is a safe space she won't know you snitched. All jokes tho. Chill breath relax go touch grass.
I love how Yawntrail is further cementing how toxic the community actually is ,and all that positivity stuff is a farce since u have ppl like this and man baby.
Yeah Wuk Lamat sucks, this is start of 10 years if the writing is this piss poor it means they learned nothing repeating the past mistakes does not make it better it just keeps proving a point ppl have with the game.
Also this community toxic positivity is literally just as bad as the toxic behavior. Chill it with the venom just cause someone doesn't like your furry mom doesn't give you right to throw ppl down. Many of you don't like zenos. I do but i'm not gonna sit here hunting ppl down like im terminally online....thats what basement dwellers and ppl with no amount of social skills do...
[QUOTE=Zakuyia;6539887]Hey im gonna ask u a question where on this doll did Wuk Lamat touch you? Don't worry this place is a safe space she won't know you snitched. All jokes tho. Chill breath relax go touch grass.
She didnt touch me, i rather dont care about her, i just think its funny to see how a good amount people here behave like the life depends on the story. Yea its not a great Story thats something i can accept but in the end its hard to build something great like the previous story was when people only complain about everything, just get used to wuk lamat, get used to the slow boring story beginning and wait maybe the post expansion story will be better and goes in the right direction and pls square get finally rid of the twin and this weird graha tia
I was gaslighting myself until msq lv 94 that things would get better and that Wuk Lamat isn't that bad, that's how much in denial I was regarding the deteriorating quality of the MSQ. Not once in my 10 years of playing have I ever had the urge to go do something else than MSQ on expansion launch but this time I used any excuse in the book to do literally anything else. Tried my hardest to like her and to excuse the poor writing, blatant pushing of undeserved fanservice (thinking you're part of Wols family has to be peak delusion), shoehorning her into every scene under the sun, ridiculous power-ups that go directly against the narrative from 2 quests ago and delegating the player character to be Wuk Lamats personal servant. I was surprised they didn't force a romance plot at this point, was fully expecting it with her knocking on WoLs door every 5 seconds. As soon as the 2nd half of the msq started and Wuk lamat invites herself into the party again, was the point where I fully lost it.
Genuinely, I do not understand how anyone can excuse this bad writing, the fanfictions I've written a decade ago have more substance and logic than this shoddy excuse of a story.
Wuk Lamat is one thing, the story itself isn't well written either, even without her in the picture. And the fact that they have to re-use the emotional punch from Shadowbringers and Endwalker to make us feel /anything/ should be telling how even the writers themselves didn't think that Dawntrail could stand on its own two feet. New beginning of a story on a totally new continent? Let's do Amaurot for the 3rd time now. Which wouldn't be as egregious IF they at least gave the 2nd half of the msq enough room to breath and establish itself but it was all rushed to the max. And I say that as someone who is in favor of exploring more shards and new worlds, I like my drama and epic adventure fantasy, a boring holiday season was never something I was looking forward too but I would have taken a boring beach episode over the mess we got in the end. At least a beach episode would ensure interesting character dynamics, just as we've gotten in Heavensward and ShB/EW, something that was completely missing from this expansion. No emotional scenes, no 1on1 with our old companions, Krille forgotten for 90% of the plot. Erenville reduced to Wuk Lamats 2nd babysitter. Sad.
The patches have to up their quality immensely for me to not quit on the spot until the next expansion.
I guess we should just keep throwing our money at SE and eat the crap they serve us. I'm all for constructive criticism and giving devs the benefit of the doubt, they're not superhumans after all, but story, the one thing that is universally praised about the game, taking a massive dive into the dumpster should be alarming to anyone who cares about the game.
I went into this expansion liking Wuk Lamat. By the end of the MSQ, I keep desperately hoping she's not going to end up joining the Scions or something somehow, since she's ran rampant over everything else in this expansion so far. Sick of seeing her, sick of hearing her voice. Go away, house cat.
I swear, I was sighing over that too.
I'm trying to do aether current side quests, and they go "Ah you were with Poochie, weren't you?"
I'm a lalafell, literally something that is not common in Tural, and that's my claim to fame, being Poochie's accesory?
Please SE, give me the ability to punch the shins of friendly NPCs ... please.
You can't believe how happy I am that we didn't get Wuked in the Raid Storyline so far...
But...I admit it, I was scared. At every cutscene, I was already expecting the worst. When the moment came where the speech bubble read "familiar voice" I was like 'Please god no don't do this to me. Don't let it be HER.'
Yes. Wok Lmao scares me with her power to destroy a story.
Agreed. I gotta say, at this point I'm just happy she didn't self-insert without rhyme or reason into the raid story. Considering half of the quests she was in she had no place being there... You forced us to help you become a ruler, be a ruler and leave me alone to adventure.
At the beginning I wasn't fond of her but I found her kinda entertaining I guess. Jokes were a bit cringe but at a fine level. Then I had to babysit this child. When I finally got time off, she was stuffed in my face again. Hand-holding time. A bit of freed- Nope. And again. And again. So much I had a nightmare that involved "Talk to Wuk Lamat." Every time I do some sidequests and they mention her I facepalm. Dear NPC, if you want me to help you, don't mention her ever again please.
The problem is that Wuk Lamat didn't feel like a "secondary protagonist". That role fell on the WoL, and on top of that it makes other more important character arcs like Krile's and Erenville's be like side quest fodder. That's what's making people get tired of the bad things that this character has (including the inconsistencies, since she's the biggest offender by a long mile), and it effectively ruins the whole expansion. An expansion that, despite not being perfect at all, would had been okay-ish without her constantly being pushed to the focus, since that would had meant that other characters and their stories would had been able to get more screen time. I'm not saying that that would had guaranteed that the story was good, but that not being there DID make the story worse.
No one can deny that, since it's obvious what the common denominator (and not just a symptom) of almost all the problems in the story is. People are right to voice their discontent over it, and you're on your right to just ignore the "whining" and your self-perceived real life issues if you don't like it. At least if that's your whole argument to defend that Wuk Lamat's writing is not at the very core of the problem. We can't fix what's wrong if we don't point what exactly is wrong, and you can't blame people's feedback on the writers not listening.
Or it could be that most players of ff14 give the story the most importance and are angry if that fails.
I also don‘t get the slow beginning stuff.
There was none. The story escalated at the middle. The only new beginning was the new continent and the Key. The rest is just a self contained story.
People complain because the writing is horrible and because Wuk Lamat could have a big sign on the head saying „I am Dawntrail“.
She more or less IS the story.
No one would have minded a new beginning in the form of ARR and no one expected EW stakes.
What we wanted was ARR stakes and EW level of writing.
Instead they went for ARR writing and EW stakes with a new WoL more or less.
I expect them to actually hold a certain level of quality writing instead of regressing.
New writers is not an apology for a big company like SE.
