They took it a step further, too. Why do we need ears when we have hair?

"we're going to devote resources to making an NPC so you can voluntarily pay us back for our mistake if you got a housing plot but already accepted a refund. wtf is a Hrothgar and why are they angry?"
What... Why is this happening? My race gets a hotfix for bedhead and while they are getting dislodged karen haircuts with NO EAR? O.o Excuse me?
Dude that sucks, and honestly they need better hair cuts. Not looking like Karen want a bes
I have admittedly thought about changing back to Miqo’te at times since it would at least feel like a more complete and less excluded race… but I like playing as a furry race much more. The lack of equal support would definitely lead to more potion sells though.
The bad news: My schedule suddenly became a lot more open than it was.
The good news: My schedule is now a lot more open than it was.
I've finished up typing my script and checking what does/doesn't count as fair use regarding Square's stuff with a lawyer friend who deals with this sort of crap. I do need a nice set of video editing software for doing the stupid, nerdy, pointless video essay I keep threatening to bore you folks with. I used to like iMovie for this, but I'm not on a Mac any longer. Anyone have any favorite bits of software they like for what's basically a powerpoint deck with some animated sequences?
Hopefully they'll have more to say about the hairstyles ion the next live letter. I think there has been more than enough disappointment that they need to at least say more about what to expect.
Doubtful. Unless they literally start designing and modeling at least one new hairstyle right now and expect it to be released by 6.2, I'd say it's clear that, as far as they're concerned, they already said everything that had to be said - ie, "it's too hard" and "expect less hairstyles...eventually" as if the past 3 years hadn't been a waste of time for all Hrothgar players who were patiently waiting with their hopes up.
I'd like to say maybe by 7.0, because Hrothgals, but.....ehhh......that may be opening a can of worms that belongs on another thread.
I fully expect them to reiterate just how difficult they find making Hrothgar hairstyles to be, while giving them the same styles they gave Viera in 6.1. Please look forward to it.
When I heard "just pretend the ears are hidden in the hair", I just:

Edit: just to clarify, I'm Chris and SE is the ones laughing in the back
Yoshi-P: we're so busy, we cannot acknowledge Hrothgar's concerns. also Yoshi-P: grinds to Crystal rank in Crystalline Conflict on all Japanese data centers
I still wonder how Yoshi was so legitimately confused from the player response about the whole thing...
As much as I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, his tone deaf response says he was not expecting the huge backlash he received for this update. Quite the opposite really. I think he was expecting 1 of 2 things
1. No one would care
2. (this seems unlike him) I think he expected to receive thanks for the minimal effort put into the update (since the tone deaf response from some of the game's players seem to praise him for the very dirt he walks on)
Por que no los dos?
1. People made a riot about Hroth and Viera not being able to wear even glasses, imagine unironically thinking they'd be happy about getting body parts removed. No, there's no way they wouldn't have seen this coming unless they thought there's not enough people to be worth the attention. Just copy pasting the same hairstyles Viera got instead of choosing a handful that would actually fit Hrothgars was bad enough, it left it obvious both races are still treated as a "2x1" deal, but chopping off their ears for said hairstyles to even fit? bruh
2. To give credit where credit's due, at least Hroths can now switch between hairstyles that share the same face, so that's an improvement, and the part we'd be expected to be 'thankful' for.
I mean, they've been amputating miqo'te body parts since heavensward, viera's ears since shadowbringers, and now Au Ra/miqo'te/hrothgar tails with the moonward capes...
Not to even mention the abomination that is reaper's avatar form...
They clearly think S*** like this is ok:

Why wouldn't they assume the same of this:

I still haven't seen a Hrothgar with those "new" hairstyle. I checked the online store to see if male Vieras would suffer the no ears with Snow beanie but nope they clipped through. It's baffling how the lion bros didn't get the same treatment YET miqo'tes have their ears clipped.
I'm curious are some of you fine with these hairstyles if they had ears or would you simply want more custom race specific styles? I have a male Hroth sitting in Greatwood I just never have time to get around to leveling him although honestly at this point he is a place holder for a female Hroth which I hope will be some thing I'd really want to play.
I mean, both kinda... If we look at the other races, especially the other race released for an expansion (au ra), they all have a nice selection of hair tailored to their race, either exclusively, or hand selected to fit with their style from the existing races (Think this hair, and this hair). If they managed to make the existing hairstyles accessible to all faces, I'd say they'd be in a good place, but right now, one face having two racially defining hairstyles with one small variation each, is not enough.
And on the other hand, shared hairstyles should still continue to be a thing, I wouldn't use these hairstyles, but somebody might and that's alright! But they SHOULDN'T AMPUTATE BODYPARTS! Not only that, they need to look like they're growing out of the damn head they're on! But these things are just sitting there, cropping the ears and floating above where the skull would be, despite showing a part in the hair. That's not how hair works, that's not how scalps work, and that's definitely not how cartilage works, this is just bad artistry through and through.
I just want SE to treat the race seriously and not try to brute force old/unfitting creation techniques on a clearly new/different structure.
Also, and I think more importantly, to treat Hroth and Viera as separate entities. Regardless of anyone liking those hairstyles or not, Hrothgar should've gotten their own handful of hairstyles, not just a copy paste/leftover of Viera to cut corners. Heck, bald would've been a legit option to get, since Lalas and Roes can be bald, why not Hroths?
Delete all races except for Highlander, problem solved.
if you asked this a while ago i would've said that it was a combination of them underestimating how many people would actually be bothered by this and overestimating how much effort it would've taken
it now appears to me that square is just... bad with money? honestly from the absolute, off the wall, utterly bonkers nonsense the square president spews abouts nfts while selling the company's own kidney(s) for pocket change to fund said NFTs leads me to believe their financial situation is probably (and I am wildly understating) not the greatest and they're cutting corners where they can to stay afloat.
we all kept talking about how much cash square brings in but if they're spending all that AND more then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ especially now with the whole, y'know, market crash/recession.
We won't be that upset as we are now, but still would never wear them. The problem is more that they think this is an ok choise, meaning even if they add good hairstyles, they planned to just chop off the ears and do a halfass job. The outrage is about ''we waited patiently for around 3 years to you don't even put an effort, announce weeks prior, build excitement, (I literaly woke up early to watch the letter of producer becuase of the hair reveal) for THIS''.
delete all races and customizations, let everyone play the default derplander
I believe Yoshi-P noted the issue in the day that he read the 6.1 Patch Note, but I do wonder, will he actually fix the problem?
