Warhammer had Warpriest a Main Healer that used HUGE HAMMERS to deal MASSIVE Damage and fuel their ability to MAIN HEAL.
Please stop trying to pidgeonhole roles.
That warhammer and this is Final fantasy it make no sense.
@Vesperia is the point that make no sense to Final fantasy that the only issue i have and it's like saying a monk using a Samurai Wep o.o how does that make sense.
and do you know how much work SE have to do to allow each wep for each job?
WAIT FOR THE DAM UPDATE!!!! THEN WE SEE WHO RIGHT.
You said its a MMO you have to limit options. Well Warhammer just broke your theory by saying "Hey guys our healer can melee too Awesome" Warpriest was litterally the best thing in Warhammer and the only reason I played it for so long.
Monks were trained in various weapons some the same weapons as Samurai.
And not as much work as figuring out what singluar weaponclass would best reflect the job being implemented and not upsetting the playerbase.
Oh Thief can not use Daggers? people will be pissed. Red Mage can't use swords? People Pissed. Its easier to give people all the options and let them filter out what then want themselves then try and filter it for them and upset more people then you please.

That does nothing to assuage the fact that your argument is fundamentally flawed. The only reasoning behind your whole argument is that you don't want anything that isn't FFXI-esque. Well newsflash Mister, FFXI is dead and good riddance to it. I dance on its grave and laughed at its eulogy.
This is FFXIV, a game that is trying to make progress (and money!). It doesn't need to be hampered by FFXI enthusiasts and their nostalgia which would seek to impede any chance of success for the game by relying so heavily on tradition for tradition's sake.
There's a reason we don't keep slaves anymore. It's antiquated and just plain wrong. The same could be said for the majority of FFXI features, incuding class structure.
I'm all for having more weapon variety where it makes sense.
Having every class able to equip every weapon (or most weapons) is a bit of a step back from class uniqueness. For Paladins things like Sword/Shield, Greatsword and even Mace/Shield makes perfect sense however things like Guns, Bows or Wands would make little sense. Those weapons don't lend themselves to Paladins really. Same deal goes for something like Monk. Fists and Staff? Sure. Greatswords and Lances? Not so much.
I would love to see classes and jobs have access to a greater variety of weapons but it has to lend itself to that class or job.
Vesperia, did you just equate slave owning to class structure in a video game? >.> I get the argument but it's a bit of a stretch in a lot of ways. Yes it's wrong but the two situations you mention are on completely different levels of severity.
Classes already have access to multiple weapons.
Gladiator: Dagger, Sword
Conjurer: Wand, Cane
Thaumaturge: Staff, Scepter
Even with Musketeer you can see Pistols and Rifles laying about.
Who's to say they shouldn't be allowed access to more weapons?

OK. So lets go with your number, and use your examples to get us started. Each Class will get 2 Job specializations which are totally separate from the rest (I assume you mean unique).
Marauder:
- Dark Knight
- Warrior/Fighter
Gladiator:
- Paladin
- Berserker
Pugilist:
- Monk
- Thief
Lancer:
- Dragoon
- ??
Archer:
- Ranger
- ??
Conjurer:
- White Mage
- Black Mage
Thaumaturge:
- Red Mage
- Scholar or Summoner or Blue Mage
Better, but because you made the Job specializations unique, the Archer and Lancer classes are each missing one. And I honestly can't think of another "unique" Lance using Job other than Dragoon ... or another "unique" Bow using Job other than Ranger. Maybe you can though. If so fill in the blanks.
Even if you were able to fill in those two blanks, we still have two issues.
One is that any new Job will require either a new Class to support it, or rebalancing and reassignment of the existing Jobs.
The other issue is that we have non-intuitive, non-traditional weapon assignments. Red Mages can only use Staves/Scepters, even though they have always been able to use sword since the first Final Fantasy and in every Final Fantasy game since. And Thieves can only use hand-to-hand, even though they have always been able to at least use Daggers or small Swords in every Final Fantasy game also.
See. It's not so "fairly easy to do".
