Admittedly, I'm still relatively new to this franchise, and I only really care about this because I latched on to Fran like a leech when I played FF12. No idea why either. That being said, I've read all about the fiasco with the Miqo'te and other gender-locked races, so that was the first thing that got me thinking that maybe they'd do males. Also the concept art.
Regarding the Dramaturge, he only says that because the male Viera living in the forest are hidden. He also said that in the past it was unheard of for Viera to leave their village. That leads me to believe that with this new timeline/universe/future/etc. more of them have taken to leaving their homes for whatever reason. (I'm still catching up with the story, but I remember reading something about the Garleans invading their land?) So I don't think it's too farfetched to hypothesize that some male Viera would also leave the forest. Also, like others have said, the Viera were also compared to Keepers. So until stated otherwise by the devs, I see no reason to believe that we won't get playable male Viera.
TL;DR: I didn't take what the guy said that way. Until there's actual confirmation to the contrary, I'll keep holding out hope for bunbun boys.
