Well blm is in a bad place right now, I don't see how a no cast rotation on blm is even viable. Blm needs a rework but I'm worried they'll just make it worse if they change it.
Well they do seem extremely determined to make this version of blm try to work so we do know that it's getting buffed again. Honestly though, that should speak that this current version isn't really working since they've had to buff it in every single patch so far when it came to those that affect classes.
The only engaging content is doing DDs solo, only thing that needs some sort of brain and actual skill. Everything else is memorization/pressing the buttons in the order the devs want you to. It's like that stupid level in some old Mega Man where you need to drop down the level while instakill bars come shooting out left and right, so you gotta remember where to drop down, die, remember the next screen, so on. What's engaging about that? Good thing the guy is out, he's about as talented as Ghostcrawler was.
BLM is a weird one. It's very bizarre that the developers go out of their way to prune unexpected optimization depth and the skill ceiling even when 99% of players don't even engage with it. The same thing happened with TK monk in SB. It's almost as if someone on the balance team got personally insulted that someone found a way to get a 1% DPS boost that they didn't anticipate (and does not matter for balance since most people aren't using transpose lines in prog other than maybe F3P).
I'd say even a light party or something in between is also interesting for optional floors. You can't just wing it, but it's definitely not as hardcore than going in solo. I like that you can adjust the difficulty by going solo, duo, trio or LP. I like that the latter floors will challenge even a LP if they're not careful, and this imo is pretty good midcore content and I wish we had more of it. Orthos though, is also showing how their design choices have been slowly creeping in even in DDs, because let's be honest here, it's all about DDR and oneshots, especially bosses. Those have no place in DDs.
I feel this. I've been trying to do Orthos with a group of friends as a 4 person party. Our latest wipe was floor 96, caused by a sequence of events we could barely have done much to prevent. EO has a lot of incredibly frustrating mechanics. I hope, whenever the new DD comes out, it isn't like that.
I'm currently taking an FC friend who has never tried DDs through PotD and HoH. Combat usually irritates her, but she's having an absolute blast, largely because the fight design is different to other content.
It would be a great pity if future DD design drifts further into the FF14 combat formula.
