No it would not, if you release the game as it is right now, a year ago, it would still fail, it would change nothing.
Here's the purpose:
If, say only 10,000 people pay $12.99 / month, SE gets $129,900 / month.
If, say 30,000 people would pay $6.50 / month, SE would get $195,000 / month. Yeah that's right. Lower subscription, but still more money. And hey, there's more players too. That ought to help spread the word, wouldn't you think?
These are just theoretical numbers, but it demonstrates how a lower price could bring in even more money. That's the whole point. The whole point of this entire thread.
It's not about thumbs-up, thumbs-down. I don't know why in world you keep bringing it back to that over and over. It's about making the most money possible by considering a discount. This is the purpose.
Uh actually I've read every single article out there. I think it's pretty obvious what I was implying, that the game is not in a polished state at all. I like the game and want to continue playing, but it is absolutely NOT worth 12 bucks a month when compared to a POLISHED game. Sorry you had to get so hung up on a simple word, I was hoping people were smart enough to understand implied meaning but clearly I was wrong. But hey, way to make baseless assumptions. I should have figured as much from some of the brainiacs on this forum...
And if you'd like me to point out WHY the game isn't in a polished state, here goes:
The UI is still somewhat laggy. Commands are not always instant, it is not customizable in the slightest, I can only have 1 action bar visible, and playing on a keyboard with the UI is insanely cumbersome.
There is INSANE lag in Uldah if you try to change gear or want to talk to an NPC. It takes them almost a full minute to load for me sometimes (I'm running an I-7 OC'd comp, 8gb RAM, 2gb ATI 5870 graphics card... my comp isn't the issue).
There is also still lag when swapping stuff to a retainer or buying/selling.
The graphics are clearly not optimized. There is still screen tearing during movement, and the game still bogs down occasionally at 30 or 60 fps.
The job system still has YET to be implemented.
Occasionally starting a leve will just crash the game. Has happened to me 3-4x recently, and others I know as well.
There are a TOTAL of 3 dungeons and 2 endgame activities... after a year. Compare to any other game on the market.
There is no functional party search feature, and no good LS utilities.
The targeting, while improved, is still insanely annoying at times and VERY hard to work with on a PC.
The sidequests, while nice, are still far too few and all of them are basically kill X amount of Y or fetch quests.
Really, I could keep going but I won't. Even with ALL THESE PROBLEMS, I still enjoy the game. However, I'm not naive enough to think this game is worth a full price monthly fee. I would certainly pay half price for it, as that is where I see the game... about halfway there. I don't expect a free ride and I'm glad SE is starting to charge... but charging full price is something I'm not willing to do, and I think a lot of other people won't be either.
There's your reasoning. Yes I know some of this will be fixed in 1.20, but most of it will not.
Using your "AFTER A YEAR" argument is invalid when you're asked if you'd pay for the game in its current state if it'd been released as it is now. If that were the case, you'd not KNOW there will be jobs, you'd NOT be 50 in a day to get to do the total of TWO endgame activities. You'd have to wait. And, this, good sir, is the point. They're RELEASING the game now, in a way. If new players come in after 1.20, they'll have plenty to do and keep them busy until 1.21, when we do get jobs. And so on and so on.
I'm not trying to convince anyone, but this is just... infuriating... reading people QQ about things that have been addressed so many times.
Don't want to pay? Nobody's holding a gun to your head! Go ahead and leave!
I'm gladly paying. I've taken my time with this game and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I don't look at this as an investment, I don't bust out business models to decide. I ask myself: Am I having fun? The answer is simple: Yep.
Case closed.
PS: Your argument needs more cowbell.

I can personally confirm this bug. For every set of 3 leves at any camp, I "expect" at least one of the them to crash either: at the beginning or almost at the end (just before killing the last enemy); funny thing, it never crash in the middle of the leve, and which one will crash?, it's random: could be the first, second or third; but there is always a 50% chance one of them will crash my game (and of course, forfeit the leve).
And yes, there are many others players that suffered the same bug.
And who is holding the gun to your head making you stay in here arguing with people like a pre-pubescent teen in an angst-filled fit?
Seriously, instead of touting on your high horse in a thread where people want to express their discontent, why don't you leave the thread and leave everyone else to their vices? The ToS does not state you have to sit on the forums and argue with people you disagree with.
Edit:
My cowbell is greater than your cowbell.
