way to assume that I don't know what he's specifically talking about...

Yes, a huge achievement compared to someone who can't afford those stuff  even more if it's HQ/NM made.
And for the record, try Anarchy Online, try twinking high quality gear on low level characters. It's mind blowing mathematical challenge compare to grind to meet "level requirement" (which you can do but you are a total noob if you do that in the game).
You're defending the current implementation of equipping gear by comparing it to a game I played for over 5 years... I'm not even going to get into talking about AO and implants to equip implants because it has no bearing or relevance on this discussion at all.
i don't see what's wrong with being able to equip anything anywhere anytime. It's not like you get the items for free...
Because it offers freedom? Because it doesn't lock level restriction? Because you actually quoted me saying level restriction is lazy when I use it as an example how you get the sense of achievement in equipping something? Because old FF never has level restriction up until 11? Or maybe because you can't afford r50 NM stuff to wear on your level 1 that you want nobody else to do that?
The system didn't exist for the sake of being different, they were trying something new that made sense and had a shot. The Optimal Rank system makes sense logically. Anyone can wear anything, there's no logical reason they shouldn't be able to at least put it on. The stat and gear damage penalties were supposed to deter people from wearing gear that's way too high for them.
The system would work very well if they just increased the penalties for wearing gear before you're at or above the optimal rank for it. If they did that and also displayed the penalties clearly, they system would be perfect. You wouldn't need rank required gear.
R1 wearing R50 gear? Just laugh and get on with your life knowing that they don't even know they're not getting any bonus from the gear and will likely die very quickly.
The Optimal Rank and Favor are important part of the armory system as a whole. Those who claim these points should be removed obviously don't understand the armory system at all.
But no worries...the dev team doesn't too...that's why they will remove optimal rank and favor system, they will restrict your actions so you can only equip actions up to the half of your class rank and will add nomad moogles at camps so player can go change class there.
"...because when a bird was born in a cage even if you leave the cage open it will be too afraid to face the new to leave. It just prefer to stick with what is already known instead of trying something new...even if the new things turn out to be awesome!"
So embrace the FFXI! And be ready to see this game fail once again at PS3 release because the specialized midia has a damn good memory and a funny sense of humor. I can already see they all just saying that instead of fixing the FFXIV they decided cloning FFXI...and will be funny see the population having a spike at release and, as the players start noticing they are playing FFXI they will just start leaving...again. Because if they were meant to play FFXI they would be playing FFXI...why start over a game if you already have like 10 years of achievement at original one?
One could look at it that way, though there was never any intent of class requirements. The beauty of it and the armoury system is that a lot of the gear favored (not required) a range of classes, meaning you could carry gear for multiple classes around without having a 100% different set for each class within the same level ranges. In addition to all that the optimal system isn't restrictive, rank/class requirements are.
