Dragoons: A Rotation Reborn

Well, depending on what the buff is for us.. we could be getting a lot more of a DPS increase.

One thing all DRGs can agree on, something needs to be changed.

@ Yan: Was watching you do T13 the other day, the one where your dead body was jumping up and down due to lag.

Scrub question. What exactly happened to Dragoons that has caused this... "hate" towards us? Have other classes just been buffed to a point where the Dragoon is severely underpowered?

Wouldn't call it hate, just things became more apparent with the introduction of Ninja (and the amount of magical attacks in FCOB).

Basically when comparing a monk or ninja of equal skill and gear our dps is lower and disembowel's bard buff isn't enough to compensate it. We have the best single target burst but on the long final coil fights our sustained damage isn't enough.

And almost every form of AoE damage in Coil is magic which shreks us because of how unbalanced our mdef is.

All that being said our damage is still passable and usable in FCoB (there was a kill video of t13 posted in another thread that used 3drgs for shits and giggles), but more groups are likely to shun DRGs based off of the hate that the general public has. Whether these people are doing final coil or not.

It's the exact same problems as before, except it's more pronounced due to ninja+final coil and people finally realized it.

Dragoons were simply worse monks ever since like second coil but people kept arguing about burst or some shit. We do less damage+ 1 bard disembowel buff and take more magic damage. Dragonkick+mantra is also useful while we got nothing. We have always been underpowered.

It wasn't so bad for me in second coil progression cause the aoe magical damages weren't really that high and while I took more damage, I survived the same with everyone else.

The magic defense issue is more prominent in final coil cause everything does a shit load of damage. I needed vit melded accessories to progress because I couldn't survive things. T13 is extremely bad at this. There's massive magic damage all the time in terms of megaflare, rage of bahamut, gigaflare, tempest wing, ark morn etc. Dragonkick makes a huge difference and megaflare can hit me for like 7k and it happens like 20 times throughout the fight. This means that I need 3 vit accessories in full i110 gear to ensure I can live in t13. Everyone else will also take more damage from things and it makes it harder on healers due to lack of dragonkick.

Ninjas also made it worse cause they really do everything dragoons do but better. More damage and 10% raid dps increase for 10 seconds every 60 seconds, less tp usage, tp regen on single target, and they don't have awful magic defense. The old useful dragoon group of drg+brd+brd+1 caster is simply worse than drg+brd+ninja+1. Drg+brd+ninja+1 caster is also a lot worse than monk+ninja+brd+1 caster as theres only gonna be one brd and you want dragonkick and mantra. This means we're kinda the worse option to bring to coil.

Yeah, I was just looking at that Tri-Attack skill Rouges/NINs have. What were Square Enix thinking when they gave them that ability? Also, is Kiss of the Viper a permanent 20% damage increase toggled ability? Looking at XIVDB, it doesn't have a duration and instead, "effect ends upon reuse"...

No wonder half the game are ninja's now.

Just to put that in context, the first five clears of T13 had a total of 9(?) MNK, 1 NIN, and 0 DRG. I don't think there was ever any question that DRG would *eventually* clear it, but no one seemed to want them for cutting edge progression. Give them a few pieces of i130 and T13 becomes survivable, but other jobs were surviving with i110.

Yeah we've already semi-passed the point where DRG's MDEF is a clear stopper (if not still an annoyance) as well as the lower DPS compared to NIN. It's still a blow-out in NIN's favor, regardless of current iLVLs, for the reasons Ricky mentioned. One thing that irks me is you can play Foe's more often with a NIN in your party, a pretty decent DPS upgrade for the party ... just more damage on top of more damage.

I don't know that other jobs survive at i110 proper; it still takes VIT shenanigans. But DRG requires the most VIT shenanigans of them all.
