I absolutely love our female feline Naruto friend. All because of one line she said regarding bandits, and what lead them to be that way. Wuk is a good character, and the idea of not being the super famous celebrity-hero in the spotlight all the time is very nice change of pace. I'm sick of being the errand boy of light, im sick of running election campaigns in every zone and buying votes from the locals by doing all their work for them to fix their life BEFORE THEYLL GIVE ME ACCESS TO A THING THATLL SAVE THE WORLD (like hello poopy head if you dont give me access you and your family and the planet will all die, but sure lemme fix your freaking farm first, repeat x6 zones).
my only criticisms for dawntrail are how the first half blended into the second half of the story. Maybe blended isn't the right word, more like.... abruptly crashed into and flipped it on its head, it was a near instant plot twist , and the whole wilds theme was very cringe. as for the rest of it, its pretty good (considering its ffxiv and the way they do things).

I'm on Solution 9 and the Rite of Success is over, man this is so trash. All the scions are lobotomized and don't any interaction at all, Krile should be one of the MC since the whole mistery behind her grandpa is what took us to Tuliyollal in the first place, the MSQ's story is so amateurish, why the WoL isn't allowed to "help" Lamat in the challenges, why we just to sit there have a cutscene that "fades to black" and done Lamat did everything, the whole story for the Rite of Succesion doesn't make sense at all, it was done under the idea of forging the new Dawnservant which that means that Zoraal, Koana and Woke Lmao need to "solve" problems like: Zoraal cannot use his strenght because a leader knows that not every problem can't be solve by force, same thing with Koana he couldn't smart everybody and needs to do something different. None of this happens.
We only learn through these "challenges" is that Lamat doesn't know how to barter, and she's afraid of Alpacas. She doesn't know the traditions of her people (hanu hanu) since she only "knows" that the hanus do "festivals" and nothing more, but then you have this strange exchange with Koana in which he tells her that "she needs to embrace progress" and i was expecting something like "I know you went overseas to study with the Sharlayans, but we cannot forget our traditions and become something that we are not" But no! She just goes "oki bro :3" meanwhile Alphinaud and Alisaie are just standing over there without interaction. The WoL is suppoused to be the "mentor" of Woke Lmao but we don't have options or anything to say to her and the only one was on the palace when you ask her "why do you want the throne" and she just goes "Peace is the absense of war, I want to protect happiness" Cool story bro, people die when they're killed, honestly it's so baffling how everything is so uninsteresting and bland. Honestly CBUIII tackling both XVI and this xpac was a big mistake. While the areas are pretty and the graphical overhaul is ok, the main thing that FFXIV is its story.
Btw all this time the story has been telling us about this village that doesn't acknowledge Tuliyollal's rules but in reality is just one "priest" and some zealots but what i love the most is that Bakool's redemption starts when his dad makes him cry because he's a failure, and then the sob story about the sacrifice that people's do to create a "bleesed being" and the another 180° going from to kill Woke Doormat to "you're the only one who can stop it". Going from "I would destroy your weaklings, don't deserve to live" to "I don't want to follow this path of conflict, i want peace and justice for my people" What a fucking joke and people have been telling me about "THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT" meanwhile Erenville is just there, and when there's something interesting about his past... Lol no. Let's kill Ketenranm. If Yoshi-p believes that this shaky foundation is going to hold the next 10 years, then GG the trip was fun. -

The only thing Wuk Lamat and Naruto have in common is that they each want to be the leader of their village.
Their motivations for wanting to do so and the backstory of each character are completely different; and Naruto has far more depth than Wuk.
Wuk Lamat's motivation is to become Dawnservant to keep the peace of the country by preventing her brother from becoming Dawnservant.
Her backstory isn't super compelling . . . even though she's 'adopted' by the current Dawnservant she is clearly loved by him. She has siblings by proxy and friends as well. She's a skilled combatant and doesn't have any inherent flaws based on the way she is framed in the story. Short of being ignorant to the people and cultures outside the main city she doesn't really have much depth. Her life's pretty great.
Throughout the story her life continues to be great. She's never wrong or face consequences and becomes Dawnservant.
Let's compare that to Naruto.
His motivation behind wanting to be the leader of the village (Hokage) stems from his backstory. Mind you, all of the following is conveyed in the first episode of the anime (so less than 30 minutes of time . . . ).
A demon fox attacks the village of Konoha. It's leader, the 4th Hokage, sacrifices himself and seals the demon fox inside a new born baby. That baby is Naruto. The previous Hokage (the 3rd) becomes the leader of the village again and forbids anyone from telling Naruto that the demon resides in him. The adults abide by this but have distain for Naruto. They see him as the demon that ravaged the village and killed their loved ones. By proxy, the children see how the adults behave around him and keep their distance as well.
While it's not revealed why up front, Naruto is also an orphan. He lives alone (there' no orphanage). He quite literally has no one. He has no family. No friends. Nothing.
As a result, he acts out like a prankster to get any sort of attention (good or bad). He is a class clown and comes off as a dunce. When his school teacher, Iruka, catches him defaces the Hokage mountain monument he tells Naruto he will treat him to some ramen if he cleans it up. In doing so the two start to bond.
It's here we learn that Naruto wants to become Hokage so all the people in the village will look up to him and respect him.
This makes total sense, Naruto has no one in his life. He wants recognition and even if he doesn't realize it . . . he wants people to love him.
Naruto fails a lot. He fails in the very first part of the story (the first episode even) to graduate to become an entry level Ninja (Genin) because he can't make a clone of himself. He's not naturally talented but you see in flashbacks its not from a lack of trying. He does train, he does read up on how to be cast ninjitsu, but he still fails.
After failing, another teach of (Mizuki), who is not good, uses Naruto to try and steal a sacred scroll which contains ninjitsu that is forbidden to use. He tells Naruto if he can learn a move from it he will graduate; all the while his intentions are to kill Naruto and steal the scroll for himself.
Naruto, seeing this as a way to fix his past failing, steals the scroll and ends up learning his signature technique from it, Kage Bunshin no Jutsu (shadow clone technique). Iruka finds him but then a fight between him and Mizuki ensues as Mizuki needs to get the scroll. Mizuki says how Naruto is the demon fox and thats why everyone hates him, it's also why Iruka deep down hates him because the demon fox killed his (Iruka's) parents.
Naruto runs away with the scroll. In pursuit the two teachers clash again. Naruto is hiding at a distance but he can hear them. When Iruka confirms to Mizuki he hates the demon fox. Naruto hears this and his face sinks into the scroll. He thinks to himself that Iruka is just like everyone else. Then Iruka proclaims that, however, he doesn't hate Naruto because Naruto is NOT the demon fox. He's a precious student which he cares for.
Tears stream down Naruto's face. For the first time in his life, someone says they care about him. He finally gets what he wanted for so long . . . someone to recognize his existence and care for him.
Iruka is about to be killed by Mizuki when Naruto jumps in and saves him. He says he will kill Mizuki for trying to hurt Iruka, and in that moment he does his first Kage Bunshin no Jutsu. An astonishingly absurd amount of clones are made and he beats Mizuki.
Iruka calls Naruto over and tells him to close his eyes. He opens them and sees he gave him his forehead protector, and tells him he has passed as is now a Genin. Naruto cries and the two hug.
We learn so much within the first 30 minutes of Naruto. About his character and about his motivations. In protecting Iruka we see Naruto gains strength from the desire to protect those important to him and he can do amazing things when this happen (a theme true to the early part of the series).
So yeah I would't say they are a like at all.
(Side note: I ended up writing so much for literally the first episode of the Naruto anime to describe what makes Naruto as a character different from Wuk. I don't think anyone could write as much to describe Wuk Lamat after the entire multi hour long MSQ...) -

I haven't finished the expansion yet. My experience so far has been Wuk Lamat. Spoilerish below.
This creature wearing lion skin takes away from every moment we're intended to feel something, Erenville... Krile, have both been done dirty. What little we get for them is sucked dry by this hairy creature's constant droning, drooling and attention-seeking behavior versus anything that is not centered around herself. Somehow the story makes everything about the main character, Wuk Lamat. Even if she really, really should not be focused on in the final zone. The spotlight just kind of dims on anyone who isn't her. I don't know how else to describe it. Why am I even here? Why did we even need to include the WoL in Tural? There was no fun filled adventure, no vacation. We've just been stuck with the Main Character and are being once again forced to save teh wourld, except I doubt it will be us. Seeing as how they've been forcing the Main Character, Wuk Lamat, into just about every bit of dialogue there is, even when she isn't there. We were finally learning more about Krile in this dingy heated cave and oh man, there goes Wuk complaining about being bored over a silly series of questions. Well excuuuuuuuuse us princess, we were focused on someone else who wasn't YOU for once you insufferable hairy creature.
Good gods. Please don't tell me we're going to be stuck with her for the next expansion. I'm so sick of her. I do not want to share pixel space with the creature. Every time she speaks it irritates me. The voice acting choice of Wuk Lamat is odd and awful. I don't give a damn about being a side character. If someone is going to be the main character of an expansion, write them to be interesting, for the sake of all that is good, please - please write real flaws into characters, give them proper arcs. Who the hell was responsible for this? I'm experiencing brain rot.
I pre-ordered this rotten fruit of an expansion because I was genuinely excited for a fun vacation arc, low stakes, exploration of a beautiful land and the absolute pleasure of meeting many a new beautiful peoples. Instead I got Wuktrail the Wukkening. I'm so Wukked right now. It's Llamateable. -

Randomly expressing my frustration at hearing the scions call Wuk Lamat 'Llama Tea'. it is bad enough the scions we had with us have had no agency as characters, or that their personalities forgot to board the ship with their character models, or that they are all wedged between a rock and Wuk Lamat's open mouth breathing. Hearing Alisae call Wuk Lamat 'Llama Tea' after forming no relationship with the character, is truly like watching a live, visual retelling of someone's self insert OC fanfiction into FFXIV and settling herself into the centre of attention of the main cast.
The cherry on the top of all this, is it's a fanfic bad writer too. Wuk Lamat is an insufferable character, with no character development because she was perfect from the start and the characters around her were left to the side without development while someone prioritized and furiously brainstormed what the best possible affectionate name her beloved OC could have instead. -

So I just finished DT, and I'm kind of at a loss for words. I got early access too, and it took me this long to power through it. I had to go to these forums to see that I'm not crazy.
I'm torn between writing a huge essay about everything that made no sense or annoyed me, or just sitting in silence and whispering "wtf" over and over. I just can't believe what I just had to force myself through. I never skip cutscenes, and the last time I felt vaguely annoyed like this was during Stormblood. Even ARR was tolerable, and I played it before the purge. This was... something else. The whole thing was a slog. Was it ai generated?
I don't even know what to say. How is it even possible to got from ShB and even EW to... this??? Like I know every expac has its problems, but I usually power through it, ez, because the story makes up for it.
The part at the very end when Wuk inserts herself, yet again, even physically blocking WoL from sight when talking to Speeeen, that made me actually laugh out loud. And then it was followed by that Disney song. Perfect way to end it. The whole thing was absurd. Idk anymore.

Of all the characters in the game, there hasn't been one I really hated until now. I mean sure there were villains like Asahi, but I didn't "hate" them as a character.
Wuk Lamat on the other hand I can't even comprehend how this character was greenlit. I really can't wrap my head around that someone played through this in testing and was like "yup this is what people want".
This character is exactly Poochie from the Simpsons. "Whenever Poochies not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, 'where's poochie?'"
And it's not even the EN voice acting (which was still bad), just the character as a whole. Every word that comes out of her mouth just felt empty, especially during that last encounter vs Sphene.
I really really really hope she never appears again in the 7.xx patches. Wuk's story should have ended when she got the throne, then the second half should just be purely Krile and Erenville and we go off to Heritage Found without her.
I hope the 7.xx patches are us going to shards or whatever and we never need to talk to her again.
And I really hope the devs don't think "oh we can fix this character, lets give her some hardships in the 7.xx patches to build her character" or something. The water is already poisoned, all future events for the character I can only attribute to some cheap attempt the writers are using to try to save this character. I mean they already shoved in our faces how perfect and great she was the whole story, it didn't work, please let us just move on without her. -
