In some regions it is cheaper.

I bought game in Steam more than 5 years ago, when there were 0 warnings about it. Back in March of 2014 it was almost the start of Steam version existence (released in February 2014) and there also were not any expansions yet so no possibility to know that in 2015 we will find out that we are completely stuck to it. Honestly, when I bought the game, there was not much info even about the game itself, what to say about its versions.
Also, Steam Version had regional prices for subscription in few countries with bad economic (Russia and Brazil specifically had noticeable discounts that were appropriate to our monthly wages) until 2017 (were removed in summer 2017) which was a reason for some players as well.
EDIT: NVM, I see there is a change that is actually not ideal. It's also pretty stupid.
In fact, SE, I think you need to explain why this is even necessary? If they paid for the game, why does it matter what version of the client they're using? They still had to make SE accounts.
I know Square Enix won't reply to this thread, but could you please consider updating your Lodestone post to let us know if this is still happening?
If it is happening, can you tell us when/how it will work, and also will the update be coming via Steam? Will people therefore need to prepare for the massive downloads each time there is a launcher update?
It's hard not to speculate, but without any information it's all we can do. Right now Steam only has 2.1 on the download servers and as we all know the game updates outside of Steam. However any update pushed out through Steam will also "verify files" rolling us back to 2.1 (only to have to redownload newer updates via the launcher), so even if SE updates Steam with every major version, any launcher update via Steam will still have some rollback and redownloading.
Yeah, let me off of steam. Petition signed from me, just heard about this today and I'm actually a bit upset.
Either don't implement this or let me change from steam to PC keys.
As worldofneil is saying above, an update is needed from Square Enix.
For myself, I've been putting off buying Shadowbringers until I have some idea of what's going on with this.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation."
The doom is near, then. I really hope they solved all the problems with it.
Signed. I want to be able to get off of Steam without having to make a whole new account. I want to keep what is mine right now.
