Yes men have hair. Of course, this is a game catering to a ... different audience... we are more likely to get bizarre multicolored hairstyles or more armor that looks like school girl uniforms.
It's a cultural thing. It can be seen in anime, such as Sailor Moon, with battle flash scenes. The way it was explained to me is: If you don't see body hair it's not perverted. So as much as I would love to see males with some chest, arm, and leg hair, I don't think it will happen for this reason.
True but as I said in the OP, this game isn't solely for the Japanese. It's ported to many different countries, with their own cultures. Again for those not understanding as well... this would be optional for those wanting this option we're forced to have what is already there, there is no option for those wanting this...
I don't usually like a lot of body hair on characters, but it sure seems like it should be an option for Miqo'te (furry kitties) and male Roegadyn (testosterone laden brute aesthetic).
Add more beard options and you get a like :P
I'm signing for body and facial hair too.
we won't get this till the ps3 version is dead and buried.
Not sure if you're joking or not...
But changing a diffuse texture, adding in new Bump-Mapping + Specular Highlighting maps for this would require no more than a new piece of gear/hairstyle would.
It's simply another layered 3D Mesh ontop of the current mesh (and or new skin textures to avoid a 3D model overlay (such as beards/hair/tattoos))
It would also have to be an option on global in game scale client side. Even if the Japanese themselves don't use the body hair option, their servers are open to all subscribers (except maybe China bc they have their own thing going). An Un-named-nationality player can hairy themselves up and go running around the JP servers and disgust all the players on a level akin to seeing bikini clad babe in Sunday morning Mass. SO it can potentially affect the rating of the game in Japan.
It's not that.
It's the fact that in the media it's seen as inappropriate to reveal body-hair.
That's about the height of the argument against it, that's probably the reason.
Where-as we transpose our thoughts over to Guild Wars 2 made by Americans;

You didn't read a word I said, lol.
I can go into the finite technicalities if you REALLY WANT.
This addition would be absolutely no impact or difference on any of the hardware available for FFXIV.
It would either simply replace the current base skin texture with a hair version, OR add on another 3D mesh layer.
In a really simple term of explanation, it's essentially another layer of gear if they use the second option, nothing more, nothing less.
I support this as a potential option. IMMERSION!!!!
As well I'd like to mention body hair is naturally occurring for all mammals. So the people who think its disgusting are idiots and entitled to their opinions however dillusional they may be.
This game was developed in Japan.
The game is supported by Japanese people in Japan.
The Japanese community is the largest community so far.
The Japanese community, as a result of the last few points, gets a lot more than the rest of us.
So let's just pretend like a Japanese game that's supported by Japanese people in Japan with a large Japanese community now has to cater to the rest of the world in every facet.
On that note, why can't we have Hot Dogs and Burritos as food items?
Oh right...
EDIT: Oh right, it's bad manners to compare one bodily function to another bodily function. My mistake.
I never personally used the terms "they have no body hair." I know they do, obviously every person in the world no matter where they are from will have some different variations of their body structure, and no one form is better than the other. Mostly my statement is for those who try to say "It's a Japanese game, and they don't have body hair, and frown upon it in media." Maybe not worded the best way possible.
The souls series is made by a Japanese dev. Though I'm not sure just how popular it there, but they feature body hair.
Have we gotten a dev response yet on this matter? That's usually a good indicator of whether on not they may implement it in the future like the invisible glamour accessories, fantasia, etc that we've been requesting.
Unfortunately there is no Dev or Mod response yet to this matter. That's why I made the thread to see if it would get a response, if they say it's not manageable, won't be heart broken and I'll move on. But yes, that's the main goal in this thread, is to show there is support and ask the ultimate question, can it be done?
Thanks Shioban.
If there's one thing I've proven in the past, it's when they've said something like;
"Lol no, you're not getting metalic dyes, and we're not fixing it"
To get a complete turn after the communities outrage/feedback about it to;
"Actually, we'll add it now, along with some new dyes!
So, it's always nice to keep the thread going, (even if they say no).
Even if they were to implement it, hopefully itll look better than this. Another JMMORPG:

Didn't strike anything you obviously didn't read what I said making your post irrelevant. I made a comparison to the assumption everyone has the same ideals for one ethnicity or geographical region which clearly isn't true.
Ugh why does no one know how to read anymore >.>
The fact you don't understand a comparison is hilarious. You obviously failed English in public school stop trying to derail a thread because your upset I made a comparison showing how a country can hold multiple views and not just one.
I didn't show hatred or bias to any group if you could read you would have noticed I was using an easily identifiable section and showing how not everyone holds those same beliefs or ideas.
Nope. I actually understand what you're trying to say. But directly speaking of religious/ethnicity term and using it as comparison are not something I felt comfortable to read.
Oh my gosh a word oh nooo get over it.
Here's another one that may bother you...
VOLDEMORT!!!
